The theme for this year’s Bishop Appeal is “Sharing the Light of Christ”. Within the Bishop’s Appeal is a category known as the “Crozier Society”, a crozier is the shepherd’s staff that a bishop carries. Membership comes with a donation of $500 or more. If possible, I would ask that you prayerfully consider becoming a member. Your generosity helps the Diocese promote Catholic education and formation, counsel the troubled, provide adoption assistance, activities at Camp Tekakwitha for our youth, and assist parishes in their administrative tasks and so much more. Whether you consider an increase in giving or not, please accept my thanks for whatever you can give. Our goal for the 2014 Bishop’s Appeal is $69,375. As a member of the Crozier Society join with me and “Share the Light of Christ”. The Feast of St. Katharine Drexel is Monday, March 3, but we will be celebrating it on Sunday March 2 after the 10:30 AM Mass at St. Mary. There will be cookies, cake, juice, coffee and the drawing. The funds raised from this raffle will help to cover budg-eted expenses. To help us prepare for this feast day there is a bulletin insert in this bulletin that contains the Saint Katharine Drexel No-vena. This novena begins on February 22 and ends on March 2. Join with me and other members of our parish and even St. Katherine Drexel as we reflect more deeply on our communion with God and one another. The next Christ Renews His Parish weekends are set so check your calendar and prayerfully consider attending. The men’s weekend will be March 22-23 and the women’s weekend will be April 12-13. This is a great opportunity to renew one’s faith and have some fun at the same time. Come and make new friendships and enjoy some great food. The CD of the month is “The Joy of Stewardship” by Fr. John Lanzrath. There is a limited number and they will be availa-ble in the back of churches. Take one and listen to it and share it with others or bring it back for others to listen to. The Featured Ministry of the Week is the Church Cleaners: St. Aloysius Church: Currently consists of 55 people. Each person is on 1or 2 times per year. They clean the church on Saturday from 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM. The duties involve vacuuming, dusting, and washing windows and doors at the entrances. Contact person is Jan Biselx 766-9139. I invite you to pray for those involved in this ministry and prayerfully consider joining this ministry. I invite you to collect all the ministries featured in the bulletin over the month, and then send them to me with the ministries listed, your full name, phone number, and mailing address. The dead line for those featured in February (Feb.1 – Feb. 23) is Mar. 2. The bulletins can also be found on our website www.skdchurch.org. You can mail them to me at the parish office or e-mail me at [email protected]. You will be en-tered in a drawing for a $25 scrip gift certificate. Together let us advance the mission of Jesus through faith-filled prayer, service to my neighbor, and generous sharing. Congratulations to Donna Vanden Heuvel, who won in the month of January. In the back of our churches there is material that is free. This material provides a variety of information and opportunities to help us grow in our faith. I would like to invite you to check it out. One of the pamphlets is entitled “How to Make a Good Confes-sion”. Check it out. Matthew: The King and His Kingdom, is a video study featuring Jeff Cavins a renowned Catholic Bible teacher. This bible study will take place on Thursday at 1:00 PM at St. Mary (Social Hall) and Thursday at 6:30 PM at St. Aloysius (Upper Lounge). Both sessions contain the same information. Contact Fr. Jerry 766-1445. Feb. 27 Matthew 24-25 Jesus Predicts the End of an Era Mar. 6 Matthew 26 The Trial of the Christ

Peace, Fr. Jerry

Please keep in your prayers the families of Norbert Dietzen, Cyril Klister, Bernard Tennessen, and John Arnoldussen. As we pray for their souls and the souls of the faithful departed, may they rest in peace. A cross with Norbert’s, Cyril’s, Bernard’s, and

John’s name will hang at St. Al’s Church until our All Soul’s Memo-rial service in November 2014.

Black History Month This might be a good time to learn a little about some of our African saints. One is the son of a saint. He was born in an area now known as Algeria. Raised a Christian, he lived a

dissolute life, later reformed and became of the great theologians of the church. This saint was born a slave near Messina, Italy. After being freed, he became a hermit and later a Franciscan lay brother and a cook. Unable to read or write he became the superior of the convent where he worked, but in later life asked to be allowed to return to being a cook. He was known for his holiness and miracles. The young woman was born to a family of means in Dafur but was kidnapped by Arab slave traders, She was sold many times and forced to convert to Islam. After 29 years she was awarded her freedom. She was known for her gentleness, a calming voice and ever pleasant voice. She was canonized in 1947. Use Google to identify St. Benedict the Moor, St. Josephine Bakhita, St. Augustine of Hippo.

Volunteers Needed We have been asked to provide meals, servers and over-night hospitality volunteers again this year. The need is great as they have been close to capacity since September. This will be the 4th year of participating at their shelter in Appleton. The shelter provides overnight temporary housing to homeless adult men and women who do not qualify for any other shelter. Volun-teers are needed to provide meals, serve meals and with the hospitality assisting the paid staff. The meal is served at approxi-mately 6:00 pm. The hospitality shifts are 8 pm to Midnight and 4 am to 8 am. We sincerely appreciate those who volunteered last year and hope we can count on more of our parishioners to give us a hand this year. In addition to the meals we need four to five servers each day and ideally two to four overnight hospitali-ty workers – two on each shift. Please contact a member of the Kaukauna Catholic Social Concerns Ministry to volunteer or sign up in the back of church at all of our sites. NURSE’S NOTES: I’ve received several calls about our SKD Walking Club. We meet on Mondays at 1:15 to 2:15 PM and/or on Wednesday mornings from 10-11 AM. We walk in the social hall, hallways and cafeteria at the St. Mary’s site. This will continue through the end of March. Hopefully by then the sidewalks will be free of ice and snow. I am there on Mondays to take your blood pressure and answer questions about blood pres-sure medication. Most Wednesdays I am not available. How many do we have? Sometimes there may be six and other times we’ve had up to 28 walkers. Come check us out and join us!
