Dear Friends and Supporters of Texas College:

As we entered the 2014-2015 school year, we did so with the theme,

“Building for the Future…Establishing a Fingerprint for Success.”

This theme was chosen as a reminder of how the administration

would work to achieve the strategic direction of the College; the

direction as recorded in the 2012-1017 Strategic Plan. The theme

was also chosen to assist in reminding the college family of our

individual and collective responsibilities to Texas College and our

Mission.

Just as the founding fathers of the College made a commitment to

build and retain Texas College as an educational institution for those

in need of an education, it is now the responsibility of the current

administration to continue that mantra. We invite you to be a part of

the future of Texas College; we invite you to make a difference in

the life of the College for deserving students.

Included herein is a report of the progress made during the 2014-

2015 period. Thank you in advance for your support of Texas

College. Kindly note that you are appreciated for all that you do.

Sincerely,

Dr. Dwight J. Fennell

President

group of CME ministers. Our mission, which continues to embody the

principles of the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church, is to ensure that

the student body experiences balanced intellectual, psychological, social

and spiritual development, aimed at enabling them to become active

productive members of society where they live and work.

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE – Developing a culture of curiosity and

creativity that will challenge the frontiers of teaching/learning; stimulate

research; raise the level of analytical reasoning and inquiry; and enable

students to acquire leadership, human relations, communications, and

technology skills.

INTEGRITY – Instilling the pursuit of character, honesty and sincerity

of purpose as the moral rubrics upon which the behaviors of our

graduates and College family are anchored.

PERSEVERANCE – Implanting diligence, enterprise and pride in the

application of skills, knowledge and abilities developed during the course

of study at Texas College.

TOLERANCE – Emphasizing openness to divergent points of view,

applying an eclectic approach to rational and analytical thinking.

COMMUNITY SERVICE – Encouraging self-extension in service to

others as the heart and soul of our educational enterprise.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY – Promoting in the College community a

conscious awareness that we are all stewards of the resources entrusted to

BUILDING INITIATIVE: The administration has successfully secured

funding for the building initiative. The initiative included provisions for a

living-learning project that included building: a new resident hall;

renovating the student center; complete renovations of two existing resident

halls; establishing a music building for band and choir; creating an outdoor

wellness track; and creating a fitness center. The total project cost was

estimated at $19.3 million.

INSTITUTIONAL REAFFIRMATION: Texas College is accredited by the

Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges

(SACSCOC) and has been for a ten year period. The Commission generally

accredits in ten-year intervals with the last accreditation period for the

college being 2006 -2016. During the 2015 -2016 period, a visiting team

(from SACSCOC) will again review the college for its next cycle of

accreditation. In preparation of the visit, the college has completed an

institutional self-study with all of the preliminary submissions have been

addressed. The next cycle when fully accredited will be for the period

2016-2026.

INSTITUTIONAL ADVANCEMENT: The function of the Advancement

Office is primarily for the raising of fiscal support and/or resources that

may offset operational costs. During the 2014-2015 period this office has

been significantly helpful with resource support that approximated $5

million.

COHORT DEFAULT: A cohort default rate is the percentage of the college's

borrowers who enter repayment on certain loans during a federal fiscal year

(October 1 to September 30) and default prior to the end of the next one to

two fiscal years. The United States Department of Education releases

official cohort default rates once per year whereby institutions are not to

exceed a 30% threshold. Maintaining the correct rate allows the college to

participate in Title III and Title IV funding initiatives. This is shared

because during the prior year incorrect cohort data was reported by the

Department of Education for the college; however, resolve was achieved

through a successful challenge.
