HULL WASPS are the region’s premier basketball club competing in England Basketball’s National League competition. Hull Wasps provide thrilling entertaining basketball at the fabulous 1,500-seater Bonus Arena, part of the KC Stadium complex.

After deriving from the original Hull Stingers Basketball Club, established in 1961, the club launched as the Hull Wasps for their first ever season in 2008. Led by promising young coaches, the club have progressed year-on-year and aim to progress through the National League and eventually reach the top-flight of British Basketball, the BBL. We are proud of our history and are looking forward to the future of the club with great excitement. We are ambitious and believe we can have the success to match it over the years to come.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENTThe Wasps place a strong emphasis on youth development and work with the region’s sporting organisations to develop young talented players and provide players of all ages and abilities with the chance to play and develop their skills.

Hull Wasps for the first time will be introducing their first under-14 national league team competing in the 2011-12 season. Led by the club’s Director of Youth Development, Liam Wordsworth, this will be the first of a number of youth teams to develop alongside our new community programme and will take basketball into the community on a scale never seen before in Hull and East Yorkshire.

We firmly believe in the development of young local talent but also aim to encourage participation across all areas of the community, in line with Sport England’s national objectives.

We are very much apart of the community and know that without the support we have from our fans, we wouldn’t have had the success we have had so far.

WE ARE HULL

Basketball is one of the most popular and exciting sports in the world. It’s fast pace and intense action provide thrilling entertainment for fans of all ages. As the only senior mens National League club in Hull and East Yorkshire, we have an extremely large geographic catchment area meaning that we can attract a large audience by making one of the worlds most popular sports very accessible to the region.

We have already developed a strong following of passionate fans of all ages; from children to adults, male and female, attracting over 6,500 spectators to the arena during the first few seasons of the club’s National League existence. During 2010, a large promotion and marketing campaign attracted over 700 spectators to see the Hull Wasps take on Middlesbrough Lions in a regular season game.

The club’s various marketing campaigns regularly include leaflet and poster distribution, columns in the Hull Daily Mail and the Advertiser, E-mail Marketing, Facebook™ and regular appearances on KCFM 99.8 and WHCR 106.9. Throughout the summer, the Wasps will have an exciting radio advertising campaign on WHCR informing listeners of the exciting new 2011-12 national league season beginning in September.

Our fabulous venue, the Bonus Arena, part of the KC Stadium complex, can hold up to 1,500 spectators during a game and that is, what we believe, a very realistic target as the team succeeds throughout the years and our level of marketing increases. Our ambition is to compete in the franchised professional league in the UK, the British Basketball League (BBL).

Basketball is the Worlds fastest growing and •largest participation sport – it is played by millions globally.FIBA, the worlds governing body for •basketball, state that the sport is now played by over 400 million people worldwide.Basketball is one of the world’s largest •spectator sports, being a major sport in every continent.FIBA has 212 countries in membership - more •than any other governing body for any other sport.It is estimated that there are around a •1,400,000 people in England who regularly participate in basketball.Basketball is one of the most accessible sports •being played by boys and girls of all ages along with proving a variation for those who suffer from a disability, by playing wheelchair basketball. It is becoming increasingly common to find •basketball as a part of primary and secondary schools curriculum.Attendance at BBL games are often around or •over 3,000 spectators per game.Major events like the Championship Finals or •the All-Star games often attract up to 8000 spectators.

OUR MARKETING

The club has one main strategy that influences everything we do; a strong and professional performance both on and off the court. We know that an essential part of that strategy is good branding, good marketing and a good professional website that serves the fans, the club and it’s sponsors.

Our marketing strategy consists of raising awareness through a variety of means; including community and education programmes, radio, newspaper and local television. We are also involved in a variety of social media websites including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. We regularly offer potential fans the chance to come and see Hull’s basketball club for free or at a heavily discounted rate. This has proven to be very successful, tripling our average attendance in less than 2 years.

Our website regularly receives around 1,000 unique visitors each month throughout the season and it looks to continue to grow each and every month. Our website is a fantastic outlet for sponsors to attract new business and re-enforce their brand and products. Our social media output is a great addition to our online presence, constantly connected to over 300 fans who keep in constant contact with the news and offers. It also allows sponsors to push their products and services directly to our base in a professional and engaging way.

Our marketing continues to improve all the time as we continue to invest all revenue back into the club. As we do so, your brand will be associated with a club that’s making a name for itself in all the right ways and will prove to be a worth while investment.
