No, because I was born into ChristianityI always followed Christian principles. But I was saved and baptised at theage of 7 and I was baptised with theHoly Spirit at 10. But I would say that Ibecame serious about this walk ataround of 14/15.

MZ So, your quite a drivenindividual? Yes, I like to think so, I havealways been interested in educationand knowledge, I archived 5A's in myGCSE's and went to a very reportable6th form, I guess I just have profoundaspirations to be great.

MZ Can you tell us more about See& Be Transformation Services? Yes,that is an awesome story still in themaking really, it’s still at the grass roots.Because of the scale of the Midnight OilSummit and what I wanted to putforward, it became apparent that I hadto set up an organisation that is of thelikes of 'Connexions' and 'First ClassYouth Network' to be the body thatwould host such an event.

MZ So you are saying that See &Be Transformation Services is thebody that oversees Midnight OilSummit? Yes, it was called See & BeTransformations because it was hailedfrom the scripture (Romans 12:2) whereit talks about being transformed by therenewing of your mind which doesn’tonly have to apply to ones spiritualbeing but all spheres of life. SBTS isnow a voluntary youth organisation thatuses the skills of young people from allregions of the country to host eventssuch as conferences, expos, concerts, seminars, trips, retreats for youngpeople that will impact and empowertheir Christian, education, andcorporate walk.

And at Midnight Oil this yearopportunities such as these will be onoffer, further education and careerprospects, business apprenticeshipsand gap year mission trip programs willbe available from organisations wehave partnered with.

MZ So at the age of 17 you had a lotof responsibility on your shoulders?Exactly, we had to learn very quicklyand get on the same level as those wewere liaising with as an establishedvoluntary youth organisation. We had towrite a constitution, child protectionpolicies and attend meetings withcouncils and governmental bodies.

At 17 I had to juggle schoolcommitments and risk GCSE’s tocomplete the foundation work and forman infrastructure that was solid. So nowwe are constituted and charityendorsed and we are applying for ourcharity status in the near future andgreat things are going to come from it.But currently, due to our universitystudies we are only able to focus on ouryearly flagship event 'Midnight Oil' butthe future will see much more beinglaunched from See & Be TransformationServices nationwide. More can be seenif you go to the website atwww.seeandbe.org.

MZ What were the main obstaclesyou faced in organising Midnight OilSummit? Wow…there was a lot ofobstacles. First church politics, What isunique about Midnight Oil is that it ishosted by youth for youth, wewitnessed hundreds of people crossingdenominational and racial lines anduniting to celebrate Jesus and thefreedom that comes from hisresurrection. This was groundbreaking.

The second obstacle was people takingus seriously, because we had no pastrecord of events or ministry. So, whenapproaching such great venues, corporate and ministerial bodies wecould understand their reluctance. I hadto rely on the favour of God as Heopened many doors and He allowedpeople to stumble into my lives, whohelped such as Bishop Joe Aldred ofthe Council of Black Led Churches,Selvyn Wright of Tehillah Worship, JeanWaite from the BBC and many more (Icant name them all) And presently

MZ So, tell me more about Seth Pinnock the manbehind the MOS. Thank you for your kind words, it justa vision that I’m been obedient with, I’m just being avessel to God’s glory. I’m 19 years old and I amcurrently enjoying being at university, in Londonstudying Architecture. Completed 2 years got 5 more togo.

MZ Wow, 5 years…? Yes, 5 years to go. Its hardwork but I don’t like to start anything that I can’t finish.I heard Bishop Jakes say once, that ‘it doesn’t matterhow you start but how you finish.' So I am determinedto hold out to the end (smiles).

MZ How long have you been a born againChristian? I was born into it! I had no choice! (laughs).

Of course not every customer is going topleasant to deal with. Some are downrightrude and just awful to deal with. When you arefaced with a difficult customer you have twochoices. You can either act defensively orhelpfully. Acting defensively means respondingin kind, reacting indifferently, or giving thesilent treatment. None of this helps thecustomer.

It doesn’t solve his problem, causes a lot of stressand is asking for more abuse. When confrontedwith a difficult customer, your basic strategy shouldbe one of kindness, empathy and solutions. Thecustomer really has two problems in one.

First you have to deal with his feelings and secondlythe problem which made him angry in the firstplace. If you simply solve the problem withoutmaking an effort to soothe his feelings, he probablywon’t be back. Remember people come back to buywhere they feel good.

Here are 5 ways to deal with an angry customer

1. Keep your coolIf you are in the right you have no need to lose yourtemper and if you are wrong you can’t afford to loseit. Never allow the customer to put you on thedefensive. Arguing back, making excuses, or saying“don’t blame me” will only make him angrier.People who fight fire with fire usually end up withashes. Never argue back. If you make him lookfoolish he will try to find a way to fight back and youwill lose the customer. If he makes you look foolish,he will think that you are dumb and nobody wantsto buy from dumb people.

