Make Your Summer MemorableSUMMER CAMP MEMORIES ARE THE BEST MEMORIES

Welcome to the magical world of summer camp at Girl Scouts–Arizona Cactus-Pine Council . Girl Scout camp is a place where girls can take a deep breath, enjoy nature, make new friends, sleep in a tent, hike, build a fire, and wrap up the day with campfire songs . At camp, girls step outside their comfort zone, take risks and grow as leaders . All the programs and sessions offered at our camps are designed to fulfill Girl Scout Leadership Experience outcomes while challenging girls to do new and exciting activities – some of which are only available at camp .

GENERALInformationGirlScout CAMPING Residential summer camping provides a creative, educational, group-living experience in the out-of-doors . Combining Girl Scout programs, trained leadership, and the resources of the natural surroundings, the camp experience is designed to contribute to each camper’s mental, physical, social and spiritual growth . In providing progression based programming, Daisy and Brownie Girl Scouts do not participate in archery. All outdoor activities are weather permitting.

Badges& PATCHESAlthough badge work is not the focus of our camping programs, every girl who attends camp will receive an award at the end of her week . Our primary focus is to facilitate experiences that create the conditions for girls to learn more about themselves (Discover), one another (Connect) and make choices that help their community thrive (Take Action) .

Not a Girl Scout?? Not a problem! Invite your friends, cousins, and sisters to register and join you! Non-Girl Scouts will be charged an additional $15 membership fee at time of registration .

GENERALInformationHealth& SAFETY Our camps meet stringent county, state and national standards . The main gate is locked nightly at each camp, and local law enforcement agencies are notified of camp sessions . A health supervisor is on duty at all times during the camp sessions to supervise the health and safety of campers and dispense all medications .

HealthSupervisors NEEDED We are looking for several individuals to commit to a minimum of one week in these very important positions at camp . Eligible candidates must either be a registered nurse, EMT or paramedic (licensed in Arizona) who would consider living and working at camp Sunday morning through Friday night . Camp-age campers of the health supervisor can attend our sessions at a reduced fee . For more information, please contact a camp director .

Special NEEDS Please contact the camp director for campers who require special diets (including food allergies), special health care or have mobility limitations . At that time, you will be able to discuss the nature of your camper’s needs and gather more information to determine if the proper support, supervision and necessary accommodations can be provided for a safe, fulfilling camp experience .

To be successful at camp, your camper needs to be independent with self-care (showering, dressing, using the restroom) and be comfortable in an 8:1 camper to staff ratio .

We are dedicated to serving ALL girls in our Council and accommodations can be made in many cases . Contact the camp director for more info prior to registering .

Buddies@ CAMPGirl Scout camp is a wonderful way to meet new people . A camper may request ONE “buddy” when registering for camp . Both campers must register for the same program or session at the same camp . Make sure you and your child’s buddy and her parents are planning this together . Bunk buddy placement is not guaranteed . Groups, troops, and multiple buddy requests WILL NOT be accommodated for non-troop camp sessions .

Page 9: Summer Camp Brochure 2016

GIRL SCOUTS summerCAMP GUIDE 09

Transportation » Campers may be driven to camp » Campers may register for bus transportation from the Phoenix metro area

We recommend using the bus – it gives girls an opportunity to meet other girls before they arrive at camp . It also reduces wear and tear on the camp’s natural environment . Resident camp buses are equipped with air conditioning, bathrooms, and are supervised by bus chaperones . The bus fee for resident camp is $60 and is non-refundable . One way is not available . Bus locations can be found online .

Your camper can ride the bus for free! How? All you have to do is be a bus chaperone! Call 602-452-7080 or email campbus@girlscoutsaz .org .

Facilities@ CAMP Sleeping facilities at camp are primarily units of 5-9 cabins . Depending on the camp and session attending, it can also include dormitory-style living, platform or traditional tents . Counselors do not share sleeping facilities with campers, but live in close proximity to them . All units are equipped with running water, shower houses and toilets, that may be separate from cabins, but in close proximity .

Campers will not have access to phones to receive or make calls while at camp . If there is a problem or if your camper is not doing well, a staff member will contact you . We invite you to contact the camp director at any time during your camper’s session if you have concerns or questions . Cell phones brought to camp will be secured in the camp office until the camper is ready to leave for home . GSACPC is not responsible for lost, stolen, broken, or damaged property .

Camp BLOGSEach camp posts a weekly blog to help parents stay connected and informed about the weather and exciting activities taking place at camp . Our blogs contain pictures and stories, and are general in nature . We can’t guarantee pictures or stories about every child . Check the website for examples of last year’s blogs .
