Studios & Special Offerings After Camp Academics: Individual Lessons with

Ms. Elizabeth Falls

Ms. Elizabeth Falls will be teaching private lessons

from 3:30 - 5:15 p.m. each afternoon. Lessons will

focus on math and language (Pre-Reading/Reading

and handwriting) lessons are open to all Preschool

through elementary students.

Lessons are filled on a first come first serve basis and

will be offered every afternoon in 45 minute

increments (3:30-4:15 & 4:30-5:15). In order to keep

the lessons individualized, please note there is a two

student maximum per session.

Elementary/Middle School MEET THE TEACHERS

Mr. Richard Aslanian has been teaching at Millhopper Montessori School

for the past twenty years. Mr. Richard holds a B.A. in History from the

University of Florida. He received his AMS certificate in 1997 and has

been trained in Phono-Graphix. Both of his sons , Dominick and Patrick,

attended Millhopper Montessori School. His son Dominick now attends

Eastside High School’s IB program. In addition to his many contributions

to MMS, he also hosts Chess Club on Tuesday afternoon during the regu-

lar school year and coaches our middle school basketball team.

Ms. Sylvia Aslanian is part of the Technology Team and has been teaching

at MMS for seventeen years. Using the International Technology

Education Standards, she developed a curriculum for kindergarten –

eighth grades incorporating the lessons and projects from other classes

and created a website: www.millhopertech.com. She earned a

Certificate in Multimedia/Visual Communications from the University of

Phoenix and is currently working on a B.S. in Information Technology/

Multimedia and Visual Communication.

Ms. Widline Senecharles was an assistant teacher at MMS for five years and

is now a lead teacher in a Kindergarten classroom at Talbot

Elementary School. She received her AMS 3 - 6 Montessori Certificate and

has an A.A. in Agriculture. Also, she received her B.A. in Elementary

Education. In addition, Widline currently attends St. Leo University where

she is working on her Master’s degree in Educational Leadership.

Coach Cam Parker has been the PE teacher for MMS for seven years. He

has worked in summer camps for seventeen years. His sports background

includes facilitating youth leagues and refereeing youth sports and is an

avid sports fan. Coach Cam received his B.A. from UF in Family, Youth

and Community Sciences. He completed the State of Florida Teacher

Certification Program for Physical Education K-12 at Santa Fe College.

Ms. Crystal Sorrow has been at MMS for fourteen years and holds a B.A.

in English Literature from University of Florida. She took over as Lead

Teacher in the Early Childhood/Beginner’s Class in October 2001. Ms.

Crystal holds an Early Childhood Montessori Certificate. She supervises

the Fifth Grade Safety Patrollers who assist the school by providing

a morning and afternoon drop off service. Ms. Crystal has also

taught Cooking and Creative Movement in after school studios at MMS.

Ms. Elizabeth Falls is the Lead Teacher in one of the Preschool/

Kindergarten classes at MMS and teacher of Afternoon Academics. This is

Ms. Elizabeth’s sixteenth year teaching at Millhopper Montessori School.

She holds her B.S. in Psychology/Child Studies, A.S. degree in Medical

Administration and AMS 3-6 Montessori Teaching Certificate. She is

trained in Phono-Graphix and has a background and interest in working

with special needs children.

Ms. Crystal Sorrow’s Beginners Camp Schedule & Themes Ages 2 through 4

The Beginners summer camp is a Montessori hands-on curriculum combined with weekly educational fun themes, arts and crafts, music and playground fun!

Every Wednesday is dress-up day, corresponding with the weekly theme.

WEEK 1 June 9 - June 13 Circus Comes to Town

Run away and join the circus! There will be singing, clowning, juggling practice, animal sounds, and additional big tent fun! Circus themed crafts and a special circus dress up day will round out the fabulously fun week.

WEEK 2 June 16 - June 20 Fantasy Fun Imagination is key! Dream away the days imagining life as a super hero, dragon, princess, knight, unicorn, fairy, or magician. Fantastical art, costume fun, and Splash Day will have all the heroes celebrating. Activities will include a puppet theatre with fantasy themed puppets, a castle play set, fairy tale figures, and much more.

WEEK 3 June 23 - June 27 Art Adventures Art is everywhere! Don a smock and decorate as the world is imagined through a plethora of mediums. Water, paint, charcoal, chalk, and shaving cream will lead to adventures aplenty. Join the creative team in scrutinizing the natural world for inspiration. Dress as Picasso or a tin of paints on dress-up day and delve into water works on Splash Day.