Going on the defensive is a lose lose situation.Don’t sit and make him stand over you. Look himin the eye and look concerned about their problem.Respond to their comments with something like“I’m sorry that you are upset, let’s see what we cando to solve this problem and make things right foryou.”

If he’s disturbing other customers, invite him to amore quiet place and help him out. Don’t take hisremarks personally. Angry people say all kinds ofirrational things that they don’t mean.

2. Listen with empathy and for the facts If you seem to care about what they are feeling, thechances are that they will try and be more calm.Treating their problem like an everyday routine, orasking them to fill out a form without listening tothem is just asking for more trouble. Angry peopledemand to be heard and understood. As you listen to them, look for areas of agreementand agree with them whenever you can. Statementssuch as “I understand why you are angry.” “I agreethis is quite an inconvenience for you” And “If Iwere you I would be angry too” will show thecustomer that you emphasise and are trying tounderstand him. Then deal with the problem. If you don’t know it yet, ask questions like “whatwent wrong?” or “what did you do then? Who toldyou that? Can you tell me more about that?” Nodyour head in agreement when you want thecustomer to keep talking. If appropriate take notes.

3. Take action to solve the problem If possible offer the customer several options and letthem choose. If you can’t solve the problem, referthem to someone who can and do what you can toput them in contact with the problem solver. And ifyour company is at fault, by all means apologiseprofusely. When you offer a customer solutions tohis problem, state them positively. Tell them whatyou can do rather than what you can’t do. Don’t say“we are not open on Sundays” say “we are openuntil 1pm on Saturdays to serve you.” Don’t say “Ican’t get you a refund today” say “Sir, I shall haveyour refund ready first thing in the morning.”

4. Bring the incident to a polite close Once the problem is solved ask the customer “isthere anything else that I can do for you today?” Ifthe answer is “no” thank him for telling you hisconcern. Indeed he may have provided you withinformation which could save this situation fromrecurring with other customers in the future, andkeep you from losing customers. It is the quietcustomer who just goes away without sayinganything that does the real damage to your business. When appropriate, call the customer to check if theproblem has been properly solved or if a resolutionis under way. This important finishing touch tellsthe customer that his problems are your utmostconcern; that you care!

Don’t expect to win them all. It’s impossible tosatisfy a small percentage of angry customers nomatter what you do. Some customers are just plainangry and get their satisfaction from giving others ahard time. If a customer shows definite signs of being violent, don’t try to handle it alone, get help from highermanagement or the authorities. If you face a lot ofthis regularly, have a tension outlet - play tennis, jog, swim, beat a pillow, get a punching bag. And don’talways expect to be perfect when dealing with angrycustomers. You are human too.

At times you will have to give a customer bad news, for example, you can’t complete the job at the timeit was promised. What you thought was a minorproblem is a major one and the cost exceeds theestimate that you gave them. The customermisunderstood what your product or service woulddo for them, and was expecting more than you candeliver. Being human, you or someone else didsomething which may inconvenience the customer. It is much better to tell the customer and take theheat than to keep him in the dark and ultimately losehim. Whenever things go wrong that willinconvenience a customer, let him knowimmediately. This builds the confidence and trustnecessary for an ongoing relationship.Letting the customer find out the bad news himselfmagnifies and multiplies the problem. If you take ataxi to the garage at the agreed time to pick up yourcar and they say is won’t be ready until tomorrow, how will you feel? It’s bad enough that your carisn’t ready, but these jokers couldn’t be bothered topick up the phone and tell you. When you give a customer bad news, reward himwith perks, do something special for him or give himsomething to off set the disappointment. Customersexchange their money for good feelings. Peopleoften react to bad news according to the way youtell them.

take place. All the issuesof our lives stem from and aredetermined by the condition of our heart. Yourheart is the control centre of your world!Your heart is the incubator of God's word. Spiritand mind are designed to work together, not inisolation. That is why James declares "faithwithout works is dead" (James 2:20). There mustalways be a natural correlation to spiritualpursuits. To put it another way, your actionsmust be congruent with your faith. That is why'belief' is the key element of faith, because all ofyour actions stem from what you believe. Thatbeing the case your 'psychology' is also criticalto your faith as it is fundamental to your beliefs.Your psychology (to put it simply) is thecombination of your rules, values and attitude to

any given situation. When your psychology isin agreement with God's word there isnothing you will not be able to achieve! That is why the most effective people on theplanet are those who are able to combinetheology (spiritual) with psychology (natural). This model for success can be found in the workof Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, an ordainedminister and Pastor who blended psychotherapywith theology. A prolific writer, his highlyacclaimed book 'The Power of PositiveThinking' (a phenomenal best-seller writtenover 50 years ago) still impacts millions today.Over the past generation the church hasexperience unprecedented growth due to theshift in preaching psychology as well as theology.

