As we have continued on in our series about finding our way or hope in uncertain times let me remind of you what we have already covered. Peter starts off in his letter reminding all believers to never lose hope in the frightening times they were facing and that would apply to us Christians in the 21st century as well. He tries to get us to focus on the fact that we are aliens or strangers in this world simply passing through as one on a vacation and stopping in a small town to get a bite to eat or fill up in gas so don’t get too nervous by the attendants all with the name Darrell playing the banjo on their front porches.
But he does encourage us to be prepared for action. The “Therefore” he uses is a transition word telling us that since the previous principles are true, here is the action or attitude that should follow. He keeps us focused with our motivation saying, “…we were redeemed…with the precious blood of Christ…and so our faith and hope is in God.” So keep in mind that God is building His church with what He calls “living stones” which would be us. All Believers are to keep in mind when we face uncertainty that we are God’s royal priesthood, His holy nation, His people, so that we can declare the glory of our Lord.
Then out of nowhere Peter asks us to be submissive to all those that have been place in authority over us, whether it be secular authority or spiritual authority for the Lord’s sake. So by submitting God’s way we honor the Lord and we enhance our testimony all for the glory and honor of our God.
As Peter continues on with that thought he develops for us this incredible privilege we have as saved people to share that salvation with others. But that can only be accomplished by actually living out what he already discussed and believing what he writes forward here…”Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? But even if you should suffer…Do not fear…do not be frightened. But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope you have.” Is that not something we need to hear today and trust in?
And then Peter tells us to make sure we share the gospel of Christ…our hope… with gentleness and respect. If we go after people who do not understand our Christian worldview like a maniac we will be of no good use to kingdom building. People will run scared from us and never hear why we have hope in such darkness. Our reason to approach others with the love of Christ is because that is how He approached us. He died for our sins as well as “their” sins so as to bring all of us into a relationship with God. And the easiest way to accomplish such a wonderful task is to treat others better than ourselves, to put others first in line, since it was Jesus who suffered and died for us.
Church, we have been encouraged by the Word of God to arm ourselves with the same attitude as Jesus Christ. If we want to get through this chaotic and uncertain world we live in than we have to do as Jesus did, we have to have His attitude towards others as He does towards us. “Above all, love each other deeply from the heart because love covers over a multitude of sins…speak the very words of God…so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.”
Saved to Serve,
Tim
Our world seems to be getting progressively obsessed with what we eat. Calories, organic ingredients, food allergies, and gluten are normal parts of conversation that you probably didn’t talk about 30 years ago. You’ve probably heard it said, “You are what you eat,” and our world certainly seems to believe it.
Another truth, though, is, “You are who you are around.” Just as the food we choose helps determine our physical health, the people we choose to be around will also help determine our physical, emotional, and spiritual health.
2 Corinthian 6:14 says, “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?” Often people associate this passage with marriage and there is great truth for marriage in this passage. However, this passage never uses words like marriage, wife, or husband. The truth found in this verse applies to every relationship you have. It’s true for your boss, your neighbor, your best friend, your kid’s teacher, and everything in between.
The message for us is to surround ourselves with Godly people. When I look at my own life and the lives of students I have worked with the general rule is that you will look most like those you are closest too. The people you care the most about and desire to be around the most will be the kind of person that you either are or are becoming. This is especially true of young students trying to fit in, but I’ve also found this principal to be true in all people.
I’ve noticed that adults seek out people that they are comfortable with (which makes obvious sense). Everyone wants to be around people that make them feel comfortable and accepted. When it comes to life though, it is incredibly important that we surround ourselves with Godly people. The writer of Hebrews recognized this and made a point to tell his readers, “Let us not give up meeting together, as some of you are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching” – Heb. 10:25. It is vitally important to anyone’s relationship with God that they surround themselves with people who are passionate about their relationship with God. When your closest friends are people who are not fully invested in God, you will find yourself in the same situation. When you give up meeting together, you’ve not only lost your encouragement but you are probably getting negative encouragement as well.
Look at the people that you are closest too. See who they are and recognize that their characteristics probably define you as well. Is it pushing you towards God, or pulling you away?
Look around and see who you’ve become.

99 THOUGHTS FOR PARENTS OF TEENAGERS THE TRUTH ON RAISING TEENAGERS FROM PARENTS WHO HAVE BEEN THERE
MEDIA PLAYS A HUGE ROLE IN TEENAGERS’ LIVES By Walt Mueller
The latest research says that the average 8- to 18-year-old is spending 7 hours and 38 minutes a day using media of some kind. Much of that time is spent using multiple media platforms simultaneously! To full understand the powerful role media play in their lives, we must remember that teenagers are in a tumultuous period of change. They also want to know what life is all about and how to live in the world. Maybe the best way to say it is, they’re sponges! Our media meet them where they are and answer their questions, provide guidance for life, and tell them what to value and how to live in the world. Media serves as a map. But isn’t that our job as parents? In ad-dition to helping our teenagers map out their lives, we need to study the map of their media. Then we can point out to them when media are sending them in the right direction leading them down very dangerous paths.

What do you do while you drive? Listen to talk radio, put on your makeup, or perhaps even listen to classic rock and roll. We want to encourage you to use that time as an investment toward personal spiritual growth. This month we will be provid-ing three CDs that will address certain family issues from a Christ-centered approach. These CD’s will help encourage, equip, and strengthen you as a Christian parent and spouse. You can find these CD’s available at the Parent Resource Cen-ter in the Kidz Konnection Zone.

CD 3 – Your Attitude: The Key To Your Success (Dr. John Maxwell)
SUPERSTART is a fun, high-energy 4th - 5th Grade Weekend Event
Our world will be dark and confusing and down right scary. For our kids, this might be difficult to understand.
But here’s thing, just like that light pierced through the darkness of my home, we get to speak into the hearts of these kids and remind them that even in the dark, God is still in control. God still loves them. And God will faithfully carry them through the darkness into His marvelous light.
Unfortunately, even for our kids, this happens more than we’d like.
Maybe someone we care about dies. Or they get bad news from a doctor. A parent loses a job. One of our children gets bullied at school. Someone gets divorced.
Kids find themselves trying to make their way through the dark, when all they might need is a little light. That’s why we’re taking the whole month to talk about hope.
Hope is believing that something good can come out of something bad. It’s important to help kids know what to do when life throws them a curveball—when their picture doesn’t pan out the way they think it will—to let them know that life will get messy at some point. But no matter how confusing, God still has a plan. He is powerful enough to make something good come out of something bad.
That’s why a great verse to get your kids to memorize is John 16:33b: “In this world you will have trouble. But be encouraged! I have won the battle over the world,”(NIrV)
Those are actually the words of Jesus. And if you want a demonstration of how God can use pain and suffering and do some-thing powerful, just think about Jesus. More specifically, think about the message of the Gospel. The life, death, burial and res-urrection of Jesus is enough to give us all the hope we will ever need, which becomes especially important this month as we get to celebrate and discovery more about Easter.