WEEK 4 (no school on July 4th) June 30 - July 3 Lively Luau Aloha! Welcome to a week of beach and island themed fun. There will be summer crafts, festive décor, and a luau with hula dancers. Music will match the mood as instruments are played, sand castles are built, and beach balls are batted to and fro. Dress in your island best on our weekly dress-up day and show off your surfing skills in the Splash Day pool.

WEEK 5 July 7 - July 11 Ahoy Mateys! Join the crew of Captain Crystal Blackheart as she sets sail on the high seas. All buccaneers welcome. Shanties shall be sung; treasure chests hunted and dug up, eye patches adorned. Show off your piratical finery on dress-up day and

TERMS: Due to high demand and limited camp space, a non-refundable deposit equal to one week’s camp tuition is due upon enrollment to hold a spot for each child. If MMS is not notified a minimum of four weeks before the camp start date of your intent to withdraw, you will be responsible for payment for the entire week of camp.

All full day students will need to bring their

lunches. Please note, lunches cannot be

Ms. Elizabeth is the Lead Teacher in one

MMS. This is Ms. Elizabeth’s fourteenth

School. She started as an Assistant

Teacher in the Lower Elementary Class-

room. Ms. Elizabeth holds her 3-6 AMS

Montessori Certificate, is trained in Pho-

no-Graphix and has completed the Mon-

tessori Key Concepts Workshop. She has

thirteen years experience in the Lower

Elementary level. Elizabeth has a back-

ground and interest in working with spe-

cial needs children. Elizabeth holds her BS

in Psychology/Child Studies. She also

holds an Associate of Science degree in

Medical Administration. She is a mother

of three, all of whom have attended

MMS.

Ms. Elizabeth Falls’ Preschool & Kindergarten Camp Schedule & Themes Ages 3.5 years of age* through Upcoming Kindergarten Students

*Students must be at least 3.5years of age, potty trained and no longer requires a nap to be considered for this camp. The Preschool/Kindergarten Summer camp focus is to engage the children in theme-related activities utilizing the Montessori hands-on curriculum. They will experience fun educational activities including music and songs, arts and crafts, cooking, and indoor/outdoor games to continue their love of learning through the summer. Themes include:

WEEK 1 June 9 - June 13 Island Explorer

Come and enjoy a week exploring the islands! Some planned activities include coconut bowling and making musical instruments!

WEEK 2 June 16 - June 20 Jungle Adventure

A week of jungle fun! The children will learn about the rainforest and the animals that call it home.

WEEK 3

June 23 - June 27 Treasure Island (Pirate Week!) Ahoy mateys! Come enjoy a summer camp favorite: a week of Pirate fun, including scavenger hunts and sunken treasure!

WEEK 4 (no school on July 4th)

June 30 - July 3 Imagination and Fantasy Imagination and pretend play is an important element for children to include into every day play. It helps children to be creative and to “think outside the box”. Some activities planned are: dramatic play (mini-skits) and a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party!

WEEK 5

July 7 - July 11 Amazing World of Nature

Come explore the wonders of nature! Activities will include the study of in-sects, earth science, and hands-on experiments.

WEEK 6

July 14 - July 18 Medieval Times

Travel back in time to an age of castles, knights, and princesses! Some activities will include Medieval Olympic games and a dress-up day.

Art Adventures - Ms. Widline Senecharles

(Upcoming 1st through 2nd graders)

Art unlocks our imagination! Come and join us as we come to life while working with clay,

paint, watercolors, chalk and pastels. Each child will create their own masterpiece in

camp.

Science of Summer - Mr. Richard Aslanian & Coach Cam Parker

(Upcoming 2nd through 8th graders)

Mr. Richard and Coach Cam are joining forces to create

this super week of summer and science. Students will be

reminded that summers actually can be spent outside

instead of in front of computer screens. Weather

permitting this group will travel off site each day to a

natural spring or other body of water. At each location we

will have natural science lessons to go with the fun and

frolicking. It’s the best of both worlds. Add in some

geocaching and fishing, and this week has a little bit for

everyone.

*The price of the field trips will be in addition to the camp fee listed and will be

collected with permission slips. We will need drivers, and drivers will have their

admission to any destination paid for by the school.

WEEK 2 June 16 - June 20

Little Chefs - Ms. Widline Senecharles

(Upcoming 1st through 2nd graders)

The children will learn to cook through hands-on discovery! Your child will learn how to

follow a recipe; in addition, add the ingredients of fun, the basics of chemistry, an exercise

in math and reading. Your child will taste new foods and explore their senses and build on

the basic skills that lay the foundation to healthy eating. We will finish the week with a top

chef style competition. There is a $20.00 supply fee for this camp.

