Welcome!! Welcome!!
Janet Klein is the only person we have ever spoke with who actually
used the words “Tee Hee” in her conversation. The Ukulele Chanteuse
leads a consort of musical aggregators (Her Parlor Boys) to whom the
music of the 20s and 30s is both second nature and a delight. Be it
Vaudeville, Jazz, Ragtime, Yiddish or early Tin Pan Alley, in the
vernacular of this century, they nail it!! Janet Klein is so retro, she makes
Rock-A-Billy seem like an invention of The Jetsons.
Teachers live for recess! Or in the case of three teachers from Seattle,
Recess Monkey. With over a dozen releases, this trio carries the flag in
the Kindie World. And they have a leg up due to bass player Jack
Forman being the host of a daily program on SiriusXM’s Kid Place Live
channel. Hot Air is the newest and is both an album and a 40 minute
animated video which accompanies the songs.
The Windham Hill label of acoustic/new age/folk releases was
prominent during the late 70s through the 90s. Adventure Music will
be reissuing some of those albums commencing this month with two
featuring Darol Anger. One pairs Darol with Barbara Higbie; the other
with Mike Marshall. These albums encapsulate a period of time when
the New Acoustic movement was first taking root in American music.
More to come in future months.
And we are pleased to offer a couple of new titles from the Toronto-
based Six Shooter Records. One from the Good Lovelies trio of
stunning vocalists featuring their stellar songwriting. The other from
Hawksley Workman, singer, songwriter, actor, band leader (Mounties),
and producer. A man who is so busy, it’s a wonder he gets anything
done---but yet he does. Old Cheetah is a sonic delight also available as
a double LP package.

Records recording (1985) shines a light on two of the architects of today’s New Acoustic music movement:
Mandolinist Mike Marshall and Violinist Darol Anger. Chiaroscuro CD set the stage for many
developments that the American string band format has since gone on to create. Darol and Mike’s
recording output and collaborations over that past 35 years reads like a who’s-who of string instruments in
the world today. From Edgar Meyer, Bela Fleck, Jerry Douglas, Chris Thile, Bruce Molsky, to the Turtle
Island Quartet, Psychograss, Vasen, and Hamilton de Holanda to name a few. But it was this recording
that in many ways paved the way for the next 30 years of acoustic music, creating some of the most
adventurous blending of new and old sounds that had never been heard before.

Bad Assets, PonchoPortland's Bad Assets play original whiskey drenched, roots rockin party country music. Singer/Songwriter
Motor Jeffries envisioned the project back in 2007 or so and recruited Ben Cosloy (lead guitar), Kevin
Marcotte (bass, vocals) and Damon Rose (drums). The band soon picked up where Motor's previous
project (Party Country) left off. They've since honed their particular brand of "Party Country", this time
generally focusing on songs about drinkin'. The sophomore release Poncho, features songs penned by
both Jeffries and Marcotte but written as a band--tight, distilled. Bad Assets has graced many stages over
the years throughout the Northwest from corporate events to weddings, outdoor festivals, block parties,
line dance clubs and plenty of taverns. I should mention they are all quite good looking, but then again,
"beauty is in the eye of the Beerholder."
