TrADITION ISkePT AlIVeIT’S safe to say that the Tarporley Carnival was a resounding success with over 2,000 people attending on the day. The parade looked amazing and particular congratulations go to the Tarporley Ce Primary School who scooped fi rst prize for their bugsy malone-type display. We’ve got six pages of pictures from the day itself for you to keep hold of.

Congratulations also to Dan edwards who won the british Superkart Grand Prix event at Cadwell Park which gives him a great chance of winning a national title.

In this month’s edition there’s also stories about a golfer who completed four rounds in a day for charity and a new horse named after Peckforton Castle as well as the normal popular features including parish council news, gardening, a recipe, what’s on guide and village index.

As usual, please support your local businesses and don’t forget to tell them that you saw their ad in The Talk

We hope you enjoy the magazinekind regardsThe Talkabout Team

Volunteers neededto keep tabs onspeeding drivers DRIVING over the speed limit is nothing new in Tarporley, and there are some roads where it is a particular problem – such as Rode Street, Utkinton Road, Nantwich Road, Forest Road and Eaton Road. The police and the PCSO regularly set speed traps and

people are caught and fi ned. In the autumn, the Parish Council are to borrow a SID – a Speed Indicator Device – which will light up and tell motorists exactly what speed they are doing. The Parish Council are looking for volunteers, to give

between a total of 2 -6 hours of their time to man one of these SIDs. If you are interested in helping, please contact Parish

Councillor Gill Clough [email protected] or tel 01829 733545. Please help us educate people to keep to the speed limits

in Tarporley.

TARVIN Tennis Club ladies tasted victory in a thrilling county final this summer. The neutral venue of Hooton Tennis Club

was the venue for the Cheshire Shield Veterans’ Plate Final in a thrilling and closely-fought encounter with Hale T.C.Both Tarvin couples (Carolyn Bunting and

Wendy Rae; Sue Jebson and Rosemary Gilbert) lost fairly convincingly to the very strong first pair of Hale, but both just managed - via tie-breaks - to beat their second pair opponents in nail-bitingly tight sets. So, under the rules, at 4 sets all a deciding

set had to be played, with the clubs creating a third pair by selecting one player from each of the original first and second pairs. Carolyn and Sue for Tarvin started well and steadily but Hale were looking nervous. At 3-1 to Tarvin, Hale threatened a come-back but in the end, after nearly four hours’ play, Tarvin triumphed against the favourites and last year’s winners by 6-2. The winning team: Sue Jebson, Rosemary Gilbert, Carolyn Bunting and Wendy Rae.

I was invited to visit Skin Deep in Tarporley recently to experience one of their extensive range of beauty

treatments. I chose the Fruit Sea Salt scrub and the detox wrap – a good choice as it turned out, writes Lynne Bradley. I was amazed to see how busy this beauty salon

was, with people constantly booking in for treat-ments. Skin Deep have a fantastic, loyal customer base, which has been built up over the last 18 years! The staff here go the extra mile for all their clients, they really seem to be good friends rather than customers. Steph explained that customer service and satisfaction is paramount in her salon, they even send out cards and gifts for their regular customers’ birthdays, offer gifts at Christmas and even visit clients in hospital! Now that’s real customer service. As one of one 78 Clarins gold salons in the UK,

Skin Deep have the full Clarins range. It is an added bonus that Steph previously worked for Clarins before she started the salon which gives her a vast knowledge of the products. Beauty therapist Jo asked whether I wanted to be

invigorated or relaxed - I opted for relaxation - the first product to be applied was a lovely exfoliating mix of coarse sea salt, with Lavender petals and a delightfully scented relaxing oil. This was gently

rubbed all over my body, removing dead skin cells. After a shower it was back onto the table for an intensive deep cleansing. A warm white clay mask of hydrating complex and relaxing oils, which felt wonderful because it was warm and smooth - heaven! When I was covered with the mask, I was gently wrapped in the special plastic and covered with towels and a special thermal blanket, where I was left to blissfully enjoy total relaxation for about 15 minutes. After rinsing off I was back on the bed to be pampered yet further with a relaxing body cream, to finish off and make my skin feel and smell absolutely wonderful. My skin felt amazing after the treat-ments. There was a healthy sheen, and it felt so soft and smelt beautiful.I’m hooked and would certainly recommend the

treatment to women of all ages.

