The MBCA South Florida Section was invited to the Grand Opening of Boca-Star Services and Repair, on September 8th, 2012, located in Boca Raton at 11 a.m. The members arrived and were greeted with friendliness and sincerity. The members of the Road Star converged with us to discover the newest Mercedes-Benz auto repair shop in South Florida, Boca-Star Services and Repairs. Members were given a tour of the Boca-Star location, as well as a very informative tech ses-sion. The tech session covered topics ranging from the right kind of oil to use in your Mercedes-Benz to using the right air filters and explaining the importance of using the correct filters. In addition to the discussion on the different general topics, the owner of Boca-Star, and host, Sam Naimat, hoisted a 2007 E350 onto his brand new lift. I volunteered to have my car inspected.

This year's Annual Meeting was held at Bill Ussery's Mercedes-Benz in Coral Gables, on September 15, 2012. We had a capacity crowd with our Board of Direc-tors in full attendance along with other members, and their guests. The meeting began with David Delgado, the General Manager, welcoming the MBCA South Florida section to their newly renovated facility, then Robert Corso, Sales repre-sentative, covering the various special-ties and announcing the tour guides planned for us after lunch. Afterwards all in attendance introduced themselves.
The announcement was made that three of the Board members, Ken Robinson, Treasurer, Gabriel Gomez and Tunde Robinson, Directors, were retiring after many years of dedicated service to the Club. The meeting continued with the election of the officers for a two year term, Maria J. Rodriguez, President, Michael Chrusch, Vice-President, Saleem ALinur, Treasurer, and Richard Eldridge, Secretary. The existing Directors, Gordon Derman, Ricardo Guaqueta, and Victor Rodriguez are continuing their 2 year term, and the new Directors elected, Tariq Alinur, Marisa Ferreira, Maria Guaqueta, Marc Mosko and Aldo Roselo also will serve a two year term. It was heartrending and exciting as everyone settled after the announcement and elections concluded.

Greetings from the President
Fall is upon us and the year is rapidly passing by. Soon the holidays will be arriving and we will all be busy enjoying festivities with family and friends. At our Club section’s Annual Lunch Meeting, on September 15, 2012, three members retired from the Board of Directors. These three members were presented with the Leadership Award for their many years of dedication, loyalty, extraordinary performance and outstanding support. We want to wish Ken Robinson, Treasurer, Gabriel Gomez and Tunde Robinson, Directors, good luck with their new endeavors. Additionally, new Officers and Directors were elected for a two year term. I would like to welcome each one, and also want to thank the existing Directors for continuing their term. The names and contact information for the Officers and Directors are on page 1 and 6 of
this issue. Together, as a team, we will continue to improve our club section with a variety of ideas, and I encourage all mem-bers to participate in our various events. Our club section has had a busy and entertaining year so far. The year started with: 1. January 21, Redlands Riot Rally, lunch at the Casa Tejas Mexican Restaurant, and the tab was paid by Mercedes-Benz of Cutler Bay; 2. April 14, a Tech Session, with a spread of bagels, Danish and coffee, at Mercedes-Benz of Coconut Creek; 3. May 26, the First Annual Mercedes-Benz Members’ BBQ day, hosted by FARR Auto parts, at one of our member’s warehouse; 4. September 8, a Tech Session at Boca-Star Services and Repairs, treated to gourmet coal-fired pizza and drinks; 5. September 15, the Annual Lunch Meeting, complimentary lunch by our Club section, held at the Mercedes-Benz of Coral Gables, followed by 2 guided tour of the newly renovated facility, and the service department. All these successful events were enjoyed by all. We are now looking forward to the upcoming events: 6. October 13, the Halloween Party, RSVP by October 3, 2012, see page 7 for further information. 7. November 17, the International Auto Show, RSVP by November 12, 2012, see page 7 for further information. 8. December 2, the Holiday Party, RSVP by November 26, 2012, see page 9 for further information. I am hoping to see you all at these events not only to meet you, and hear your stories about your Benz(s) but also to socialize and have a good time. The Board of Directors would like for you to share with them any events that you are interested in, and that you believe would be of interest to the club. All ideas are important so please e-mail them to me at [email protected]. There are many ways in communicating with our Club section’s members. RETIRING BOARD MEMBERS RECEIVED A LEADERSHIP AWARD AT THE ANNUAL MEETING ON SEPTEMBER 15, 2012 - “WE ARE GOING TO MISS YOU AT THE BOARD MEEINGS!!”
