National 4-H Week is just around the corner. 4-H fami- lies are gearing up to cele- brate October 5-11. To find out what clubs in your area are doing to honor 4-H week, contact your local 4-H staff. Happy New 4-H Year The new 4-H year began on September 1. 4-H Clubs in your county are now enrolling mem- bers, and new clubs are forming. Now is a great time to join! Already a 4-H family? Then now is a great time to invite friends and family to get involved too. Hall of Fame Inductions The Illinois 4-H Foundation celebrated the 10th anniversary of the 4-H Hall of Fame program this summer. Sixty-six volunteers were inducted into the Hall of Fame in August, including three local volunteers. Recognition for Excellence Training As members finish up their award applications and final plans for Achievement Programs fall into place, now is a great time to think about the Recognition for Excellence program. Preserve the Harvest on Sept 24 will teach you the dehydration basics for fruits & vegetables, herbs and flowers. Get online and reserve your spot today. Public Land Works Day Beautiful weather is forecasted for National Public Lands Day on Friday, Sept 26. Volunteers are asked to come out and help at Carlyle Lake Chipmunk Trail. Work groups will meet at 8 a.m. at the picnic shelter on top of the hill in McNair camping area. You can help with trail maintenance, signage, invasive species control and general clean up. For more information contact Gail or Brenda. Margin Protection Program Workshop for Dairy Farmers MPP is a voluntary program which places and emphasis on protecting income over feed cost margins. MPP protects against severe downturns in the milk price, rising feed prices, or a combination of both. Learn more at “Are you ready for the MPP” on September 30. You can register online, or by calling your local Extension Office.

Family and Consumer Science staff had anoth-er busy summer doing demonstrations for shop-pers at several local Farmer’s Markets. These demonstrations provide shoppers with ideas on healthy ways to prepare local produce. There is a wide range of resources available online for Farmer’s Mar-ket producers and con-sumers.
