INVITATION Everyone in any way connected with transport is invited to register for the 32nd Southern African Transport Conference (SATC 2013). It will be of particular interest to: municipal and provincial employees, policy and decision-makers, academics, researchers, students and professionals active in the planning, construction, manufacturing, logistics, operation and safety of passenger and freight transport, road traffic, rail, ports, maritime and aviation. End-users will also find the conference of interest.
SYNOPTIC PROGRAMME From Monday to Thursday the sessions/workshops (1A-1C, 2A-2C, 3A-3C, 4A) take place over a full day and it is therefore possible to register for only one session/workshop per day. However, once at the conference, delegates are welcome to move between sessions, space permitting.

SOCIAL FUNCTIONS Cocktail Party – 17:00 to 18:30
A cocktail party will be held at the conference venue after the day’s proceedings on Monday, 8 July 2013. The following awards for papers presented at the conference will be announced: SATC Award for the “Best Paper”; SATC Award for the “Best Practical Paper”; SAICE Transportation Division Award for the “Best Paper by a Young Professional” Delegates registered for any of the four days of the conference are invited to attend and are requested to indicate their attendance on the registration form.
SPECIAL EVENT Opening – . Music Entertainment Marimba Percussion Player, Clavinova and Baritone Singer will perform extracts from the musicals as well as the National Anthem of SA.

The above hotels are recommended for accommodation during the conference. Delegates are responsible for their own arrangements. They should book by E-MAIL sending all the relevant details as well as either credit card details or prepayment and quoting the above reference details in order to qualify for the discounted rates and to ensure a booking at the hotel of their choice.
TRANSPORT The organisers will arrange a courtesy bus to transport delegates from the above hotels to the CSIR ICC in the morning and back after the day’s proceedings/social function. Delegates wishing to make use of the courtesy bus should tick the relevant section on the registration form.
EXHIBITION An exhibition – a showcase for all related industries – will run concurrently with the conference from Monday, 8 to Thursday, 11 July 2013. Exhibition space (3m x 3m) is available on a first come, first served basis. Organisations wishing to exhibit are requested to contact the Conference Secretariat.

CONFERENCE DOCUMENTATION Delegates registered for any of the conference sessions and workshops will receive the following documentation: - Conference Handbook containing the programme and abstracts of the papers presented at SATC
2013; - CD-ROM containing the full papers presented at SATC 2013: - List of delegates registered by Friday, 28 June 2013. Extra copies of the CD-ROM will be available at a cost of R100,00.

STUDENT ESSAY COMPETITION
The Organising Committee has instituted an essay competition open to all registered students (undergraduate as well as postgraduate) at tertiary institutions. The competition is held within the institutions (the Organising Committee has already been in contact with the institutions) and each institution will select its two winners.
Students need to prepare a five-page essay on "Transport and Sustainable Infrastructure". This relates to the theme of SATC this year. Final selections will be done by each institution, and the winning essays submitted to the SATC Secretariat ([email protected]) by 20 May 2013.
The two top authors from each institution and their lecturer will be supported to attend SATC 2013. For winners from outside Gauteng, economy class airfare, accommodation in Pretoria, meals and registration will be provided.
REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT REGISTRATION – OPENING 9 MAY 2013 Registration is per day. This four-day conference consists of an opening session, plenary and parallel sessions, including BRT Workshop. The conference sessions (1A-1C, 2A-2C, 3A-3C) and the BRT Workshop (4A) take place over a full day and it is therefore possible to register for only one session per day. However, once at SATC, delegates are welcome to move between the sessions. Registrations are done via the SATC website: www.satc.org.za

PLENARY SPEAKERS MONDAY To be advised TUESDAY Mr Jeffrey Gagnon, FAA Airport Pavement R&D Section, USA
Mr Jeffrey Gagnon joined the Airport Technology R&D Branch in August 2007 as the Airport Pavement R&D Section Manager located at the William J Hughes Technical Center in Atlantic City, NJ. He is a civil engineer with over 20 years of experience in the aviation industry. He has worked with several international engineering firms on a diverse range of projects ranging from design and construction of large green-field international airports to pavement research studies. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of New Hampshire in 1990 and a Master‘s of Engineering from Texas A&M University in 1992. He is a licensed professional engineer in the state of North Carolina and Maryland. He is a member of the ASCE Airfield Pavement Committee.

WEDNESDAY Mr Yoga Adiwinarto, Institute for Transportation and Development Policy, Indonesia
Yoga is transport engineer and planner with more than 7 years of experience developing sustainable transport in the UK and Indonesia. Currently as Country Director for ITDP in Indonesia, Yoga has been managing technical improvement and organisational transformation for Transjakarta Bus Rapid Transit
Yoga’s range of expertise vary from the transport engineering, planning and modelling, where he worked as consultant to the County Council in UK developing local transport plan and program, as well as bus operation,
station and road design, fleet design, bus franchise contract, non‐motorized transport improvement, Business plan and Financial model, change management up to public consultation with stakeholder. Relevant Experience
Transport Planning & Modelling; Developed local transport plan for City and County Council in the UK with focus on sustainable transport. Modelling for Public transport and traffic was conducted as part of the development to test the transport measures scenarios before they were implemented
Public Transport Operation and Planning; Managed technical improvement for Bus Rapid Transit operation in terms of route selection, Fleet allocation and number of kilometre travelled to achieve the efficiency of Transjakarta operation. Worked closely with the Transjakarta Agency to implement the recommendation on the improvement
Transjakarta Business Plan and Financial Model; Managed the work done by Consultant to develop
the 5‐ year business plan and Financial Model for Transjakarta. Also managed and supervised the follow up of the implementation of the business plan within Transjakarta Organisation
Transjakarta Operator Franchise Framework; Developed the contract framework for Operatos Franchise in Transjakarta. Involved in preparing the technical specification of the contract up to the terms of conditions to be met by each party. As part of the work, I also assisted Transjakarta during the tender process to select the bidder.
Management Transformation of Transjakarta; Leading the process of transforming Transjakarta organisation to become more independent and sustainable in the long run. As part of the work, assisted the organisation to develop more efficient workflow, led series of workshops and management training as well as creating new brand and vision for the organisation.
Station Design and Improvement, Developed plan and design to scale up the operation of Transjakarta as a BRT system by bringing more regular bus route to become part of Transjakarta to make the operation more efficient. The work includes route identification through extensive data collection and surveys, station expansion design, developed ridership forecast up to the road design alteration associated with the station expansion.
Stakeholder Consultation; Part of the work to introduce new projects or policy, I often led the consultation with Stakeholders such as bus operators and drivers, Local City Council and government.
