Improve your health and fitness! Work with our certified, friendly and knowledgeable Personal Trainers to help you set reasonable short and long-term goals. Our Personal Trainers will help you build an exercise program that meets your individual needs. We will help find the Y Trainer that is right for you!

The Northside Y is a 4,400 square foot Wellness Centre located in Willie O’Ree Place. It is a private fitness centre featuring treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, recumbent bikes, arc trainers, a range of free weights and STRIVE brand weight machines.

Wellness Centre ConsultationDuring this one-hour orientation to our Wellness Centre, a Personal Trainer will introduce you to our basic equipment as well as answer any questions you have about gym etiquette and how to use equipment safely and effectively.

Early Years Swim (0 – 5 yrs.)Mon – Fri 10:30 – 11:15 a.m.This program is for young children and parents to spend quality time during free play in the leisure pool.

Family Swim (All Ages)Children under 6 must have an adult in the water. Youth 6 - 12 yrs must have a parent or guardian on the pool deck. Pool toys and personal flotation devices are available.

AquaFit *Swimming skills not required.An excellent high resistance workout while minimizing impact on joints. Ideal for beginners, advanced fitness levels and older adults.

AquaStretch *Swimming skills not required.Physical conditioning in warm water for people with joint issues. Emphasis is on stretching and muscle toning to improve and retain range of motion. Pool depth is: 3’8”.

Lane SwimIncrease your endurance and cardiovascular fitness at your own pace. Lanes are divided by speed.

Adult Leisure SwimOpen to adults for casual swimming, exercising in place or stretching in the warm therapy pool. Pool depth is: 3’8”.

Restorative SwimAdults will enjoy swimming, exercising in place or stretching in the warm therapy pool. Pool depth is: 3’8”.

Adapted AquaticsA fun warm-water swim for adults who require accommodations. Please call 462-3000 for more info.

Deep Water SwimAdults will enjoy swimming and exercising in place in the warm therapy pool. Pool depth is: 5’6”.

Chair Yoga For those who want to practice yoga but find it difficult to get up and down off of the floor.

Circuit (Beginner – Advanced)For those who want a full body workout. You will be using various pieces of equipment and work at your own pace!

Cycle-Fit (Beginner – Advanced)Experience spinning through various terrains. (50 min.)

Drop-In Basketball (Guest cost: $5 +HST)Join a friendly game of hoops two nights a week. Teams are made up each night and are self-refereed by the participants.

Gym Tots (9 mo. – 5 yrs) Mon – Thurs 10:30 – 11:30 a.m., Sat 12:45 – 1:45 p.m., Sun 11:30 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. Indoor physical activity structure that will keep your child smiling and active!

Dance PartyFree style, self led, dance party for all skill levels. Get fit and have fun!

Gentle fit (Beginner)Exercise in and out of a chair to help increase your strength, flexibility and balance. This class is for those who need a gentle approach to exercise!

Group Active (Beginner – Intermediate)Incorporate all elements of fitness: increase your cardio, build strength and improve flexibility.

Group Blast (Intermediate – Advanced)60 minute cardio training that uses steps to improve your fitness, agility, coordination and strength, all while listening to GREAT music.

Group Centergy (Intermediate – Advanced)Grow leaner and stronger as you mix Yoga and Pilates. Center your energy and reduce stress!

Group Core (Intermediate – Advanced)Work your shoulders to your hips during thisfunctional program using body weight, plates, towels and a step. All in 30 minutes!

Group Ride (Beginner – Advanced)Burn calories as you spin your way through rough terrain during this high intensity ride!

Line Dancing (Beginner +) (Guest cost: $5 +HST)No experience or partner needed! Have fun and get a great physical and mental boost while dancing to Country, Pop and Old time Rock & Roll!

Parents & Baby Cardio Time Your little one can join you in the Wellness Centre while safely secured into their infant seat.

Family & Youth Open Gym (Grade K – 8)Sat 5:00 – 6:00 p.m.Open gym time for parents and children. Youth over 12 years of age are welcome unsupervised!

P90X Live! (Intermediate – Advanced)This is a strength training and cardio class that will give you a full body workout through strength exercises, cardio drills and core work! Go at your own pace!

Qi Gong (Beginner – Advanced)Pronounced Chi Kung, this is an ancient exercise system from China, a simplified form of Tai Chi with an emphasis on gentle movement, breath and relaxation.

Stability Ball (Beginner – Intermediate)You will improve your posture, flexibility and strength with the use of stability and bender balls, as well as resistance bands.

Strength & Conditioning (Intermediate – Advanced)Challenge yourself and your body with functional fitness and strength exercises!

Strong by ZumbaCombines body weight, muscle conditioning, cardio and plyometric training moves synced to original music that has been specifically designed to match every single move. Every squat, every lunge, every burpee is driven by the music, helping you make it to that last rep and maybe even five more. THIS IS NOT A DANCE CLASS!