WEEK 2 (Cont.) June 16 - June 20

Woodworking - Mr. Richard Aslanian

(Upcoming 2nd through 8th graders)

This week the students will use many tools and materials to create fun projects. We will read simple plans, measure, cut, drill and

nail during the workshop. The projects will then be sanded and painted by the students. The finished products will be put on

display for the students and parents to enjoy before being taken home at the end of the week. Tools will be used by the students

and instructors. There is a $20.00 supply fee for this camp.

Wide World of Sports - Summer Olympics - Coach Cam Parker

(Upcoming 1st through 8th graders)

Fresh off the heel of the Winter Olympics, we will use and Olympic format to expose our students to a wide variety of games and

activities. Campers will be sorted into countries, learn about their new “homes” and play a wide variety of games while trying to

earn medal points for their flag. Many of the students favorites, like cup stacking and jump rope, will be integrated into this week.

This ain’t your ordinary Olympics!

WEEK 3 June 23 - June 27

Under The Sea - Ms. Widline Senecharles

(Upcoming 1st through 2nd graders)

Join us for an under the sea adventure! The children will have the opportunity to explore and learn about many sea creatures. In

addition, the children will complete a number of crafts and activities.

Camp NRG - Mr. Richard Aslanian & Coach Cam Parker (Upcoming 1st through 8th graders)

Mr. Richard and Coach Cam are tag teaming again to bring you this week all about ENERGY. Campers will learn all about how

energy is created and transferred. These lessons will be imbedded in both science and sports activities. We will even have a few

field trips that exemplify the power of energy.

*The price of the field trips will be in addition to the camp fee listed and will be collected with permission slips. We will need

drivers, and drivers will have their admission to any destination paid for by the school.

WEEK 4 June 30 - July 3 (no camp on Friday, July 4th)

Hawaiian Hullabaloo - Ms. Widline Senecharles (Upcoming 1st through 2nd graders) It’s time to say Aloha! Join us for an Hawaiian Luau and limbo. The children will make Leis and grass skirts as they explore the island of Hawaii.

Invention/Animation - Mr. Richard Aslanian

(Upcoming 2nd through 8th graders) This week you will learn about various inventors and inventions. Our focus will be to explore and create fun projects using cranks,

pulleys, levers and motors. You will use your imagination and hard work to cooperatively make an original invention. In the

animation portion, you will learn the history and process of animation. You will create your own animated short using a program

best suited to your talents. We will have an special viewing of the completed projects on Friday. Your short will be put onto a disc

for you to take home when you’re finished.

WEEK 4 (Cont.) June 30 - July 3 (no camp on Friday, July 4th)

Oh the Places We’ll Go - Coach Cam Parker (Upcoming 1st through 8th graders) This camp will venture offsite every single day of the week to visit a local destination that keeps us active. Campers will skate, bowl, club and bounce in the camp designed to get students aware of all the things they can do in and around our community to stay fit and active. *The price of the field trips will be in addition to the camp fee listed and will be collected with permission slips. We will need drivers, and drivers will have their admission to any destination paid for by the school.

WEEK 5 July 7 - July 11

Amazing Creatures - Ms. Widline Senecharles

(Upcoming 1st through 2nd graders)

This week campers will have the opportunity to learn about AMAZING creatures from all over the world. There will be a mix of crafts and lots of

hands on exploration during this exciting week of camp.

The Big 3 - Coach Cam Parker (Upcoming 2nd through 8th graders) During this week of diversity, campers will learn about and play all of the “mainstream” sports: Football, Basketball and Baseball. Each day we will dabble into each sport with mini-games and indoor activities based on each sport. The camp will serve as somewhat of a highlight reel of America’s most popular sports. Each day will consist of a variety of games, skill drills, knowledge based activities and even crafts relative to the weeks theme sport(s). We will not be playing any particular sport exclusively. We will integrate the skills and concepts into a fun filled day.

WEEK 5 & 6 July 7 - July 11 & July 14—July 18

Drama: TWO WEEK Performing Arts Intensive - This year the Summer Camp Players present PIRATES FROM GRAMMAR ISLAND – THE MUSICAL (Upcoming 2nd through 8th graders)

Production Crew (Upcoming 9th through 12th graders) Show Synopsis: Sure, they're pirates, but you won't believe what buried treasure they're looking for. With a map in one hand and a dictionary in the other, these brigands scour uncharted waters for grammatical gold: complete sentences, parts of speech, contractions, subject-verb agreement, and correct punctuation and capitalization. The play is chock-full of information, clever song lyrics, and of course silly jokes that all reinforce grammar.

