This chart shows the number of single-family
demolition permits issued in Princeton from 2005
through July 2016. During this time, 218 single-family home demolition permits were issued in Princeton
excluding the thirteen 2013 demolitions on Alexander
Street by Princeton University.
This data was obtained from the Princeton Building Department and geocoded by the project team to help
analyze spatial patterns and identify other trends.
Multiple demolition permits issued for the
same lot and typically in the same year were
omitted from this analysis.

LOCATION OF SINGLE-FAMILY HOME DEMOLITIONS - PRINCETON, NJ (2005-2016)*
This map shows the location of single-family
home demolitions in Princeton, NJ from 2005 through July 2016. The demolitions of single
family homes are concentrated in the central and eastern
parts of Princeton with a small cluster near
Greenway Meadows. On some streets, such as Random Road, Snowden Lane and Jefferson Road,
a string of adjacent houses have
been demolished.
This data was obtained from the Princeton
Building Department and geocoded by the project team to help
analyze spatial patterns and identify other trends. Multiple
demolitions permits issued for the same lot
and typically in the same year were omitted from
this analysis
3
This map shows the location and size of home addition permits issued
from 2005 – 2015. Overall, the spatial
patterns on this map resemble those on the
map of demolitions. Large additions are being
undertaken in the same general areas/zoning
districts as the demolitions.
This data was obtained from the Princeton
Building Department and geocoded
by the project team to help analyze spatial
patterns and identify other trends. Very small home additions (smaller
than 500 s.f.) such as bathroom renovations,
patio expansions etc. and additions with missing
information are omitted from this analysis.

LOCATION & SIZE OF HOME ADDITIONS - PRINCETON, NJ (2005-2015)
4
The majority of the single-family demolitions
are clustered in the former township’s R-4,
R-5 & R-6 zoning districts.Parcels in these zoningdistricts are, typically,
half-acre and smaller lots. There is also a
concentration in the Borough R-1, R-2 and R-4 district, which are also, typically, half-acre and
smaller parcels. There is a smaller cluster within the
former Township’s R-2 zoning district.
There are fewer demolitions taking place in other zoning districts.
A higher density of demolitions tends to occur in smaller lot
subdivisions that are in districts that are
established between 1930 and 1970 where
there is “latent capacity” in the zoning bulk
regulations.
