Garpanchkot name evolved from the name “Garh” which means fort in Bengali. The
Maharaja of Kashipur, Karan Deo constructed a Garh (fort) in the hills near to a natural lake. The King
also constructed a terracotta temple . The ruins are only visible. Later on the Maharaja of Kashipur had
to shift his fort to Kashipur due to Mughal attacks.
The Garpanchkot resort is located along with the lines of tribal village, Baghmara. Do not
expect a five star speciality or luxury in this place. A simple home made out of concrete (Exteroir) and
eco friendly bamboo with mud (Interior) keeps the room cool in summer and hot in winter. No A/C or
Geyser for hot water.
But if you really want to enjoy the nature in this off bit location with a sense of difference we would re-
ally recommend you this place. In the morning you can go the Baghmara village and fetch some green
vegetables from the firm itself. If you enjoy cooking in the wooden burner the resort staff is so kind
enough they will arrange burner with cooking utensils, so why not have some smoked desi chicken
with wine sitting under tree in the evening hours.
There is a awesome trekking route available for the first time trekkers who can walk up and down 12
KM to reach the pick of Garpanchkot hills.
