Following the departure of Duncan Hendry earlier this year, Jane Spiers will take up the position of Chief Executive of Aberdeen Performing Arts on Monday 3 September. She joins us from Horsecross Arts, which operates Perth Concert Hall and Perth Theatre. Under her leadership the organisation raised over £10m and won 30 awards and commendations. We are delighted to welcome her to APA. “I’m very much looking forward to working with partners to continue to build the reputation of the city nationally and internationally, with Aberdeen Performing Arts at the heart of cultural and community life.” Jane Spiers Teachers meeting dates for the diary Our teachers meetings are an open forum to share information and input into our future work with schools. They are held at His Majesty’s Theatre with refreshments provided, all welcome! Check out the Creative Learning section for updates on our programme and workshops www.boxofficeaberdeen.com Young Start Fund We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded funds from the Young Start Fund to establish three after school youth theatres across Aberdeen and a new youth theatre called APA Create, for those aged 8-12 at His Majesty’s Theatre. Community Arts graduate Laura Cherry will be joining us in the post of Youth Theatre Development Worker to lead on this exciting project. International Theatre Exchange The Young People’s Theatre programme is delighted to have just completed a fantastic summer international exchange with other young performers from America and Germany. This was part of the 40th Aberdeen International Youth Festival. Inspired by stimulus provided by Scottish theatre company Visible Fictions, APA Senior Youth Theatre and dANCE wORxxx from Regensburg, Germany generated a brand new piece of theatre in only 8 days! This was performed as part of a double bill with the ACT Young Conservatory, who presented a staged reading of D.C Jackson’s new work Untitled Reality Project. The play was co-commissioned and developed by Aberdeen Performing Arts and American Conservatory Theater, San Francisco, California. Untitled Reality Project will be fully staged at The Lemon Tree in November by APA Young Persons Company with a free schools matinee! EXTRACURRICULARTHE CONE GATHERERSAPA’s third large-scale production has gone into rehearsals and is set to open at His Majesty’s Theatre onthe 15th September! The adaptation of Robin Jenkins’ haunting Scottish novel The Cone Gatherers isdirected by Kenny Ireland and adapted for the stage by Peter Arnott. Alongside this production we will be offering:Page to Stage – Wednesday 19th September Post Show Chat – Thursday 20th September Playwrights and drama workshops delivered in your school on request. Schools tickets £8.50 - Matinees and Tue, Wed, Thu evenings, plus one free teacher for every 10 pupils

THE STATICThickSkin are offering a limited number of free physical theatre workshops to supporttheir tour of Davey Anderson’s, The Static. Workshops will explore this innovativecompany’s approach to creating their production. Workshops are very active and suitedto pupils aged 14+. GREAT EXPECTATIONSPre-show talk with Lucinda Dickens Hawksley Thursday 8th Nov 12.30pm-1.30pmLucinda Hawksley, author & great great great granddaughter of Charles Dickens, willtalk about the man behind the novels. BLOOD BROTHERSWith sponsorship from Aberdeen Harbour Board we are able to offer school groups thereduced rate of £100 for a workshop with Sean Jones who plays Mickey in BloodBrothers. The practical drama workshop will explore the themes and issues within themulti award-winning musical. These can be delivered in school prior to your visit to seethe production at HMT. Contact us directly for more information. Schools tickets £8.50 - Wed 7.30pm and Thu 2pm - RS & UC only, plus one free teacher forevery 10 pupils

BALLETBOYZBalletBoyz workshops explore company repertoire, presenting groups with theopportunity to explore contact work and challenge their strength and balance.Workshops conclude with creative tasks so participants leave the workshop with theirown movement phrase and a greater sense of achievement.
