LABORATORIES OTHER THAN CENTRAL RESEARCH LABORATORY

The laboratory has common sample collection facility and divided into three departments comprising of Pathology,

Microbiology and Biochemistry.

DEPARTMENT OF PATHOLOGY (EQUIPMENTS AND FACILITIES AVAILABLE):

The department of Pathology has the following divisions such as Hematology, clinical Pathology, Cytopathology and

Histopathology.

The following tests are done in the Hematology laboratory,

Complete blood count including Hb, total and differential WBC count, Platelet count and other blood indices. The

laboratory has two automated analysers to perform these tests. (Sysmex- KX21 & Sysmex XN350)

Coagulation work up – Bleeding time, clotting time, prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time, fibrinogen

and D-dimer assay. Most of the tests in coagulation panel are done by Sysmex CA-101

Erythrocyte sedimentation rate, Peripheral smear examination, Bone marrow examination

Detection of blood parasites (rapid antigen capture cards are available along with peripheral smear examination)

The following tests are done in clinical Pathology laboratory,

Complete urine examination done by 10 parameter uro strips followed by examination of the urine sediments under

microscope, Urine pregnancy test and Semen analysis

The following tests are done in Cytopathology laboratory,

Fine needle aspiration cytology – direct, Fine needle aspiration cytology – ultrasound guided, Pap smear – conventional

and liquid based cytology using automated Ezi prep machine, Tzank smear, Fluid cytology

The following tests are done in Histopathology laboratory,

Routine Hematoxylin and Eosin staining , Special stains, Immuno histochemistry

Rapid intraoperative diagnosis/ frozen sections (Medimees - cryostat)

Histopathology laboratory is equipped with grossing station, automated Histokinette, embedding machine, semi-

automated microtome and an automated staining station. In order to view the slides simultaneously for diagnostic and

teaching purposes, the division is provided with penta head microscope.

testing including HRCT, Viral cultures, PCR and specialized testing, empirical antimicrobial based on the pharmacology

and antimicrobial spectrum

Diagnostic tests based on the differential diagnosis including: CBC with differential, peripheral smear, urinary analysis

with sediment, Chest X ray, blood and urine cultures, sputum gram stain and cultures, sputum AFB and cultures, CSF

analysis, pleural and body fluid analysis, stool routine and culture and QBC, collection of blood and wound cultures, liver

function changes and hepatitis serology
