Greetings and Salutations,
In today’s Gospel Jesus uses a parable about gardening to
teach us a lesson in God’s kindness and patience. What is the
good fruit that you produce?
I would just like to send out a big THANK YOU to our
wonderful Catechist’s and our wonderful Education
Commission. Here at St. Mary, COOJ we have such
dedicated teachers to plant the seeds of our Catholic Faith
and traditions. God Bless you for all you do!
We are in week 9 of our 12-week study on “The Bible and the
Virgin Mary.” This has been a great study and we are grateful
for the 30 participants. We will take a break for Easter and be
planning our next study.
Please keep our First Communion, Confirmation, and RCIA
Candidates, in your prayers this week.
Faith Formation dates to remember…
April 12 Soup/Bread Supper and Stations of the Cross
presented by Faith Formation students and Catechist’s.
April 13 First Communion Retreat 10:30am-12:30pm.
April 14 Easter Egg Hunt 1:30 – 3:00pm. Bring a friend for
some bunny fun!!!
Have a great week everyone and remember…
What do you call a dinosaur that is sleeping?
A Dino-snore!
Why wouldn’t the duck go to the duck doctor?
Because he was a quack! Ahhhh hahahahaha!
Lenten Blessings,
Sabrina Queen
Queen’s Quotes from
Religious Formation
From the Pastor’s Desk
I am sure that most of you were surprised by
my announcement at Mass last weekend. In
case you didn’t hear it, or didn’t fully
understand, I will repeat it here with some
additions.
At the recent PIME Assembly in the USA, I
was elected as the Regional Superior. This is
the same job that I held before I came to St.
Mary, Cause of Our Joy in 2016. It is a full
time job. It was a surprise and shock to me, as
I’m sure it was to all of you. I had planned to
stay here as pastor for as long as I could. I know
that the parish needed stability from the pastor.
My term begins on April 1 and is for four years.
I will remain as pastor here until June 30, while
the Archdiocese begins its search for a new
pastor. On last Sunday afternoon, March 17, an
email went out from the Archdiocese to all
priests listing the parishes that are looking for a
pastor. St. Mary, Cause of Our Joy was one of
the three listed.
In addition, due to my new position, I will have
to attend the PIME General Assembly
(commonly called “Chapter”) in Rome from
April 24 – May 24. During that time, other
PIME priests in the Detroit area will be
assisting for liturgies in the parish. So
basically, I will be here from now until just
after Easter, and then again from the end of
May until June 30.
This was not something that I expected nor did
I look for it. I feel that we have built a strong
parish community in these past three years, and
ask you to continue to support the new pastor as
much as you supported me. We have a great
leadership team and staff that will continue to
make sure that the parish moves forward.
This position entails many facets: Relating with
the PIME priests here in the United States and
with the Bishops where we minister, overseeing
the mission center in Detroit where we do
fundraising and promotion, keeping up to date
on the latest trends and issues of the American
Church (which includes the current abuse
scandal). Our headquarters is presently in
Detroit, near the University of Detroit Mercy,
just north of 6 Mile Road near Livernois. That
building is too large for our present needs and a
move in the future in probable.
Please continue to pray for our parish,
especially during this transition period, and the
new pastor. I promise my prayers as well. I ask
that you pray for me and for PIME as well.
Fr. Ken

JUNE JAMBOREE COMMITTEE
Needs YOUR Help!!
It is that time of year again! Time to start thinking about our annual
JUNE JAMBOREE! With your help, last year we put together some
great Big Bucket raffles. We are hoping to do it again this year.
Our most popular (most tickets sold) Big Bucket raffle was the gift card
bucket and the second most popular was the booze bucket. The June
Jamboree made $16,000 last year and the proceeds are going towards a
new digital sign in front of our church. Let’s see if we can make it
happen again! Thank you in advance!!
We would like to put the following items together for the raffle buckets
for this years June Jamboree -
Bottles of Liquor (unopened)
Gift Cards (unused)
Scratch off Lottery Tickets
If you are able to help with these items, please drop them off in the
Parish Office or give them to Paul in the Gathering Area after Mass.
On the Third Sunday in Lent, those
receiving the Sacraments of Baptism,
Confirmation and Eucharist at the Easter
Vigil celebrate the First Scrutiny -
prayers and blessings on their final leg of
the journey to the waters of Baptism. We
also formally present them with the
Nicene Creed as a statement of our belief
as a professing community.