Taking all this into account, the dynamics offaith boils down to taking a seed (in the form ofa word from God that addresses our need) andplanting it in our hearts where it will take rootand grow until we see the manifestation. Thesoil of your heart must contain nutrientsconducive to the growth of that seed. Thesenutrients come in the form of correspondingbeliefs, knowledge, principles and values; all ofthe things that make up your psychology. Toensure the right nutrients are present you mustwater your heart with God's word andinformation conducive with what you want tomanifest in your life.

THE NEED FOR PATIENCE

The dynamics of faith is liken unto the processof germination. Germination is the growth ofan embryonic plant contained within a seed. The things that God has promised for your lifewill come as a result of germination in yourheart. Germination is dependent on bothinternal and external conditions. Therefore inorder for germination to take place the right

or God is not unrighteous to forget yourlabour and the love which you have shown forHis name's sake in ministering to the needs of

the saints. But we do [strongly and earnestly] desirefor each of you to show the same diligence in realizingand enjoying the full assurance and development of[your] hope until the end; in order that you may notbecome slothful, but imitators, behaving as do thosewho through faith and patient endurance are [now]inheriting the promises (Hebrews 6:10-12amplified).

God's will and desire for your life comes in theform of a promise. This promise is packaged as a'seed' which He plants in the hearts of each andevery one of us. Evidence of this seed is thevision and calling that is tugging on our hearts toachieve something great. It is the one thing thatwe must achieve before we die. It is the thingthat would make all the difference to our livesand the lives of others and bring us to a place oftotal fulfilment. In the opening text, Paul makesan important distinction between our labour oflove in ministering to the needs of others andrealizing the promises of God for our lives. Thewillingness to serve is the prerequisite tobecoming a leader in your own right. It isimportant to submit under the leadership ofothers and aid in realizing their vision. Howeverthere comes a time when you must answer thecall of your own vision and pursue it with alldiligence. Our prime responsibility is to discover, develop and deploy the gift that God has givento us. We do not have the right to just bury ourgift as the lazy steward did in Jesus' parable of thetalents (Matthew 25:24-30).

So how do we manifest the promise of God forour lives? According to Paul it is through faithand patience. Let us look at these two aspects inmore detail:

THE DYNAMICS OF FAITH

Arguably the most concise illustrationthat Jesus gave on the dynamics of faith isthe parable of the sower. In this parable theword of the Kingdom (represented by seeds) issowed and scattered across four types of surfaceconditions: the wayside, stony or shallowground, thorns and good soil (all represented bydifferent types of heart conditions). It is only inthe good soil that the seed is able to take rootand bring forth fruit. What we are seeing here isthe synergy that takes place between mind(heart) and spirit. Jesus said "the words that Ispeak unto you are spirit and life" (John 6:63).Words are more than a form of communication, they are spiritual containers! Spirit is in essencelife (or a life force), therefore words (especiallyGod's word) are full of life.

Proverbs 4:23 instructs us to 'keep and guard ourhearts with all diligence for out of it flows theissues of life.' It is through the heart (mind)where manifestation of God's word for our lives

environment must be present. This is why germination does not happen immediately. It onlyhappens after a period of dormancy. This period isknown as seed dormancy. The length of dormancyis dependent upon the nature of the seed and the

environment it requires. Different variety of seedsrequire distinctive variables for successfulgermination; some seeds germinate while the soilis cold, while most germinate while the soil iswarm. Some seed require light and others requiredarkness. It all depends on the individual seedand its nature.

In like manner your time of manifestation isdependent on the nature of your purpose. Theconditions that worked for someone else may notnecessarily work for you. Depending on thenature of your purpose you may have to gothrough a period of darkness while others needlight. Like a cactus, you may flourish in hostileconditions where others cannot. Places andactivities that are questionable to others maybe

totally necessary for you. When yourenvironment becomes conducive to the characterof your seed, it induces germination. This is calledthe dormancy release factor. The dormancyrelease factor removes all the 'barriers' thatprevents germination.

As previously mentioned, the seed (word), inJesus' parable of the sower, only flourished in goodsoil. It is interesting to note that the Greek wordused for good is kalos which primarily means'beautiful.' It has nothing to do with benevolence!Beauty is a relative term (beauty is in the eye of thebeholder); what is beautiful to one, mayberepulsive to another. Therefore only the seed candetermine the beauty of the soil.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 says that God makes everythingbeautiful in His time. Never think God's delaysare His denials. He is working on your heart andyour environment to bring you to your place andtime of beauty. It is in your time of beauty that youwill see the manifestation of God's promise. Thistakes time and patience. The barriers that arebefore you, the things that are hinderingyour success may have more to do with yourenvironment than your behaviour! What youneed is the dormancy release factor to break downthe barriers. Consider the environment you are inright now. This maybe your job, your social settingor even the country you live in. These factors andmany more can stifle your growth. Your place ofbeauty maybe in your own business rather than ajob. Your place of beauty maybe in anothercountry. Your place of beauty maybe withsomeone or without. Maybe you should be anactress instead of an accountant, a musicianinstead of a lawyer. Remember it is the nature ofyour seed that determines the beauty of your soiland the environment; not the opinion of others!
