OC STEM DayOn Tuesday this week we shared the school hall with Tamworth Public’s OC class to do three STEM challenges.
Our first challenge was to ‘Build a bridge that should support a motorised toy car.’ The materials that we were limited to were paper and tape. The task was difficult and only few teams completed the task successfully.
Our second task was to create two paper planes. The materials we used for this task were up to 7 pieces of paper, 4 balloons, 4 paddle pop sticks, 6 straws and 5 rubber bands. We had to create a paper plane out of paper and one out of a combination of paper and the objects provided. The planes were designed to fly as far as possible in a straight line.
The final task was to stack six plastic cups into a cup pyramid without using our hands. The cups had small pieces of string attached to them. We had to carry the cups from one point to another without dragging or holding them with our hands. It was difficult, but most teams got all cups to the other side.
The day was fun with Tamworth Public and it was a great time to interact with other students from across Tamworth.

We RememberOn Sunday I had the pleasure of accompanying our Captains, Mackenna, Chris , Zoe and Owen to the Remembrance Day commemorative service at the Tamworth Town Hall. The captains lay two wreaths paying their respects to the men and women who fought and died in war.
Our vocal group also attended as part of the combined schools choir. All students looked terrific in their uniform, demonstrated exemplary behaviour and were great ambassadors for our school.
Yulunga: Traditional Indigenous Games
Last Friday morning 89 students, approximately 30 parents and staff participated in the Yulunga: Traditional Indigenous Games. The games originated from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies from around Australia. They provide an opportunity for children to learn about, appreciate and experience aspects of Aboriginal culture. The morning was led by Mr Joe Craigie and supported by school staff and parent volunteers. A delicious breakfast consisting of bacon, eggs, fruit platters and juice was prepared and cooked by the SASS staff. Thank you to everyone who assisted on the day. All children were issued with notes and it’s not too late to join in the fun.

Remembrance Day ServiceLast Sunday morning our Vocal Group students
represented Tamworth South Public School by singing in the choir for the Tamworth Rembembrance Day
Service at the Tamworth Memorial Town Hall.
This year marked a very special occasion as it was the 100 anniversary of the end of the First World War.
The Students made their teachers very proud with their respectful behaviour and beautiful singing.
Our school captains laid a wreath on behalf of Tamworth South Public School and two of them also sang in the choir. The choir performed to a packed Town Hall and received many compliments.
Thank you to Mrs Meppem and Mrs Porter who assisted Mrs brown on the day.
Well done students for once again willingly giving your time to mark this very important occassion.