REQUIREMENTS: Black long pants and ALL black shoes (black boots optional).

EXPECTATIONS: Must be able to read a script, memorize lines, rehearse at home, take direction, learn choreography , practice diction exercises

and vocal warm ups, and be at all REHEARSALS 9:00am – 3:00pm. Please do not sign up if you are not able to attend every day for two weeks

9:00am – 3:00pm. Parts will be cast on Monday, July 7, 2014. Please pick up the script on July 3rd, read the script and prepare to do a reading for

several parts. Our performance will be on Friday, July 18, 2014 at 11:30am.

WEEK 6 July 14 - July 18

Music Makers - Ms. Widline Senecharles (Upcoming 1st Grade through 2nd graders)

During this fun, interactive camp, our little Music Makers will put together for karaoke and air guitar, dress up like a Rock Star and hold a costume changing relay. We will be exploring different music styles through a number of genres, and the children will have the opportunity to form a band of their own complete with band logo, “press” photo’s and flyers. See you at camp!

Aquatics - Coach Cam Parker (Upcoming 2nd through 8th graders)

Campers will participate in two onsite water extravaganzas where we introduce some H2O to a few popular games. This will go along with trips to two local swimming venues (TBA) and a voyage to Aquatica in Orlando. Show up with your bathing suit under your clothes and pack the sunscreen, as we will be soaking up the Florida fun and sun. *The price of the field trips will be in addition to the camp fee listed and will be collected with the permission slips. We will need drivers, and drivers will have their admission to any destination paid by the school.

Become a member of the MMS Summer Camp Crew!

We are excited to offer our rising Sixth through Eighth grade students, as well as

any MMS alumni currently in high school, the opportunity to take part in our

summer camp program as a Junior Counselor!

Requirements:

Activities are planned in a camp setting for children attending our Beginners Camp

(ages 2 - 4), Preschool/Kindergarten (ages 4 - 6) and Elementary Programs (First

through Eighth Grade students).

Applicant must be a rising Sixth through Twelfth grade student. Prior attendance at

MMS summer camp is desirable. Must have an interest in leadership skills, willingness

to learn, a positive attitude and understand organizational skills and group dynamics.

Must have an ability for and an interest in assisting with a variety of activities

including all camps being offered at MMS. Must have a genuine interest in working

with people.

Junior Counselor's roles are to:

participate under the supervision of the Camp Directors and in

implementing activities in the safest manner possible

be a positive role model

actively interact with the children to promote and encourage their

personal growth

create video news clips and hard copy newsletters to be distributed each

Friday.

Personal Development:

1. Develop skills in planning and implementing activities with children.

2. Be prepared to receive feedback and support from anyone at camp.

3. Maintain a positive and open outlook.

4. Be a positive role model for the children. Encourage their good behavior with

attention and affection.

MMS incorporates food preparation in the Montessori curriculum area of Practical Life

**MMS does not have a nurse on staff. The teachers and assistant teachers are all certified in first aid and CPR. MMS can give

medication orally or assist with an Epi-Pen if the parent has filled out the appropriate form for the dispensing of medicine.

**If a child is allergic to an ingested substance (such as red food coloring or chocolate) and is old enough to monitor himself or

herself, there should not be any difficulty in the MMS environment. It is the parent’s responsibility to have alternate food

available for birthday parties or the child can be proactive and abstain from special snacks. It will not be the responsibility of

the school or the teachers to notify parents in advance of an in-class event such as a special snack or a practical life activity

containing food.

Tuition is paid through Tuition Express the Friday before each week of camp.

You may pay by checking account or credit card (no fees are applied). Please

fill out either page 15 or 16 and submit it with your registration paperwork.

TERMS:

Due to high demand and limited camp space, a non-refundable deposit equal to one week’s camp tuition is due upon enrollment to hold a spot for each child. If MMS is not notified a minimum of four weeks before the camp start date of your intent to withdraw,

you will be responsible for payment for the entire week of camp.

School’s 2014 Summer Camp! Our camp is in its 36th year!

Millhopper Montessori School (MMS) will offer an enriching

and exciting day camp for Beginners, Preschool,

Kindergarten, Elementary and Middle School students June

9th-July 18th. The camp activities will include specialty

classes, crafts, Afternoon Academics, games, sports, and

special events that revolve around a variety of themes. The

Beginner’s, Preschool & Kindergarten students will

experience a Montessori hands on curriculum, weekly

educational fun themes, arts & crafts, music and playground

fun! The First through Eighth grade students can choose

from the following options: Enrichment, Theater, Science,

Wide World of Sports, Afternoon Academics.