In the bar they serve the same menu as in the restaurant. During the winter months there will be an open log fire and for those so inclined they also have SKY Sports in the back bar. They also have full calendar of events or-

Her expertise is called on to examine students for an international examination board in many areas of the world. Angela is also part of the HABIA forum, helping to make decisions for qualifi cations and standards in the UK beauty industry.

Q. I buy loads of expensive skin care products but never get the results that I expect. What can I do? A. Skin care products will only give the promised results when they are used on the type of skin that they have been formulated for. This is why an in-depth skin care consultation and analysis of your skin by a trained therapist is so important to ensure that you get the right products for your skin. Quite often people buy far too many products when just a few of the correct products will do a far better job, sometimes less is more! Also, you need to know how to use your products. Your therapist should give you expert instruction on the application and removal of your skin care products so that you are completely familiar with what you are supposed to do with them before you take them home. This also helps you to get the most value out of what you have bought. A fi nal word, don’t forget that some skin care products promise results that would never be achievable no matter how much you used them!

Q. I like to use a fake tan product instead of damaging my skin with the sun, but I am fi nding that I am getting a lot of blocked pores on my face. Is there anything I can do to improve this?A. At this time of year many of my clients like to use a fake tan product to give them a glowing, tanned appearance to take them into the Autumn months. However, blackheads and blocked pores can be a common side effect of using fake tan products, especially if you have oilier skin or visible pores. To improve the appearance of your skin try using of an exfoliating product, suitable for your skin type, on a regular basis and treat yourself once in a while to a deep cleansing facial treatment with your therapist. I often recommend substituting fake tan with a mineral based bronzing powder, bronzing dust or a tinted moisturiser for your face and keep the fake tan products for your body.

TARVIN Environment Group has not let the grass grow under its feet since its foundation in December last year

. In only a few short months members have made the most of an offer from Broomheath Plantation owner, Simon Harding, to use his young Orchard area as a community Allotment for Tarvin residents. This is the second project that Tarvin

Environment Group have undertaken, the fi rst being a Sustainability Survey with the help of fi nal year Students from the University of Chester. Considering the fact that no spade touched the ground until late April of this year, the allotment holders already have produce ready to eat from the Plantation. Simon has provided collected rainwater from his buildings at the allotment and we hope that the project will go from strength to strength over the next few years. Children who visit the plantation in the future will be able to learn about the fruit and vegetables being grown on the allotments. There is a wonderful atmosphere at the

plantation, and it has proved so far to be a really successful venture for everyone involved. The allotment looks beautiful right now. The Tarvin Environment Group was formed

by a group of local volunteers interested in tackling environmental & climate change issues at a local level by supporting and exploring projects which help to increase the sustainability of our community, reduce our carbon footprint, reduce energy consumption and improve our local environment. The group believe that taking action

and sharing information within the local community is an effective way of tackling environmental issues, reducing our carbon footprint and enhancing the community in which we all live, so we can let future generations know that we have done our best to develop a sustainable world for them to live in.

If you live in the Parish of Tarvin, do come along to one of our meetings where we discuss the allotments as well as other ecological projects such as Cycling initiatives, Renewable energy projects and the Home Thermal Imaging project that we plan to do this winter. A number of our volunteers have been

trained in the use of a Thermal Imaging camera which we will be hiring in November. This helps households to identify the main areas of heat loss from the home and thereby prioritise energy (and money) saving home projects. Please take a look at our web site for more

information. If you do not have access to the internet, we can be contacted by post at Abbeyfi eld, Tarvin, CH3 8EQ. please provide your own telephone contact details.A Tarvin Environment Group Poster is

pinned upon the village notice board with details of our meetings and ActivitiesThe next meeting is on 9th September at

THE sun agreed to shine on the rejuvenated Darnhall Village Hall last month when a large number of Darnhallians, supporters, and well-wishers packed into the Hall for the Grand Opening. Guests of honour included

