Food insecurity and senior citizens The Office for Social Justice Ministry shared this information: the

St. Vincent de Paul Society’s Voice of the Poor has reported that

“approximately 50% of eligible senior citizens do not take

advantage of their rightful FoodShare benefits…” Please call

877-366-3635 or visit access.wisconsin.gov to see if you qualify.

Vincentian Awareness Month A Vincentian heart is a heart on fire to serve the

mission of Christ. During this special month of

showing appreciation for volunteers, we recognize

the members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society of

Milwaukee. A ‘super volunteer’ of his time, Frederic

Ozanam, and six companions, founded the Society in

1833. Blessed Frederic’s vison was “to establish a

network of charity and social justice to circle the

world.” His vision reached the United States in 1845

and today there are over 120 well-established

St. Vincent de Paul groups in the Milwaukee

Archdiocese. We are deeply grateful for our St.

Vincent de Paul conference members who readily

show Christ’s love to people experiencing poverty,

suffering, and need. In this turbulent time of the

COVID-19 pandemic, they reliably move into action

to relieve distress in our community. They bring

hope to situations that seem impossible, and they

remain faithful to their purpose because they see

the face of Christ in others. In this challenging time

of great need, do you feel a call to grow as a leader

by helping the least privileged in society grow as

healthier, freer, more self-sufficient persons?

Learn more about the Vincentian impact by

contacting Rosemary Storts at 262-366-4368.

All Souls tributes Our parishes will again be making special online photo tributes

for those loved ones who our parishioners would like to

remember this year. If you would like to have your loved one’s

photo included in this tribute, please bring a photo to your parish

office during business hours, or preferably, e-mail it to Theresa at

StB or Margaret at OLGH by October 22.

We will upload the photo tributes to our websites and Facebook

pages after All Souls.

OLGH volunteers needed OLGH is looking for ushers and for someone to

monitor Zoom at the 4:00PM Mass on Saturdays.

Please call the parish office for more details,

Catholic Q&A Question: Are Catholics allowed to visit psychics?

Why or why not?

Answer: It’s part of human nature to experience some sense of

unease and fear about the future. This can lead some people to

seek out the services of psychics or consult horoscopes or turn to

other occult practices or resources (e.g., Ouija boards or tarot

cards). The Catechism of the Catholic Church is very clear that

Catholics should avoid such practices: “Consulting horoscopes,

astrology, palm reading, interpretation of omens and lots, the

phenomena of clairvoyance, and recourse to mediums all conceal

a desire for power over time, history, and, in the last analysis,

other human beings, as well as a wish to conciliate hidden powers.

They contradict the honor, respect, and loving fear that we owe to

God alone” (no. 2116).

Despite the uncertainties we might feel, we are called to have faith

and trust in God, confident of God’s desire for what is best for us.

This means that we are called to surrender, to pray, and to reflect

on how we can best move into the future in hope, knowing that God

is with us. ©LPi

Good stewards must not argue about who is

the most important. Today’s Gospel says clearly

that those who aspire to greatness must humbly

serve the needs of all. Even Jesus came not

to be served, but to serve.

Visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help Join Most Reverend James Schuerman, auxiliary bishop of

Milwaukee, on a pilgrimage day trip to the National Shrine of Our

Lady of Good Help in Champion, Wisconsin, on Saturday, November 6.

The tour bus will leave the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist at

8:30AM. At the shrine, opportunities abound for prayer, recitation of

the Rosary, confession, and guided tours. A private Mass for our

group, led by Bishop Schuerman, will be held in the chapel located

above the oratory. A box lunch is included in the cost of $74 per

person. For reservations and information, contact Amy Nikolai at

414-276-9814, ext. 306, or [email protected].

Priesthood vocation meet & greets Some men mistakenly assume priesthood is not an

option because they have been married, have

children, lack a college degree, or think they are

“too old” or “not good enough.” Sacred Heart

Seminary and School of Theology has been forming

men over age 30 since 1970, and is hosting Zoom

“Meet & Greets” for anyone who might want to learn

more. Join one of our informal conversations at

www.shsst.edu/vocation. Contact Deacon Steve

Kramer for more information, [email protected]

or 414-858-4767.
