Part 200 Regulations  Students with disabilities shall be provided

special education in the least restrictive environment, to enable students with disabilities to be educated with nondisabled students to the maximum extent appropriate, specially designed instruction and supplementary services may be provided in the regular class, including, as appropriate, providing related services, resource room programs and special class programs within the general education classroom.

Related Services: developmental, corrective, and other supportive services as are required to assist a student with a disability speech and language pathology audiology services interpreting services psychological services physical therapy (PT) occupational therapy (OT) counseling services orientation and mobility services parent counseling and training school health services school social work assistive technology services

Consultant Teacher Indirect ratio =20:1 consultation provided by a certified special

education teacher to a general education teacher to assist the general education teacher

to adjust the learning environment and/or modifying his/her instructional methods to meet the individual needs of a student with a disability who attends the general education class

shall indicate the regular education classes in which the student will receive consultant teacher services (E.G. English Class, Math Class)

Consultant Teacher Direct Ratio: 20:1 Each student with a disability requiring consultant

teacher services shall receive direct and/or indirect services consistent with the student's IEP for a minimum of two hours each week

specially designed instruction to aid the student to benefit from the general education class instruction to adapt the content, methodology, or delivery of instruction to support the student to successfully participate and progress in the general curriculum during regular instruction

shall indicate the regular education classes in which the student will receive consultant teacher services. (E.g. English Class)

Consultant Teacher/Resource Room Each student with a disability requiring

consultant teacher services shall receive direct and/or indirect services consistent with the student's IEP for a minimum of two hours each week, except that the committee on special education may recommend that a student with a disability who also needs resource room services in addition to consultant teacher services, may receive a combination of such services consistent with the student’s IEP for not less than three hours each week.

Resource Room ratio=5:1 a special education program providing specialized

supplementary instruction in an individual or small group setting for a portion of the school day

Not intended to be homework help! each student with a disability requiring a resource room

program shall receive not less than three hours of instruction per week in such program

supplementary instruction that cannot otherwise be provided during the student's regular instructional time.  E.g. specialized supplementary instruction in organization skills, reading, the use of an assistive technology device, the use of Braille or the use of a compensatory strategy

Integrated Co-teaching integrated co-teaching services means the provision of

specially designed instruction and academic instruction provided to a group of students with disabilities and non-disabled students.

the number of students with disabilities in such classes shall not exceed 12 students.

integrated co-teaching services means students are intentionally grouped together based on similarity of need for the purpose of receiving specially designed instruction in a general education class, usually daily for the identified class.  In this model, a general education teacher and a special education teacher share responsibility for the delivery of primary instruction, planning and evaluation for all students. 

Special Class

special class means a class consisting of students with disabilities who have been grouped together because of similar individual needs for the purpose of being provided specially designed instruction.

the only 15:1 option would be students receiving highly individualized reading instruction through Read 180.

the 6:1:1 option would include students requiring highly intensive, small group instruction in addition to their integrated classes (E.g. English, math)

Special Class-BOCES (6:1:1, 8:1:1, 12:1:1, 12:1:3+1) Special class means a class consisting of

students with disabilities who have been grouped together because of similarity of individual needs for the purpose of receiving specially designed instruction in a self-contained setting, meaning that such students are receiving their primary instruction separate from their non-disabled peers. 

Home/Hospital Instruction Home and hospital instruction means special

education provided on an individual basis for a student with a disability confined to the home, hospital or other institution because of a disability.