Ken Robinson has been a member of the South Florida Section for a number of years, since 1991, serving as Vice-President, President and Treasurer. He has been honored with the Southeast Regional Member of the Year, and the Regional Officer of the Year awards. Ken also served as co-editor with his wife, Tünde, of our newsletter, StarNews, the official publication of the South Florida Section. While they were responsible for StarNews they won several national awards throughout the years. Ken has also taken charge of numerous events and have been involved with them, and with the other members of the club, in whatever capacity, to be most rewarding over many years. A message from Ken: “I urge everyone in the club to reap the advantages of good fellowship by getting involved in the club, either by participating in the events or by volunteering for the board and running an event.”
Tünde Robinson has served as Secretary, Vice-President and President for many years, and during this time she has been a member of the club and has had an active role in the club. Tünde was the principal organizer of many of our most successful events and was a facilitator in many others. She was active at the regional level also and successfully involved our section to participate in events as far away as Georgia, as a result of her collaboration with other leaders. She represented MBCA at the Old Timers Rally in Budapest, Hungary, and maintained contact with that group over the years. In addition to her elected positions, she also was co-editor of StarNews, which
won several national awards and recognition. In addition to Section awards over the years, she was named Officer of the Year for the Southeast Region in 2010. A message from Tunde: “I believe in a strong team that works together, and I was happy to be part of this team. I am confident that the new South Florida leadership will continue to provide interesting activities and events for our members.” Gabriel Gomez joined the club in 1999 by recommendation of our beloved and past President, Ted Pappas, who pass away last year. Since joining Gabriel has been involved in the development and up keeping of activities in our club. He became involved as a Director, Vice-President, President, an Editor of our news-letter, StarNews. The events consisted of organizing, directing and cooperating in the several events from car rallies to street Mercedes-Benz cars exhibitions, poker runs, tech sessions, and dinners. A message from Gabriel: “It has been a great experience being involved in the club’s activities and board meetings. I met a lot of great people and I have acquired many friends throughout these years. Servicing on the board of directors, and participating in the tech sessions, have been enlightening, and I also have learned many things about Mercedes-Benz vehicles. The time has come to open room for the new generation to carry the club’s objectives and goals with their new ideas and leadership and right now this is happening in our club. Fresh new blood is taking the club by a storm and I love it. I see a very dy-namic and energetic board of directors carrying what Mr. Pappas had envisioned the club to be, a very happy, educa-tional, a service place for its members and a fun place to be. I won’t be going away just stepping on the side. I want to thank all the people we shared all of these activities throughout all of these years, all the people who believed in me and helped me to carry on with my duties. Trust me when I say it was fun to do it, and I am glad and lucky to have had the chance to meet a lot of you personally. It was a pleasure to serve in the club. CELEBRATING 55 YEARS AS A MERCEDES-BENZ DEALER Submitted by Denie Harris Mercedes-Benz of Coral Gables is celebrating a big anniversary this fall – 55 years as a dealer of the luxury automotive line that brought German car engineering to the United States.
“Since the time my grandfather estab-lished the company more than five decades ago, our customer philosophy has never changed,” says Robert (Bob) Brockway, chair-man and CEO of the South Florida dealership, and wife Paula, Principal and Vice President. “We follow the golden rule: treat people fairly and honestly in the same way you would want to be treated, and you will have a customer for life.” The company’s tradition of service dates back to 1953, when founder Bill Ussery, and his daughter Patricia, opened the dealership, initially selling used cars and Studebakers. A few years later, Ussery took a chance, added the Mercedes-Benz line in 1957, and never looked back. In fact, Mer-cedes-Benz of Coral Gables, then called Bill Ussery Motors, is one of the oldest Mercedes-Benz dealerships in the U.S. In the 1960s and ‘70s, Mercedes-Benz sales continued to rise, fueled by innovative technology and an unswerving reputation for quality. In fact,
the vehicle’s icon – a three-pointed star – became a brand that portrays luxury, reliability and craftsmanship. Then in 1974 Ussery sold the dealership to his son-in-law John Brockway Sr. – the second generation of family owners. “My father walked from bank to bank, finally securing a loan for $100,000 to maintain the business,” recalls Brockway. Bob Brockway joined the family business in 1986 as vice president and operations manager, and was named president in 1996, taking over active operations.
