Is sport Third Sector?

• “The voluntary [and community] sector includes not just those organisations which provide services to the people who need help, advice or care; it embraces all those, formal and informal, large or small, which people set up and join because they like to play football or sing….”,

• NCVO Civil Society Almanac 2008 found sport is third largest segment of civil society organisations generating £6.1 billion

Sport Partnership Project

• Funded by Sport England (2007 – 2010)

• Aim: “To embed a culture of collaboration between sporting organisations and wider third sector”

• LIOs work with sport to clubs improve effectiveness and reach

• To provide most hard to reach and disadvantage to benefit from participation in sport
