About Avila

Ávila is a Spanish town located 73 miles north west of Madrid. It’s sometimes called the Town of Stones and Saints (Birthplace of Santa Teresa de Jesus), and is one of the towns with the highest number of Romanesque and Gothic churches per capita in Spain. It has complete and prominent medieval town walls, built in the Romanesque style. The writer José Martínez Ruiz, in his book El alma castellana (The Castilian Soul), described it as "perhaps the most 16th-century town in Spain", and it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985.

DAY 4 MADRID – RUEDA (Bodegas Yllera) - QUINTANILLA DE ONESIMO (Bodegas Arzuaga Navarro) Buffet Breakfast and departure to visit to the YLLERA WINERY in Rueda including a Wine

Tasting. Then on to Quintanilla de Onesimo to visit the ARZUAGA-NAVARRO WINERY

including a Wine Tasting and plentiful Lunch with wine at the winery restaurant (2pm).

Overnight at the winery’s Spa-Arzuaga Hotel. (5*)

BODEGAS GRUPO YLLERA, Rueda (Valladolid)

BODEGAS ARZUAGA-NAVARRO, Quintanilla de Onesimo, Valladolid

Founded at the beginning of the 90’s, this winery is built of solid rustic stone. Its architecture evoques monastic thoughts. The bodega offers a variety of wine activities related to its wines.

DAY 5 QUINTANILLA- BURGOS (Bodegas Valduero y Portia) Buffet Breakfast and departure for Gumiel del Mercado to visit the BODEGAS VALDUERO including a Wine Tasting and Lunch. Continue to Burgos. En-route we will also visit the

PORTIA WINERY including a Wine Tasting. Continuation to Burgos for overnight.

BODEGAS VALDUERO, Gumiel del Mercado, Burgos

This winery was built excavating 3 tunnels under a mountain dedicated respectively to the manufacturing of stain steel barrels, and bottle and barrel storage, Currently Valduero holds more than 4000 oak barrels and 1 million bottles that lye in place until they reach the optimal point of perfection. The winery exports 55% of its total output.

PORTIA WINERY, Gumiel de Izan, Burgos

Founded in 2010, this winery was designed by Norman Foster, winner of the prize Principe de Asturias of the Arts. It was recognized by the Royal Institute of British Architects as the building with the best design in Europe. The bodega covers more tan 150 hectares of vines from the variety Tinta (Red) in the country. Its trade marks are Ebeia, Portia, Portia Prima & Triennia.

DAY 6 BURGOS (Bodegas Marques De Murrieta & Marqués De Riscal) Buffet Breakfast and departure for Logrono to visit the MARQUES DE MURRIETA WINERY

where we will have a Wine Tasting followed by a Tapas Lunch. After that we continue to

Eltziego to visit the MARQUES DE RISCAL WINERY, and have a Wine Tasting.

Return to Burgos for Dinner with wine & Overnight. NH Collection Palacio de Burgos 4*

BODEGAS MARQUES DE MURIETTA, Algoncillo, Logroño, La Rioja, Spain

Marqués de Murrieta´s foundation is linked to the origins of the Rioja wines since Luciano Murrieta produced in 1852 the first Rioja wine and was also the first one to export his wines. Luciano, appointed Marquis by the King Amadeo of Savoy thanks to his work in Rioja, travelled to Bordeaux to learn the winemaking techniques that he introduced later in Spain. He established the concept of “château” in the Ygay Estate where he built the emblematic Ygay Castle. In 1983 Vicente Cebrián Sagarriga, tenth Count of Creixell, took over the project. He modernized the winery and with his entrepreneurial vocation he continued the legacy of Marqués de Murrieta. After his death his eldest son, Vicente D. Cebrián-Sagarriga, current Count

of Creixell, assumed together with his sister Cristina the management of the winery, accompanied by a young and qualified team. Over the years, the Count of Creixell´s family has become the perfect continuity to maintain the balance between tradition and modernity positioning Marqués de Murrieta in the 21st century in a privileged position in the world.

BODEGAS MARQUES DE RISCAL, Eltziego (Álava)

This winery is composed of the old bodega Marques De Riscal (1858), one of the oldest in La Rioja, and a new building designed by the Canadian architect Frank O. Gehry which holds the 5* Marques de Riscal Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel & Spa as well as two exclusive restaurants lead by the famous Chef Francis Paniego. DAY 7 BURGOS (Bodegas Ramon Bilbao y Muga) After breakfast at our hotel we are headed to the nearby town of Haro to first visit the BODEGAS

RAMON BILBAO for a Wine Tasting, and then on to visit the BODEGAS MUGA, with a Wine

Tasting. Return to Burgos and free afternoon. Dinner with wine at the hotel. Overnight in

Burgos. NH Collection Palacio de Burgos 4*

BODEGAS RAMON BILBAO Logroño (La Rioja)

One day, Ramón Bilbao found the answer: wine would be the currency of change that would allow

him to travel the world. For months he spent calculating routes, winds, temperatures and selecting

his best broths for the expedition, and in spring 1924 departs for strange lands. Awarded as the Best

Spanish Winery of 2014 by IWSC, our utopia never stops believing. A distinguished path also as Best

Tempranillo of the World in 2011 and as Best Spanish Red in 2008.

BODEGAS MUGA, Haro (La Rioja)

Bodegas Muga is located in the historical Barrio de La Estación (railway station district) in Haro. The facilities are two centuries old, built mainly of stone and oak.

DAY 9 BILBAO (Basque Country)

Buffet breakfast and tour of the Basque city of Bilbao.

Bilbao is the heart of a metropolis with a population of more than one million people. It is the

driving force of social and economic development and the main engine in the modernization of

the Bay of Biscay. Ambitious architectural and general infrastructure projects have driven the

urban and financial regeneration of the city: the Guggenheim Museum; Euskalduna Concert Hall

and Convention Center; the subway, built by Norman Foster; and the airport, built by Calatrava

are all examples of the overwhelming vitality that permeates Bilbao. Located in the Basque

region of Bizkaia, the city is surrounded by fertile landscapes, forests, mountains and beaches.

Our guide will take us to walk through the typical streets of bars of "Tapas" where we can taste

some of the best tapas in Spain if desired. Dinner with wine at the hotel. Overnight in Bilbao.
