August 7, 2016 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time “For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.” -Luke 12:34 Jesus encourages us to build up our treasure in heav-en. The world encourages us to build up our treasure in real estate, investments, and material goods. How much time are you investing in building up a worldly treasure? How much time are you investing in build-ing up a heavenly treasure? To invest more time in the things of heaven, you must let go of some of the things of this world. Our bodies work so hard every day--are we accomplishing what God is calling us to do or do we put our own priorities first? YOUR BODIES' WORKING DAY If you are an adult of average weight, here is what you accomplish in 24 hours: Your heart beats 103,689 times; Your blood travels 168,000,000 miles; You breathe 23,040 times; You inhale 438 cubic feet of air; You eat 3 and 1/4 pounds of food; You drink 2.9 quarts of liquids; you lose 7/8 pounds of waste; You speak 4,800 words, including some unnecessary ones; You move 750 muscles; Your nails grow .000046 of an inch; Your hair grows .01714 inch of an inch; You exercise 7,000,000 brain cells. Feel tired? How much of this energy went into living God's way? (adapted from :Encyclopedia of 7700 illustrations)

Adult Question of the Week HOW MANY TIMES CAN I RECEIVE HOLY COMMUNION IN ONE DAY?

ANSWER: Twice on the same day only within a Eucharistic cele-bration( Mass) in which the person participates. If a Catholic goes to a morning Mass and receives Holy Communion, he/she can attend another Mass and re-ceive a second time. This prevents people from culti-vating a numerical or quantitative theology, which the Church vehemently opposes. One of the six precepts of the Church is that Catholics are expected to receive Holy Communion at least once during the Easter sea-son, if not more often

BE NOT DECEIVED Do not be disturbed by the clamor of this world, which passes like a shadow. Do not let the false de-lights of a deceptive world deceive you. —St. Clare

YOUTH QUESTION FOR THE WEEK

WHO WERE JESUS’PARENTS?

ANSWER: Jesus only had one human parent, His mother, Mary. Her husband, Joseph, was not the biological father of Jesus as it was God, the Holy Spirit, who enabled the Virgin Mary to conceive without the cooperation of a human male. This is why Jesus is called the Son of God and the Son of Mary.

**Ave Marie Shop**

(St. Boniface Gift Store) Needs Your Help!

We have decided that after being open for 3 years it was time to give the St. Boniface Gift Store a proper name, Ave Maria Shop. This little shop opened in 2013 to provide a selection of Catholic religious and gift items in Effingham; thereby less-ening the need to drive to Savannah. The shop is run by parishioners for parishioners. The shop offers Bibles, books, Crucifixes, medals, religious themed gifts, and much more! We stock the shop by shopping sales, vintage stores (a.k.a. “thrift stores”) and accepting parishioner new/re-sale donations. To make the shop available to more parishioners we would like it to be open for 30 minutes following Saturday 5:30 PM Mass and following all Sunday Masses, and on Wednesday mornings following the 8:30 AM Mass until 11:00 AM. To make this possible we are in need of pa-rishioners to serve the church by working in the shop. Training will be provided. If you would like to volunteer your talent in the shop please call or email Cindy Felipe 912-596-4251/[email protected].
