    ConfidenceSelf-esteem has been directly connected

    to an individual's social network, the

    activities they participate in, and what they

    hear about themselves from others.Positive self-esteem has been linked to

    factors such as psychological health,

    mattering to others, and both body image

    and physical health. On the contrary, low

    self-esteem has been associated with the

    outcomes of depression, health problems,

    and antisocial behavior. Usually,

    adolescents of poor health will display low

    self-esteem. Globally, self-confidence in

    boys and girls will decline during

    adolescence, and in contrast to boys, girls'

    self-confidence won't shoot back up again

    until early adulthood. During adolescence,

    self-esteem is affected by age, race,

    ethnicity, puberty, body weight,

    involvement in physical activities, and

    gender. Self-confidence can vary and be

    observed in a variety of dimensions.

    Components of one's social and academic

    life affect self esteem. An individual's self-

    confidence can vary in different

    environments: such as at home or inschool.

    The Wheel of Wellness was the first

    theoretical model of Wellness based in

    counseling theory. It is a model based

    onAdler's individual psychology and cross-

    disciplinary research on characteristics of

    healthy people who live longer and with a

    higher quality of life. The Wheel of

    Wellness includes five life tasks that relate

    to each other: spirituality, self-direction,

    work and leisure, friendship, and love.

    There are 12 subtasks of self-direction

    areas: sense of worth, sense of control,

    realistic beliefs, emotional awareness and

    coping, problem solving and creativity,

    sense of humor, nutrition, exercise, self-care, stress management, gender identity,

    and cultural identity. There are also five

    second-order factors, the Creative Self,

    Coping Self, Social Self, Essential Self,and Physical Self, which allow exploration

    of the meaning of wellness within the total

    self. In order to achieve a high self esteem,

    it is essential to focus on identifying

    strengths, positive assets, and resources

    related to each component of the Wellness

    model and using these strengths to cope

    with life challenges.[5]

    [edit]Implicit vs. Explicit Self-Confidence

    Implicit can be defined as something that

    is implied or understood though not directly

    expressed. Explicit is defined assomething that is fully and clearly

    expressed; leaving nothing

    implied.[6]

    Implicitly measured self-esteem

    has been found to be weakly correlated

    with explicitly measured self-esteem. This

    leads some critics to assume that explicit

    and implicit self confidence are two

    completely different types of self-esteem.

    Therefore, this has drawn the conclusion

    that one will either have a distinct,

    unconscious self-esteem OR they will

    consciously misrepresent how they feel

    about themselves. Recent studies have

    shown that implicit self-esteem doesn't

    particuarly tap into your unconcious, rather

    that people consciously overreport their

    levels of self esteem. Another possibility is

    that implicit measurement may beassessing a different aspect of conscious

    self-esteem altogether.[7]

    Inaccurate self-

    evaluation is commonly observed in

    healthy populations. In the extreme, largedifferences between ones self-perception

    and ones actual behavior is a hallmark of

    Self-confidence is the confidence one has in oneself, ones knowledge, and ones abilities. It isthe confidence of the type: "I can do this". " I have the ability to do this". Self-confidence is theone thing that is much more important than many other abilities and traits. If you do not haveself-confidence, what you do will never become fruitful at all.     Genuine self-confidence is the forerunner of achievements. Self-confidence integrates thepowers of mind and body and focuses them towards the goal. Only such a concentrated energycan reach the goal.

    Self-confidence is the first step to progress, development, achievement and success. Even if

    you have a lot of abilities and a lot of knowledge, if you do not have Self-confidence you cannotbe a success. But, on the contrary, even if you have only average abilities and knowledge, ifyou have an unfailingly true self-confidence, chances are that you achieve what you want to.

    The successes and achievements in turn will strengthen your self-confidence further. Peoplelike, respect, believe and trust persons who are self-confident. It is natural that persons withgood confidence are offered leadership and other office responsibilities of groups. More andmore opportunities automatically come the way of the person with a good self-confidence. Inshort, success flows to those who have a genuine Self-confidence.

    Tips to improve your self-confidence

    1.1. Improve yourSelf Esteem2. Self Esteem depends on how one evaluates oneself, ones abilities and

    achievements rather than the quality and quantity of these.

    By improving ones self-acceptance, self-concept, and self-image, one canimprove one's self-esteem. Unless one is not able to love oneself, like oneselfrespect and accept oneself as one is -- with all the defects one has -- it is not

    possible to have self-esteem. People do not accept one who does not accepthimself.

    Keep a good self-image of yourself in your minds eye. Imagine yourself as astrong, confident and decisive person. Foster a positive image of yourself. Neverwaste your precious time, energy and effort by worrying about your weaknessand deficits. Accept your deficits, defects as such understand clearly thatworrying and mourning over your defects, deficits, weakness and negatives cannever bring their opposites. On the other hand, it will only worsen your positionfurther. So stop worrying over them .

    3. Think and Act Positively

    Be positive. Think of your wins and successes. Think of your achievements, positives. Find out

    new opportunities. Be optimistic and be realistic. Start to act confidently and positively. Write

    down all your positives, strengths, virtues. Write down the recent successes and achievements

    you had. Keep the list with yourself and append it whenever possible.

    Behave in line with the stereotyped behavior of those who are confident. Thiseasily makes others think that you are confident. Dress neatly and smartly. Keepyourself straight when walking, standing and sitting. Walk with firm steps, do notbe absent minded. Keep yourself energetic and vital.