James Verdin, the Mayor of Winsford, Councillor Nick Harris and his wife Myra, Sir John & Lady Pauline Barlow, and councillors from Cheshire West and Chester.Chairman of the Darnhall

Parish Council, Laurence Jinks, outlined the history of the village, and the place of the Hall in the centre of the community for over a century. He introduced the guests of honour, and thanked everyone who had supported the renovation of the Hall over the last few years. He handed over to Robin

Wood who had driven the project through, obtaining grants from Vale

Royal Borough Council and WREN, whose representatives were in attendance. Mr Wood stated that what had at fi rst seemed to be a small one year and £25,000 job turned into a four year and £125,000 project. The new toilets, kitchen and porch had brought the Hall into the 21st Century, along with central heating, insulation and, of course, double glazing. He thanked the generosity and fi ne work of the builder, Mike Blythe, and appealed to everyone to use their Hall as much as possible.Laurence Jinks then

introduced James Verdin, the owner of the Darnhall Estate, who had given the Hall to the Parish Council for a peppercorn rent, and who had spent a large

sum on it before handing it over. Mr Verdin spoke about his family’s long association with Darnhall, and how pleased he was with the renovated Hall and the work that had been done. He then unveiled the commemorative plaque to loud applause and a 21 gun salute by the two local gun clubs of Calveley and the Raven. The opening was followed

by a barbecue and raffl e to raise money for the Darnhall Village Hall fund for the ongoing work that still has to be done.

TARPORLEY Vic’s First Team returned to action on 15th August with the main aim for the season being a top two fi nish, and promotion from the Cheshire Building Society Cheshire League Division Two. Our commitment has always been to continue

the Club’s development and to enable this Division 1 football has to be our aim. The squad has the experience required, and Steve Lloyd has only bought in one new player into the squad, namely Jonny Winter from Tarvin. Steve has used the pre-season to view

some of the promising Reserve players that performed so well last year. Of these Shaun Packham, Sam Lloyd & goal keeper Chris Jones will be utilised in the usual hectic start to the season.Tarporley Vics Reserves’ campaign doe not

start until the start of September; however Andy Williams’s squad is working well in their pre-season training. The team changes every year with a group of last season’s squad going off to University and Gap-year breaks. This allows new players to make the move into adult football. Please come down to Tattenhall and cheer on the Vic’sKeep up with Tarporley Vic’s news via our website tarporleyvics.co.uk. lATe SUmmer IN yOUr GArDeNGardening by Janet heath

SEPTEMBER often provides a blaze of colour before autumn takes hold so if you like bright, bold colours there is a wide range of fl owers to choose from. Shrubs such as Hibiscus syriacus also known as the tree hollyhock because of the shape of their

fl owers, are hardy shrubs with fl owers in white, pink and blue. They fl ower for weeks in autumn. Perovskia Blue Spire is a small shrub with branches of tiny electric blue fl owers. It likes a well-drained soil in sun and provides colour well into autumn. Bright, bold colours for a damp soil why not try Rudbekia fulgida Goldsturm in yellow and

pair it with Lobelia cardinalis with its purple leaved foliage and red fl owers. Heleniums come in a range of red, yellow, orange and russet colours, are good for the back of a border and give colour for a few weeks especially if dead-headed. Japanese anemones are great ground cover with tall or shorter fl owering stems in white or pink. They also fl ower for weeks, well into autumn. Some delphiniums will fl ower again in September if their fi rst fl ush of fl owers were removed after fl owering. You can dig up and split perennials in autumn and as the soil is still warm they should settle in

well before winter. Try to remember to plant daffodils in September (tulips can wait until October) for fl owering next year. Lawn repairs can be carried out in September. If you have bare patches in the lawn or want to

sow a new lawn, September is a good time for sowing grass seed or laying turf. Scarify to remove moss and apply a weed killer to control those tough perennial weeds. Hedges can have their fi nal trim of the year to leave them neat and tidy over winter. Autumn ripening raspberries such as Autumn Bliss and blackberries will now be in season and

taste wonderful. Some early season apples will be ripening so if you want to grow your own dessert apples, consider Egremont Russet, Fiesta, Katy or Greensleeves. They will be ready to eat in September but will not keep for very long, so just pick them from the tree!
