A MESSAGE FOR YOU
Pg . 3
Mid-Lenten Journey
We are in the middle of our Lenten journey. We passed through the desert (Lent week 1)
and the mountain (week 2). Now we are at the Temple, a place of special encounter with
God. But today we are not going to see the glorious face of Jesus; we are going to see his
angry face. Jesus is not happy with what he sees precisely because the way the Temple
worship has been organized no longer reflects God’s original idea of a worshipping
community. Yet the porticos of the Temple were surrounded by trade and finance, and
indeed, more emphasis was being put on the buying and selling than the worship and
sacrifice itself.
Jesus cleared the Temple of the merchants and the moneychangers. The people, according
to John’s Gospel today, asked for a sign of Jesus' authority to do such an audacious act.
Jesus responded by predicting his death and Resurrection. This is the sign, par excellence,
His passion, death, and Resurrection.
As we continue on with our Lenten journey, we reflect upon the meaning of this sign for us
and for our world. We might take this opportunity to consider the quality of our prayer and
worship. In our prayers we seek to deepen our relationship with the person of Christ. In our
worship with the community, we gather to experience anew the passion, death, and
Resurrection of Jesus and its significance in our lives. Christ promises to be present with us
when we gather for prayer.
Lent is not just about fasting, however. Prayer, almsgiving and works of charity have
always been encouraged by the church. I remember two years ago, when I first got here,
we started preparing to create a new environment during Lent. I appealed for your prayers,
financial support, time and talent to support the project. Mindful of our focus to celebrate
new life with the risen Lord, we started our courtyard renovation on Easter Monday. We
put extra lights on the courtyard, electronic door opener on the north side of the church,
LED lights in the church, electric blinds for the East windows of the church, chairs for the
parish volunteer work room, new sound board and stations of the cross. Thank you very
much for your generous help.
A MESSAGE FOR YOU (CONTINUED)
Pg . 4
I would like to communicate with you our Harmony and Beauty (HB) Funds. We started with Zero (0) Balance on July 1, 2016, meaning the parish spent all the 2015 HB collection. We collected in year 2016-2017 a total amount of $83,486.06. And for the year 2017-2018, as of 2-11-2018, we collected a total amount of $52,982.19. We used the money for the following:
* For 2016-2017 (Collected) - $83,486.06 - Final payment on courtyard and Gazebo - $40,309.51 - Extra lighting for courtyard - $260.87 - Electronic door opener on the North side of the church - $2,182.00 - New LED lights in the church - $11,971.06 - Electric blinds for the East Windows of the Church - $5,615.00 Total Spent for 2016-2017 - ($60,338.44) Total remaining for 2016-2017 - $23,147.62
* For 2017-2018 (Collected) as of 2-11-2018 - $52,982.19 - Electrical for Church blinds - $350.00 - New Stations of the Cross - $8,900.00 - Chairs for the Parish Center Volunteer work room - $1,042.56 - New Sound Board for the Church - $7,531.83 Total Spent 2017-2018 as of 2-11-2018 - ($17,824.39) Total remaining for 2017-2018 as of 2-11-2018 - $35,157.80
We have the remaining balance of $58,305.42, which we plan to use for the following:
- The conversion of the alcove (between the two confessional areas) into the Divine Mercy Prayer Area - New lighting for the Stations of the Cross - New Chairs for the Parish Center Conference room - New Tables and chairs for the Presentation Hall - New chairs for the Parish offices
We might be spending $47,000 in total for the proposed Harmony and Beauty projects. That would leave us, at the moment, some $11,305.42 funds. Once again, thank you very much for your great generosity. God bless,
Fr. Rolyn

UN MENSAJE PARA USTED
Pg . 7
un lugar de encuentro especial con Dios. Pero hoy no vemos la cara gloriosa de Jesús;

P. Rolyn

Dear Lord, teach me to be generous,
teach me to serve you as you deserve,
to give and not to count the cost,
to fight and not to heed the wound,
to toil and not to seek for rest,
to labor and not to ask for a reward,
save that of knowing that I do Your will.

