MZ You grew up in Trench Town as the last BobMarley, did you know or worked with each otherbefore becoming household names?I knew him and we have worked on a couple ofshows. As for before we were household names,my older brother knew him better, I grew upmore with his children.

MZ Do you believe that the atmosphere aroundreggae music has changed much since back inyour days? Definitely, It has moved from being talent andskill driven to more hype and PR driven.

MZ If you could what changes would you like tobring about in the reggae music industry. I would love to see more of a balance in theradio play of reggae gospel. Reggae gospel isreggae and should be treated in the same wayas you would treat a reggae song that profess-es another faith or even just another socialissue.

MZ You were reggae artist of the year on sever-al occasions, what impact did this have on you? This brought me back to the forefront of thebusiness and also opened the doors for me totour internationally.

MZ Why did you and your dad not communicatefor 6years, and do you now believe them to bewasted years or was it worth it?We did not communicate because of bad familyissues that went down. If I had to do it all overagain I would fight with him real quick and get itover with. Malice robs you of too much qualitytime. Forgiveness is better.

MZ What made you start searching for a reli-gion?I was not really searching for religion; I wassearching for peace which I thought camethrough religion.

MZ Rastafarianism and Islam were just two ofothers you sorted, why did you not convert toany of these religions? Too many things that justdidn’t add up or made sense and also the

knowledge and presence of Christ became realto me in my room that night I reached out toGod. No other God answered my prayers. Christis more than a spiritual choice from a book. Hebecame real to me.

MZ What lead you to the Kingdom of God?My experience with the presence of Jesus in myroom.

MZ What if any was your main challenged tothis conversion? Dealing with the few religiouspeople who don’t know how powerful their Godis that He could really save me.

MZ After your public declaration to Christian, were you taken seriously by friends and those inthe reggae community? Yes. I have no problemswith them.

MZ What message would you like to send to fel-low unconverted artist? Make sure that youunderstand that when you give your life to Christyou are giving it to Him and not to Gospel Musicas a job. Christ is interested in building peoplenot careers.

MZ What do you hoped for listeners to beblessed with? The message in the music.

MZ How do you see the future of reggaegospel? As the number one music from theislands, not just reggae, but soca gospel, calyp-so gospel….anything gospel.

MZ What are your plans for the future? To keepspreading the gospel of Christ through out thenations…..ina island style

Your HeartMattersBy Angela Tella BSc,Registered Dietitian & Nutrition Consultant

Heart disease remains a major cause of death in the Westernworld and is the UK’s biggest killer with over 275 people dyingfrom it everyday in the UK, according to figures by the BritishHeart Foundation.

I recently read Proverbs 4:23, “…guard your heart with allvigilance…for out of it flow the springs of life”, and saw thisverse in a very different light. Life flows from your physical heartas it pumps blood through your body and so you need to guardor look after it. One way of doing this is by eating a heart-

healthy diet which has been proven to reduce cholesterol andblood pressure levels, both well known risk factors fordeveloping heart disease. Some practical ways of doing this are:

• Eat more fruit and vegetablesAim for the recommended 5 portions daily.

• Eat oily fish such as salmon, mackerel, sardines, freshtuna and pilchards at least once a week. Oily fish containomega-3 fats which are important to heart health. Omega-3 fatscan also be found naturally in walnuts, flaxseed and flaxseed oil,and are added to some brands of yoghurt, milk, eggs and evenfish fingers.

• Prioritize and learn to say ‘no’. What’simportant and what’s urgent? Realize that saying ‘yes’ to this ineffect means saying ‘no’ to that. Besides, you only have 24 hoursin any given day…

• Watch fat intake.Replace saturated fats like coconut oil and animal fat (lard, ghee) with better quality fats such as monounsaturated andpolyunsaturated fats e.g. olive, rapeseed, sunflower, soya andgroundnut oils. Also choose lower fat dairy products.

• Limit salt intake as too much salt increases bloodpressure levels. About 75% of salt intake is from processed andmanufactured foods, so always check labels.

Other lifestyle factors that play an important role in keepingyour heart healthy include regular physical activity, maintaininga healthy weight, as well as reducing and managing your stresslevels. Remember, your heart matters so do what you can tokeep it ticking over nicely. Selah!

of the time.’ This means that your life tends toswerve in the direction of your predominantthoughts because your predominant thoughtsconstitute your mental focus. You will alwaysmove in the direction of your focus. When inmotion the golden rule is, look where you aregoing. The reason is not just because you willfail to see any obstacles in your way but alsobecause over a period of time, you will gowhere you are looking. You will simply swervein the direction of your focus. At variousstages in life we tend to fall prey to variouspre-occupations such as the opposite sex, ourcareer or our children. Perhaps it is now yourtime to become pre-occupied with your mainjob in life and that is the business of life itself.

What then is your goal? It is to give God themaximum return on His investment in you byliving a great life. In his book ‘from good togreat,’ Jim Collins says that good is the enemyof great. He argues that good is the reasonwhy we lack greatness. The reason we lackgreat companies, schools and governments isbecause we have enough good companies, schools and governments. I say that the sameapplies to the business of life. The good lifeopposes the great life because it creates acheap sense of satisfaction that does no justiceto the great investment that God made inyou. Most people are content to live a goodlife. I am not and neither should you be.Greatness is your goal because anything less iswasted potential. I am sure that you are livinga good life right now but so long as you havethe potential to be great that potential is long-ing for expression. The good news is that youcan make the transition from good to greatand even from bad to great by applying thebasic laws of greatness to your life.

When you view your life as your chief busi-ness and begin to set it up for optimum per-formance and maximum results you quicklymove into a new mode of living called great-ness. In that mode, your health, relation-ships, career and past times become great.Your life becomes effective and meaningfulto those around you who inevitably becomebeneficiaries of your successful life.

hether you know it or not, you are inbusiness and God is your chief investor. Yourbusiness is called the business of life. If timewere currency and seconds were pounds, thenby the time you reach age 30, God wouldalready have invested billions into your busi-ness. In addition to the time investment thereare the opportunity investments, the peopleinvestments, the educational investments andthe resource investments, which if convertedinto currency would amount to zillions. Thismeans that God really believes in you and hasput His money where His mouth is by back-ing you to the max. Your main goal and greatjob in life then, is to give God the maximumreturn on His investment in you.

Many people struggle to find a single purposefor which to live. They tend to lack a focalpoint or main objective in life. They are miss-ing a sense of mission and lifetime obsession. The problem occurs when we segment ourlives and single aspects of life become themain aim. Some folks have their career as theirmain aim and by so doing have focused alltheir energies into becoming successful inbusiness. The first casualty of this destructiveway of thinking is the family. The secondcasualty is your friends and social life and thenfinally your health itself because if you focuson any one aspect of your life, you willinevitably neglect the others.

Your main aim in life should never be to excelin one area of life but rather to excel and suc-ceed in the business of life itself. Life is busi-ness and the rules for business success apply to

life. Who would even consider investing in abusiness that had no vision, corporate strate-gy, management structure or fiscal policy? Wewould all conclude that the business isdoomed to an early grave. Yet we live our liveswithout mission, plan, structure or strategyand conclude that, because we are breathingwe must be living.

You are in business and that business is calledthe business of life. It is your chief occupationand should become your great pre-occupa-tion. Ancient wisdom and contemporaryresearch agrees that you get what you aremindful of and that your state of life tends toreflect your state of mind. ‘Earl Nightingalesaid, ‘you become what you think about most