In 2001, Greg Barnes (on the left) became general manager, and the dealership continued to grow its client base and enhance its services. In 2006, Bob Brockway and wife Paula purchased the dealership from the family outright and Bob assumed the role of Chairman and CEO. Barnes became President and a new general manager, David Delgado, (on the right) was brought on board, with nearly 25 years experience in the car business. Today, Bill Ussery Motors consistently ranks as a top volume Mercedes-Benz dealer in the nation and has been recognized numerous years with the “Best of the Best Award” from Mercedes-Benz USA for outstanding performance and an exceptional customer
experience. A major supporter of South Florida’s civic, charitable and educational institutions, Mercedes-Benz of Coral Gables contributes to more than 50 non-profit organizations each year. Robert Corso is a member of the sales team. He came to Mercedes-Benz of Coral Gables, then called Bill Ussery Motors, in 1977. He just celebrated 35 years with the company.
Having joined the company in 2007, Denie Harris is the marketing director at Bill Ussery Motors Group. She oversees the marketing,
media relations and community relations for Mercedes-Benz of Coral Gables, Mercedes-Benz of Cutler Bay, and Bill Ussery Motor Collision Center.

TECH SESSION—BOCA STAR (cont. from page 1 ) Submitted by Michael Chrusch I was complimented by Sam on how my car, the 2007 E350, was in excellent condition. Of course, this is due to my dedicated care and support I give to my Mercedes-Benz. Sam showed the members from bumper to bumper various parts to be aware and to keep track of for maintenance purposes. More than 25 members enjoyed looking at the undercarriage of the E350.
Thanks for the free inspection Sam!! Throughout the presentation Sam entertained questions and a couple of the other members asked Sam if he could take a look at their cars after the event. At the end of the tech session members were treated to gourmet coal-fired pizza, cold drinks, and good conversation. Members enjoyed their food and drinks while socializing with each other. Everyone enjoyed the tech session, and had a great time, while in the air conditioned facility. A memorable moment has to be saved with a photo so before the members started to leave, we all took a picture in front of Sam’s new repair shop, Boca-Star Services & Repairs. We thank Sam for his generous time and hospitality. We wish Sam the best of luck with Boca-Star and encourage each of our members to visit Boca-Star, and find out for yourselves why Boca Star is sooo special. We are also proud to announce that Sam and his father are two of our newest mem-bers. We look forward to seeing you all at our next event.

ANNUAL LUNCHEON MEETING (cont. from page 1) The meeting continued with the upcoming activities, the enthusiasm of everyone who wanted to participate. The revealing of the MBCA South Florida Sections Club shirts was a success. The sales of these shirts will go towards the Club’s funds for members to enjoy. Requests of writing pieces were made for our newslet-ter, StarNews, website, and the Club’s Facebook page.
Prior to the conclusion of the meeting, Leadership Awards were presented to Ken and Tunde Robinson, members since 1991, and Gabriel Gomez member since 1999. Their roles throughout these years led to the success of the Club today. We will miss you at the Board meetings. Everyone proceeded to a catered lunch, and then to a guided tour by Robert Corso, Sales Representative, and Luis Gutierrez, Service Manager. The tour began with Robert Corso, in the newly renovated showroom, and continued with Luis Gutierrez in the innovated service department. The presenters were well-prepared and the tour of the expanded and modernized dealership was indeed impressive.
The computerization of so many tasks simplified a visit to the “shop” which was one of the first in the country to take on the Marque harking back to the old Studebaker/Packard days. Quite a change! How they store the keys for the customers is quite impressive since it's been common so often for a customer to be in the lounge, in the waiting area (where the main shop is in full view), in the showroom, break room, etc . . . . even if your car is being washed - which is a complimentary perk - and ready to exit it is automatically located, and you can be on your way without standing around waiting while someone “finds” your car.
Pete Quinones (on the left) gave us a demonstration of a really slick SL550 automatically park-ing itself, then wash-ing the windshield without the wayward showers since the fluid is dis-pensed through the wiper blades. Less fluid used, with perfect coverage.
If you're a former visitor you will be impressed! When they sell say, 250 cars in one month, the increased capacity and efficiency will leave you with a feeling of confidence and pride. Everyone provided the MBCA-South Florida with a comprehensive and impres-sive “Tour” which speaks volumes. This is clearly a well-prepared, professional dealership and we know why this is a low-turnover shop with so many staff members having 20, 30 and more years of loyal participation.
