I recently conducted a survey which was sent out to the whole school about target audience for our production. For the first question, the answers were mainly that the target audience is directed at young adults which could mainly be because of the content that is involved. For the second question, I asked everyone what they liked about the opening sequence - many who study the subject used terminology and one person had said, " The montage of shots used, non-diegetic soundtrack fitted the overall mood and atmosphere you were trying to create and the combination of close up and various angles used to show his journey interpreted the character's pain and conflicting emotions well. Liked the sparse use of dialogue (diegetic sound)." This showed that this gave a good insight towards a particular person in the audience. Others had said that it looked professional while some said that they were confused on some parts. Those that were confused must therefore be in the younger years and may not understand conventions as much as our peers do and the analysis of it. We asked what could be improved, and the feedback came across the speech of the characters. We would come back and fix it if we could and if it was a major issue but what we are mainly focusing on is the type of shots and camera work as well as editing. However, we can improve the quality of the sound and will hope to do so in other edits of our opening sequence. I wanted to know the audience's opinion on the music that had been chosen and many respondents had said that it was an appropriate choice and it suits the opening sequence well. Minority of the respondents said that another genre of music should have been used but in my opinion it would have changed the mood of the opening sequence and that would have reflected upon the protagonist. The last question, I asked them if they could guess the genre of the opening sequence. Many of the respondents didn't know the name of the genre (Coming of Age) but they knew in what sort of category it would lie in. Since the survey had ages of different respondents, we had varied answers which therefore tell us that our target audience is only for young adults that are 15 and above. Any younger, would not be able to understand the conventions of the genre and may struggle to understand the movie as a whole if it were to be one.
