Position Overview
Community Engagement is an integral part of the work of the Disability Royal Commission and forms part of the Commission’s broader Engagement Branch. The Commission’s Community Engagement Section connects people with disability, their families, advocates and the broader community with the Commission, profiling its work and progress through a variety of proactive, planned, externally facing activities.
This includes engagement activities such as Community Information sessions, forums, roundtables and specific, targeted engagement activities to specific cohorts: such as focus groups that draw on people's lived experiences and insights as well as those of stakeholder organisations and the broader community.
The Community Engagement Section has a number of specialized engagement teams including Culturally and Linguistically Diverse and First Nations teams.
Role
The successful intern would be required to provide support and assistance to various Community Engagement Officers across the Section. These tasks range from:
Gneral administrative and organisational support
Assistance with planning of engagement events e.g information sessions, roundtables, focus groups etc
Collation of information to support community engagement events
Collection and collation of data (both qualitative and quantitative)
Assistance with write up, analysis and evaluation of information provided at engagement events

Entry of information into the Commission's information management system
Assisting with stakeholder mapping and community profiling
Interacting with participants attending community engagement activities including government and organizational representatives, people with disability and their families and the broader community
Liaison/collaboration with other areas of the Commission such as policy, counselling and support, legal areas, data team, accessibility team
Participate in relevant training as required
Required/Desired Skills
Well developed organizational and time management skills
Computer skills and familiarity with Word, Excel, database applications
Good interpersonal skills and the ability to engage with a diverse range of people
Basic data analysis, desktop research
Well developed written skills including the ability to draw out key themes and systemic issues
Ability to work collaboratively within and across teams
Creative and analytical/critical thinking
Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment
Understanding of and strong desire to contribute to the work of the Commission
Ideal Degree/Discipline
Social Work (Community Development/planning), Social/Behavioural Science, Law, Education
Eligibility Requirements
Second last or final year of a relevant undergraduate or postgraduate degree
Australian citizens only
Identify as having disability
Candidates may be required to undergo a background check security clearance.