Oración para la generosidad
Señor Jesús,
enséñanos a ser generosos,
a servirte como Tú mereces,
a dar sin medida,
a combatir sin temor a las heridas,
a trabajar sin descanso,
sin esperar otra recompensa
que saber que hemos cumplido
Tu santa voluntad.

Ps 25 (24): 15-16 My eyes are always on the Lord, for he rescues my feet from the snare.
Turn to me and have mercy on me, for I am alone and poor.
Exodus 20:1-17 1 Corinthians 1:22-25 John 2:13-25
Composer: Traditional French melody adapted by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi Arr. Jarrod Townsend Lyricist: Edmund Vaughn, C.S.S.R.
God of Mercy and compassion, look with pity upon me. Father, let me call Thee Father, 'tis Thy child returns to Thee.
Jesus, Lord, I ask for mercy; let me not implore in vain; All my sins I now detest them, never will I sin again.
By my sins I have deserved death and endless misery; Hell, with all its pains and torments, and for all eternity.
By my sin I have abandoned right and claim to heav'n above; Where the saints rejoice forever, in a boundless sea of love.

Oh God, You are a mystery, We crowd the streets in hopes to see The Son of Man before our eyes, His holiness uncompromised. Oh God, we have a history, The saints who told of Calvary, And the martyrs who laid down their lives, For the cause of Christ were sacrificed.
Cantor: Let our faith be not alone ALL: Let our faith be not alone May our hearts be not of stone May our hearts be not of stone Give us souls that never close Give us souls that never close To the grace that You bestow To the grace that You bestow May our eyes be quick to see May our eyes be quick to see ALL: You are here, You've come to rescue me.
Oh God, You are a mystery, Redemption for the world to see The Son of Man before our eyes, His holiness uncompromised. Oh God, we have a history, The saints who told of Calvary. And the martyrs who laid down their lives, for the cause of Christ were sacrificed.
The Merchants Chased from the Temple— James Tissot
Lord Jesus Christ, I firmly believe that you are present in this Blessed Sacrament as true God and true Man, with your Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity. My Redeemer and my Judge,
I adore your Divine Majesty together with the angels and saints. I believe, O Lord; increase my faith.
Publishing information is on file in the parish office and available upon request.
Cf. Ps 84 (83): 4-5 The sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for her young: by your altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God.
Blessed are they who dwell in your house, for ever singing your praise.

One bread, one body, one Lord of all. One cup of blessing, which we bless.
And we, though many, throughout the earth, We are one body in this one Lord.
Gentile or Jew, servant or free, Woman or man no more.
Many the gifts, many the works, One in the Lord of all.
Grain for the fields, scattered and grown, Gathered to one, for all.

How lovely is Your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty
For my soul longs and even faints for You; For here my heart is satisfied
Within Your presence I sing beneath the shadow of Your wings
Better is one day in Your courts, Better is one day in Your house Better is one day in Your courts,
Than thousands elsewhere
One thing I ask and I would seek: To see Your beauty
To find You in the place Your glory dwells. One thing I ask and I would seek:
To see Your beauty To find You in the place Your glory dwells.
My heart and flesh cry out for You the Living God, Your Spirit’s water to my soul.
I’ve tasted and I’ve seen Come once again to me. I will draw near to You. I will draw near to You.
Tom Booth © 2014 Spirit and Song
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, Have mercy on me, have mercy on me.
Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, Have mercy on me, have mercy on me. Amen.
Jesus, I trust in you. Jesus, I trust in you. You are the Son of the Living God,
Jesus, I trust in you. Jesus, I trust in you.

Wealth can be an idol, built of gleaming gold, bringing dreams of paradise, futures bought and sold. Some will choose to gather it, all that they can hoard, but as for me and my House, we will serve the Lord.
Pleasure is a siren, promising the flesh, brief relief from emptiness, a hiding place from death. Some will choose to chase it, until it leaves them bored. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. We will serve the Lord, we will serve the Lord!
Power is a hunger, burning in the breast, to walk among the mighty and trample on the rest. Some will choose to gain it by lie or guile or sword, but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
Father of all mercy, giver of all life, here we speak our covenant above the noisy strife. Hear us shout in glory above the pagan horde, as for me, and my house, we will serve the Lord.
