THE THREE PARTS OF A BRAIN

Forebrain-higher intellectual functions, such as speech and abstract thought. It controls the pain, hunger, thirst, blood pressure, body temp., and visceral functions. Contains the four lobes and all the cortices.

Midbrain-is the smallest region of the brain that acts as a sort of relay station for auditory and visual information

Hindbrain-Transmits signals between the spinal cord and the higher parts of the brain; it also controls autonomic functions such as heartbeat, respiration, balance and coordination.

THE FOUR LOBES

Occipital Lobe- is the visual processing center of the mammalian brain containing most of the anatomical region of the visual cortex.

Frontal Lobe- Emotional control and home of our personality, motor function, problem solving, spontaneity memory, language, judgement, impulse control , and social behaviors.

LOBES CONTINUED

Temporal lobe-is involved in primary auditory perception, such as hearing, and holds the primary auditory cortex.

Parietal lobe- It functions in processing sensory information regarding the location of parts of the body as well as interpreting tactile (touch) information and processing language and mathematics.

FIVE CORTICES OF THE BRAIN

Visual Cortex- in charge of processing visual information. Located in the occipital lobe.

Auditory Cortex-in charge of processing sound (hearing). Located in the temporal lobe.

Olfactory Cortex- in charge of processing smells. Located in the temporal lobe.

Somatosensory Cortex- in charge of your sense of touch (tactile). Located in the parietal lobe.

Motor Cortex- in charge of voluntary muscle movement. Located in the frontal lobe.
