We are in the early weeks of the Jubilee Year of Mercy called by the Holy Father. The Jubilee Year will last until November 28th next year. Pope Francis has described this year as a “favorable time to heal wounds.” At the same time, we have begun “On Mission for The Church Alive!” The goal of “On Mission” is to help our parishes become even more vibrant communities of service. What social outreach to the community can our parish do that it is not doing now?

FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT
A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE
BY BUD OZAR Mary was excited about her first pregnancy and rushed to tell her cousin. Sadly children are often seen as a liability, “another mouth to feed” or an “obstacle to my career.” It is said “Christmas is for children.” It is more accurate to say “Christmas is for adults to appreciate the gift of children!”

FROM THE PASTOR
MERRY CHRISTMAS! The Christmas message still astonishes, turning the world upside-down: • While we are preoccupied with a nostalgic past, dreaming of white Christmases and old-timey
holidays, the angels announce a new future—the reversal of the world’s decline, the promise of redemption, new health, eternal life.
• While we debate global policies and promote our preferred politicians, the last and lasting King has taken up his throne—in a manger among the animals, in a small suburb, in a backwater province of the empire.
• While we busily reject humanity—killing the unborn, euthanizing the disabled and the elderly, guarding ourselves from immigrants, punishing the guilty at home and abroad—the Lord God Almighty becomes man, embracing our humanity.
The joke’s on us: While we scrambled to make ourselves like gods, “the Word became flesh and lived among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who comes from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

Please also note:
The Carnegie Community Choir performs a Christmas Concert Sunday, December 20, at 4:00 p.m. here at SEAS.
Bishop William Winter & several priests will be available for individual confession & absolution at our Advent Penance Service on Monday, December 21, at 7:00 p.m.
The Christmas Charities are the beneficiaries of the second collection on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Giving to these charities is like giving to the Parish Share Program—the best and most efficient way to give to the parish, as well.
The annual parish financial report is printed on the next page.
Notecards—suitable as thank-you notes!—with parish images are available in Holy Family Hall at $20 for a pack of 20, with self-sealing envelopes. SEAS Parish encourages donors to switch from offertory envelopes to electronic giving—a
monthly debit to your checking or credit card account. It’s safer, cheaper, easier, more reliable, and friendlier to the environment. You can sign up at www.faithdirect.net using parish code PA591, or ask for a paper application. To make a one-time gift via smart phone, use the QR code at left.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION We DO have class this Monday, December 22, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (as usual). Classes will resume after the Christmas break on January 4. ALSO: A wise friend of mine wrote something this week on Facebook that I believe is worth sharing. As the season of Advent comes to a close, her thoughts provide a medicine that may help anyone who is struggling mentally, physically, financially, or in any other way. Perhaps you can share her words with someone you love. —Mary Kay Smith From Megan: I wasn’t going to write today as it has been an awful day – ending with me in a hotel room away on a business trip for the week. Anyone who knows me knows how far out of my comfort zone this is. But I had a 5 hour drive to think about Advent and it occurs to me that riding on a camel to a city far away – in her 3rd trimester – was probably pretty far out of Mary’s comfort zone too. Just because we are followers of Christ does not in any way mean that our path will be easy or free from trials. It wasn’t that way for any of the great Saints we read about. The idea is that we trust that our God has a purpose in the trial. And more important for us – that He is with us in the trial. Sometimes His greatest blessing are born and birthed in the midst of the greatest storm. Usually we can’t see it because we are too busy fighting to get free from it. But eventually the clouds do break and we end up on the other side. Hopefully with renewed strength of character and coming out more like Christ than we were before. I pray that like Mary I will have courage in my trials to say…. “but I offer all I am – for the mercy of Your plan – Help me be strong – Help me.”

SEAS EVANGELIZES
We will return to Kevin Cotter's list soon, but consider this a Christmas break.
Enjoy Pope Francis' Christmas message from Christmas, 2014, and think: HOSPITALITY...EVANGELIZATION...BROTHERLY LOVE...
Dear Brothers and Sisters, Merry Christmas! Jesus, the Son of God, the Saviour of the world, is born for us, born in Bethlehem of a Virgin, fulfilling the ancient prophecies. The Virgin’s name is Mary, the wife of Joseph.
Humble people, full of hope in the goodness of God, are those who welcome Jesus and recognize him. And so the Holy Spirit enlightened the shepherds of Bethlehem, who
hastened to the grotto and adored the Child. Then the Spirit led the elderly and humble couple Simeon and Anna into the temple of Jerusalem, and they recognized in Jesus the Messiah. “My eyes have seen your salvation”, Simeon exclaimed, “the salvation prepared
by God in the sight of all peoples” (Lk 2:30). Yes, brothers and sisters, Jesus is the salvation for every person and for every people!
- Pope Francis, Dec 25, 2014
Now, let's try a little Christmas exercise: when in Church this coming week for
Christmas Mass, imagine who you might be representing as an adorer at the Bethlehem stable...one of the Wise men?...or one of the Three Kings?... Now,
think about the person whom you've never before seen in church - you know, the one taking 'your' seat, or the one sitting in the narthex because they didn't arrive
early enough to be in a pew - who might they be representing?...the shepherd
boy?...one of the angels, perhaps? This Glorious Drama, this Good GREAT News, is for them, just as it is for us! It is the Lord Jesus, who comes to us as a child in
a manger, who is the Common Denominator for all of us. He comes to unite...let us do the same!

CONSOLING THE HEART OF JESUS A PRE-LENTEN/LENTEN RETREAT TO BE HELD ON 10 TUESDAY EVENINGS ~7:00-8:30 P.M.~ HERE AT SEAS
BEGINNING JANUARY12, 2016
Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC, author of the renowned “33 Days To Morning Glory” Marian Consecration program offers another great ‘retreat’. This retreat is in the form of a 10-week dvd/faith-sharing program that brings together several spiritual traditions and blends them in the pattern of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. We will find inspiration in the quotations from the saints that Fr. Michael gathers carefully, and in his deep, but humble, understanding of the principles of holiness that they proclaim. This is a great way for souls to live the Holy Year of Mercy, and a wonderful way to prepare for, and go through Lent, 2016! If you are interested: register by giving your name, phone number and email address to our receptionist at 412-
276-1011 ext. 210 stop by the parish office to purchase your book (Mon-Fri 8:30-4:30) for $5; there is no
required reading before the 1st Session. [Please purchase your book in advance, so that we know whether we need to order more than our initial supply!]
come to the 1st Session on Tuesday, January 12th at 7:00 pm. NOTE: Registration is very important in case of a weather cancellation! Also, your registration helps us to determine how many will be in attendance, so that we can determine our SEAS meeting space. This retreat will not be held without a minimum of 5 participants. The more, the merrier! Come one, come all!

This is a challenge to live bold and set apart from the celebration of immorality all around us. SRT defies the meet-up, hook-up, break-up mindset of today and inspires students to a pure life centered in Jesus Christ. This 2 hour stage performance incorporates high energy music, videos, skits, special affects, and comedy delivered in a concert-style approach with which teenagers can respond and relate. The event is presented by a team of peer-level students serving as role models and examples of the power and freedom in living out this calling.
