WORSHIP TRUST IN GOD On this final Sunday of Advent our scriptures focus on the historical birth of Jesus, who is son of David and Son of God, child and king, Jesus and Emmanuel. Isaiah the prophet begs Ahaz to ask for a sign, to allow God to offer him reassurance of the survival of the Davidic dynasty. The king hypocritically refuses to “tempt the LORD” in that way (Isaiah 7:12), but the prophet foretells the birth of a son, an heir to the throne, who will prove the Lord’s enduring protection of God’s chosen lineage on the throne of David. The child will be called Emmanuel. Matthew’s reference to this history in his description of the birth of Jesus highlights the contrast between the faithless refusal of trust shown by Ahaz, and the complete trust in God shown by Mary and Joseph in bringing about the birth of Jesus Christ. WEEKLY COLLECTION The collection totals for December 14/15 will be published in next week’s bulletin.

Our deep gratitude to parishioners and visitors for your support to the ongoing work of Christ at St. Matthias.

OUR NEW CHURCH The Building Committee is now working with the Architect to put the finishing touches on the plans and with the construction company to get

the contract in place. We will also be submitting the building permit application to the City of Magnolia shortly. Assuming all goes well in these areas, we anticipate that Westfall Construction will start work on our site in February or March. They expect the project to take 18-19 months depending on the weather.

While we did meet our financial goals for our campaign, thanks to the generous support of many parishioners, our parish will be taking on a monthly payment of about $ 35,000 for the new church. If you are still making payments on a pledge, please continue to do so until fulfilled. Any additional gifts to our campaign will also be appreciated. If you would like to sponsor an element of our new church, we have an updated list of items that are available in the narthex. The requested donations for items range from $2,500 to $100,000. Please contact the parish office for more information.

Please pray for the continue success of our new church project.

Contact our campaign team through Tom Condon at 281-382-8097 for more information about the campaign or Jerry Strenk at 936-449-6686 with Building Committee questions.

CHRISTMAS A young mother, her eyes shining with fatigue, who is arranging her hair; a father who finds himself alone with his pretty wife and baby, straightening the stable to make himself useful in some way; shepherds who bring cheese and perhaps also some curdled milk; sheep who look at their shepherds while bleating; a donkey who is eyeing his manger changed into a cradle; an adorable swaddled baby whom one calls Savior, Christ and Lord: This is the manifestation of the goodness and the tenderness of God. This is the most fantastic birth in the history of humanity, the one which changed the face of the world! This is how far God humbled and compromised himself with us! This is Emmanuel! —From God’s Word Is Our Joy, Vol. 1 by Lucien Deiss, CSSp, copyright © 1998, World Library Publications. p. 73