Tabata (Intermediate – Advanced)Interval training at its best! Short but intense bursts of exercise followed by short rest.

*VO2MAX (Intermediate – Advanced)Advance your cardio and muscular endurance to its MAX during this high intensity workout!

Yoga (Various)A series of individual or flow connected poses, focused on relaxation to integrate the body, mind and spirit. *Variety of classes available for all levels.

Zumba (Beginner – Advanced) (Guest cost: $5 +HST)This class combines saucy Latin rhythms with easy to follow moves to give you a fun, upbeat way to get your heart pumping!

Music Movement Mania (2 – 3 yrs.) (parent – child) A dance class for parents and toddlers. Learn to boogie to child-friendly tunes. Get exercise while having fun with your child.

Gym & Swim (2 – 5 yrs.) (parent – child) Children run, climb, roll, hop, balance and crawl! The fun continues in the warm pool with water skills development through songs and games with their parents. *Instructor-led in pool only.

Kindernastics (4 – 5 yrs.) Learn the fundamentals of gymnastics such as forward rolls, walking across balance beam and jumping off the vault. Explore and experience movement in a fun and enriching atmosphere.

Lil' Van Goghs' (2 – 4 yrs.) (parent – child) Children grow so much when they have the opportunity to unleash their imagination and creativity. This program celebrates creativity, individuality, respect and diversity. Kids are free to learn and create through different artistic experiences.

Literacy & Fun (2 – 4 yrs.) (parent – child) Children’s imagination will soar listening to a story and then recreating that story through arts, crafts and developmentally appropriate games.

Mini Movers Ballet (3 – 5 yrs.) Children take part in dance, rhythm and movement to music and learn basic ballet movements.

Mini Movers Tap (3 – 5 yrs.)Children take part in dance, rhythm and movement to music.

Parents ‘n Babies Cardio Time (0 – 6 mo.) Parents make some time for themselves in the Wellness Centre while accompanied by their infant. Children must be safely secured in an infant car seat. *Please note: requires an adult or family membership.

Super Science (2 – 4 yrs.) (parent – child) Children will use their imagination and scientific creativity as they are introduced to a world of thought provoking scientific fun

Totnastics (2 – 3 yrs.) (parent – child) A parent-led discovery of movement in areas such as: rolling, tumbling, balancing and climbing. This program is an early introduction to gymnastics.

Movin’ & Groovin’ (4 – 6 yrs)Fun-filled creative movement dance class where youth learn how to move to the beat while having a ton of fun!

Surfer & Dipper Children 4 – 5 years work on their front and back swim endurance (without floatation devices) and learn more advanced deep water skills.

Admission Policy: Parental Supervision during Instructional Programs: Children 5 years and under must be accompanied by an adult (16+ years). The adult must stay in the viewing gallery for the duration of the class. A sign-in and sign-out policy applies. Children 6 –12 years must be signed in/out from the pool deck at designated class meeting location. Children 13+ years do not need to be signed in/out from classes. The adult must stay in the building for the duration of the class. Access to the pool area and viewing gallery can be accessed through the change rooms ONLY. Outdoor footwear must be removed.

Youth (Grade 1 – Grade 8)Week of April 1 – Week of June 10

Karate – Intro (Gr. 1+)* This program will introduce students to the basics of traditional Shotokan while improving physical capacity. It is the prerequisite to all levels of karate. *Please note an additional program fee of $20 is required to offset costs associated with this program.

Karate for Teens & Adults ((Gr. 8+)* Learn about traditional Shotokan while improving your concentration, discipline, respect, control, physical fitness, self-esteem and confidence. Prereq: Intro to Karate (yellow belt). *Please note an additional program fee of $30 is required to offset costs associated with this program.

*All karate students must have a karate suit. Suits can be purchased through head karate instructor Steve Turgeon.

Junior Squash (Gr. 3+) Come develop your squash skills in this fun but fast-paced sport! Beginner, intermediate and advanced levels offered.

Team Tennis (Gr. 1+) Learn the fundamentals of tennis while practicing teambuilding excercises.

Volleyball Instruction – Beginner (Gr. 3 – 5) Learn the basic skills of volleyball through drills in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.

Volleyball Instruction – Intermediate/Advanced (Gr. 3 – 8) Take the skills learned in beginner volleyball to the next level. Strengthen your serve and perfect your spike.

Middle School Strength & Conditioning Club (Gr. 6 – 8) A class designed for kids looking to increase their fitness level while teaching them to work out independently in a fun and effective manner. Our certified personal trainer will teach a well-rounded routine that will focus on increasing muscular strength, cardio, hand/eye coordination and flexibility. Great for growing athletes.

Badminton Instruction (Gr. 3+) Learn about physical fitness, rules of the game, singles/doubles games and basic/technical skills. Develop your grip, ready position, footwork, high/low serves, drop shots, smashes, singles/doubles strategies and placement of the shuttle.

