This week, we will continue to review first and second grade concepts and skills, as well as jump right into reading, writing, math, social studies, science, and health. Also, students will be introduced to the centers that we will use during reading groups.

Your child should bring home their basic math facts assessments that they took last week. Math Games

Third graders coached the second grade students through a math game about addition.

Going GreenIn addition to our school collecting Box Tops for Education, our classroom will collect used ink cartridges. As a teacher, I can recycle used ink cartridges at Office Max and receive Max Perks Award certificates to purchase supplies for our classroom. Please just send your ink cartridges with your child and I will take them to Office Max to get credit. Thank you for your help!

Each Wednesday we will visit the library to return and check out a new book. Students may take their library books home, but they need to bring them back to school for our library day.

Got Email? If you have an email account please feel free to communicate with us through email. If not, don’t hesitate to call us during the school day. We are available for phone calls before and after school, as well as during our special classes.

Box Tops for Education

Please look for the above box top on any General Mill’s products. Our school receives 10 cents for each box top that we collect. Our classroom has a jar marked especially for Box Tops.

Lunch ProcedureAll students in my class will go outside for recess at 12 noon to play on the west playground. At the 12:20 pm bell they will line up and come inside to eat their lunch.

HomeworkYour child should come home with homework every evening, except for Friday. Their homework should reinforce previously learned skills and concepts in math and language arts. It should only take 10 to 15 minutes to complete for 2nd grade and 20 minutes for 3rd grade. We encourage you to look over your child’s homework before they turn it in the following day.

Homework will begin after the Labor Day holiday.
