The theme of the show was "'Interpreting Beauty Through our Five Senses." Mrs. George Goldson won the first prize for the club in Class 11, "Sound of the Drum". The following members repre- sented the club, Mrs. Louis Band- ler, vice-president; Mrs. William J. Norton, secretary; Mrs. Walter Relnhardt, Horticulture chairman and Mrs. Eugene Zerner, past president. Pleads For Safe Summer Driving Sam Shapiro Cites Safely Plea Directed To Truck Drivers As Good For All A heart warming appeal to motorists to be careful while driv- ing, •particularly during the sum- mer months While children are playing on the streets, was cited this week by Sam Shapiro of the Purity Laundry, Beach 72nd street and Beach Channel drive. Shapiro said the appeal entitled "My Little Girl" was directed to laundry truck drivers but should be heeded by drivers everywhere. It reads: "Today my daughter, who is seven years old, started to school as usual. She wore a dark blue dress with a white collar. She had on black shoes and wore blue gloves. Her cocker spaniel, whose name is Coot, sat on the front porch and whined his canine be- lief in the folly of education as she waved good-by c and started off to the hall of learning. "Tonight we talked about school. She told me about the girl who sits in front of her, the girl with the yellow curls, and the boy across the aisle who makes funny faces. She told me about her teacher, wh ohas eyes in the back of her head, and about ,the ti;ees in the schoolyard, and about her. teacher, who has eyes in Santa Claus. We talked about a lot of things tremendously vi- tal, unimportant things; and then we studied Spelling, reading, arithmetic and then to bed. Rockaway Scouts Win First Game The Rockaway Scouts downed the St. John's Home softball team Sunday at the home field 13-2 It was the first game of the season for the scouts comprising boys from various troops in the Rock- aways. Eddie Seaman pitched a three hit game for the winners. Jerry O'Shea aided the scoring with a home run with bases filled. The game was a non-league contest The scouts expect to play several of the Little League teams as the season progresses. Cassel Ronkin Named Rockaway Chairman Cassel Ronkin of 433 Beach 143rd street has been appointed chairman of the Rockaway area by the Queens Council of The Lighthouse, it was announced. He will be assisted by Mrs. Ab- raham Margulies of 20-57 Seagirt boulevard, Far Rockaway, who will head all women's activities for The Lighthouse in the Rock- aways.
