Say to all faint hearts, ‘Courage! Do not be afraid. ‘Look, your God is coming, vengeance is coming, the ret-ribution of God; he is coming to save you.’ Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, the ears of the deaf unsealed, then the lame shall leap like a deer and the tongues of the dumb sing for joy; for water gushes in the desert, streams in the wasteland, the scorched earth becomes a lake, the parched land springs of water.

PASTORAL CORNER

Today’s Gospel story is a miracle of liberation as one man is set free to hear and pro-

claim the mercy of God. Jesus’ mission is to be of service to all, the handicapped and

disabled he welcomes – no one is rejected because of their difference. We are en-

couraged to be open to the influence and needs of all as well – there is no place for

prejudice. We must take people as we find them, God’s people, and God has touched

each one. There are other forms of deafness; we can refuse to listen to what Jesus

wants us to hear; we can be so tied up in our own world and how busy we are, that

we can neglect to hear what people say to us. Is Jesus calling us to bless others with

our full attention?

What new possibilities might open up to us as we meet and hear the words Jesus has

for us? What comfortable aspects of our life might we need to relinquish, or what new

demands might be made on us?

Spend time this week being attentive to the way we use gestures and touch – either to

include or exclude others.

First Holy Communion at St Emilie’s This weekend we are welcoming the last group of our Parish families whose children are making the Sacra-

It is all about relationships, faith, hope, and love!

Happy Father’s Day Fathers are not born but made. A man does not become a father simply by bring-

ing a child into the world, but by caring for that child. Whenever a man accepts

responsibility for the life of another, in some way he becomes a father to that per-

son. On this Father’s Day let us celebrate the importance of fathers and express

with all our hearts our love and admiration for them.

Father’s Day Prayer Heavenly Father,

you entrusted your Son Jesus, the child of Mary,

to the care of Joseph, an earthly father. Bless all fathers

as they care for their families. Give them strength and wisdom,

tenderness and patience; support them in the work they have to do,

protecting those who look to them, as we look to you for love and salvation,

through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Safeguarding Program The Parish of Canning Vale and the Archdiocese of Perth are committed to the care, wellbeing and protection of children, young people and people at risk in our community. May our message be that child protection and the dignity of every person is the responsibility of every adult. You can find out more about the Church’s work in this area at: www.catholic.org.au/
