From Our Pastor The R.C.I.A. Rite of Election, an annual liturgical celebration is one of the most significant evangelization events of the liturgical year in any diocese. Catechumens (the unbaptized) and Candidates (already baptized and on the journey to full communion with the Catholic Church) come to bear witness to their growing faith and their commitment to Christ and the Church. They come together, in the presence of the Bishop for the first time, to declare their intentions and their commitment to receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist, or to be joined fully to the Church. They come

to experience an added sense of belonging to a larger, universal church and to celebrate with others, their journey of faith. In the past, due to the large number of those becoming Catholic here our diocese, the Rite of Election has occurred at two different ceremonies held at the Cathedral of St. Thomas More. This year, Bishop Burbidge has chosen to hold one of those ceremonies here at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. I am so pleased to welcome our Bishop along with sixteen other parishes that will participate in the Rite of Election this weekend at 2:30pm on Sunday, February 25th. Due to the large number of attendees only those involved with the ceremony are able to attend; but I do ask that everyone who is a part of the SEAS family to keep all of the Catechumens and Candidates that will visit us in your prayers. Additionally, I would like to express my deep gratitude to our “stellar-staff” and numerous volunteers who have been working behind the scenes to make our guests welcomed.

The R.C.I.A. encompasses such a graced time and opportunity for those wishing to become Catholic to come to know and experience the Church and our faith in new and deeper ways. For those of us who are already Catholic, we have several wonderful opportunities to share in that experience as our Faith Foundation Classes resume with the Lenten series beginning on March 1st. Classes meet Thursday evenings in the Sts. Peter and Paul rooms from 7:30pm-8:30pm. These catechism based classes require no registration and there is no fee. Each class is independent, so one need not attend all three classes. The schedule for March is as follows:

March 1st: The RCIA; March 8th: The Creed; March 15th: The Four Marks of the Church

The Post-Easter Series: April 12th: Covenant; April 19th: Religious Orders and their Founders; April 26th: Prayer

May we all, as scripture describes of our Lord, strive to “grow in wisdom and grace before God and Man” (Luke 2:52), so as to look forward to the (eternal) “city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.” (Hebrews 11:10). Christ’s grace and Lenten blessings to all ~ Fr. Bashista

Weekly Reflection:

This is my beloved Son. Listen to him. Often it can seem as if our faith is being tested. We can be asked, like Abraham, how much we are willing to sacrifice in obedience to God's call. Abraham appeared willing to sacrifice his most precious gift, his son, Isaac. Abraham went so far as to take the knife with which he could have ended his son's life. But God did not ask that of him. God asked only that he be willing and that he continue to listen. In Mark, it is the disciples who are tested to understand the vision that they are given of Jesus, visibly transformed from an ordinary man like themselves to beloved Son of God. Peter, impulsive Peter, speaks and plans an action. He is rebuked and told to listen. The test is not about action. The test is to listen. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.,

Come to a SEAS Crafters meeting—you don’t have to be an expert—we have all levels of expertise. Meetings are Mondays from 10:00am-12:00pm in Lower Seton Hall (follow walkway on the right hand side of the building). Questions? Spring Blood Drive

The Knights of Columbus is sponsoring the Spring Blood Drive on Saturday, March 17th at Upper Seton Hall. Please mark your calendar, roll up your sleeve, and donate at this important life saving event.

I would like to thank the Seton Crafters of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church for the kind gesture to our Puerto Rican brothers of the San Miguel Arcangel Church of Cabo Rojo. In these days of pain and sorrow, but at the same time full of hope; we have seen God’s prominent hand, through you.

May the Good Lord bestow many blessings for the help that you have provided us.

P. Wilson Montes Rodriquez Pastor

We appreciate the nice show of brotherhood your community had with our brothers and sisters here at Parish Nuestra Senora de la Asuncion (Cayey, Puerto Rico) who were affected by the past hurricanes. Ten families were selected and were given $150 each. I cannot tell you the happiness they felt in this time of crisis we are going through.

May God give you back health and happiness.

Rev. Jose Antonio De Leon De Jesus Pastor

Many Thanks! On behalf of our Franciscan missionaries and the people we serve throughout the world, thank you for sending in your donation of stamps. Our prayerful thanks to all the parishioners at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Your gift of love will benefit the less fortunate in so many ways. Sincerely in Christ, Bro. Andrew Brophy, OFM Executive Director