Fencing – Mini (Gr. 1 – 2) An introductory program for young fencers. New and returning fencers can participate in this physical literacy program built around the sport of fencing. Fencers will work with foam and plastic swords while promoting a healthy attitude towards the sport.

Fencing – Youth I (Gr. 3 – 5) An introductory program for younger fencers. The basics of the sport will be taught using the full steel and protective gear. No prior experience is expected. * Please note classes will be held off-site at the Capital Fencing Club at 512 George Street. All equipment is provided as well as membership with the provincial sports organization.

Fencing – Youth I (Returning) (Gr. 3 – 5) This program expands on the basics of the sport. Fencers will refine their skills and get more involved in bouting using the full steel and protective gear. Youth I program must be completed before registering for this program. * Please note classes will be held off-site at the Capital Fencing Club at 512 George Street. All equipment is provided as well as membership with the provincial sports organization.

Fencing – Youth II (Gr. 6 – 8) An introductory program for middle school aged fencers. The basics of the sport will be taught using the full steel and protective gear. No prior experience is expected. * Please note classes will be held off-site at the Capital Fencing Club at 512 George Street. Babysitting Course Are you ready for the responsibility of babysitting?

The Babysitter Course covers everything from managing difficult behaviours to essential content on leadership and professional conduct as a babysitter. The course will help pre-teens and youth teens feel confident about caring for children of any age. For ages 12-15 yrs.

The YMCA offers a recreational Youth Basketball Program to develop fundamental skills, sportsmanship and a love for the game of basketball. The goal is to allow participants the opportunity to maximize their potential, while promoting the importance of youth basketball as a vehicle to build character, discipline and self-esteem. Practices are held one night a week and games take place on Friday nights throughout the city.Registration for our Youth Recreational Basketball Program is done each Fall. YMCA Competitive Basketball ClubYMCA Capitals offers a community based basketball program to engage all interested participants in a competitive athlete centered experience and is dedicated to the development of basketball players in the Greater Fredericton Area. Our primary goal is to provide a learning environment in which young athletes can develop advanced individual and team based basketball skills and play in fair competition. Registration and tryouts for this program are in September of each year.

YMCA Spring League BasketballThe YMCA Spring Basketball sessions will take place once per week at specific times and locations. YMCA Dance September 2019Recreational Dance

Ballet (Gr. K – 3) Learn basic ballet and classical movements along with barre work, strength and grace.

Hip – Hop (Gr. K – 5) A mix of jazz and funk. Learn to dance like the dancers on America’s Best Dance Crew and music videos.

Tap & Jazz (Gr. K – 3) Children learn the basic steps and styles in both jazz and tap. They perform two dances in the showcase.

Aquatic Leadership CoursesBronze Star with Basic First Aid Participants develop problem-solving and decision-making skills individually and in partners. Candidates learn CPR and develop lifesaving skills needed to be their own lifeguards. This is a great course to take to be successful in Bronze Medallion.

Bronze Medallion with Emergency First Aid Teaches an understanding of the four components of water-rescue education: judgement, knowledge, skill and fitness. Learn tows and carries, as well as defense methods in preparation for challenging rescues. An endurance swim of 500m is timed. Prerequisites are completed Bronze Star or 13 years old by the exam date.

Bronze Cross Designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities. It is a prerequisite for all advanced National Lifeguard courses and includes a 600m timed swim. Prerequisites are Emergency First Aid and Bronze Medallion.

National Lifeguard with Workplace Standard First Aid This course provides candidates with an understanding of the principles and practices on which the National Lifeguard program is based and explores approaches and techniques appropriate for National Lifeguard candidates. Prerequisites are Bronze Cross and 16 years old by the exam date.

Following the YMCA Play to Learn Curriculum and NB Curriculum framework, which are play-based learning curriculums, our objective is to help young children grow mentally, physically, socially and emotionally at his/her own pace. Our program includes daily physical activity and one instructed swimming lesson per week.

YMCA of Fredericton After - School Programs ensure children have the opportunity to learn and play in a safe environment. We have been providing licensed, affordable, convenient, quality programs since 1985. Our program includes daily physical activity, monthly outings and swim time. Youth are transported to their location either by district bus, Trius bus service or are met at the school by our qualified YMCA Staff and walked to their after-school site. Nutritious snacks are provided daily.

Children can choose from several different camp themes such as; Y Summer Fun (General Camp), Swim Camps, and Sports Specific Camps. We also offer a large selection of specialty camps, such as; Kreative Kids, Martial Arts, Super Scientists, Animal Lovers, Skate Boarding, Dance, and more!

YMCA Camp Counsellors are trained in Provincial Child Care Standards, Child Protection, Standard Work Place First Aid/CPR-C Certification and are required to have a completed Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check.
