Cuda Policy DiscussionDress Code

• Responsibility for the dress and appearance of students enrolled in the Volusia County Public Schools primarily rests with parents and the students. • The principal or principal’s designee has the final authority for interpreting whether a student’s apparel/appearance conforms to the dress code. • If a student enters the district after the start of the school year, the student will have a grace period of five (5) school days before being required to fully comply with the dress code.• Students may wear special clothing related to a school sponsored activity or program, as permitted by the principal.

Cuda Policy DiscussionDress Code

Dress Code Procedures For Student Arrival Before 1st PeriodCampus advisors and school administrators will be vigilant and try to monitor student dress as they enter campus in the morning.  Should a dress code issue be identified the student’s name will be taken, relayed to student services via radio and the student directed to the student services office.  This procedure will be followed throughout campus for all dress code issues that are apparent before first period. Dress Code Procedures During 1st PeriodImmediately following the tardy bell, the morning announcements will direct teachers to scan the room to check for dress code issues. Teachers will direct all dress code issues to the student services office.

Dress Code Procedures Through Out The School DayIt is an expectation that all employees refer possible dress code issues to student services as the need arises.  Teachers have an obligation to direct all dress code issues to the student services office by either sending the student directly to the office with a pass or by calling the office to request a campus advisor escort the student.  Inappropriate student dress not addressed earlier in the day is not a sufficient reason to ignore inappropriate student dress later in the day.

Consequences For Inappropriate DressStudents who are sent to the office for dress code violations have the following options:

1. Student can change into acceptable clothes they may already have on campus in his/her backpack or locker.

2. Student may call home and have a change of clothes brought to them.

3. Student may wear school issued change of clothes for remainder of the day.

4. Student may correct dress code issue to the satisfaction of school administration while in student services. However, student will sign referral stating if the dress code

violation occurs again that day then a minimum of one day lunch detention will result.

1. Cell phones, iPads and other electronic devices are not for use during “academic class time” and are required to be “off and out of sight” (including silent or vibrating mode). Students may not use these items while on a pass during class time (specifically in the hallway or restroom areas).

Cuda Policy DiscussionThe 10/10 Rule

Since academic instruction is the primary focus of class time, and

students have ample time between classes to take care of personal needs the 10/10 rule will be in effect each period.

No students will be given passes to leave classrooms either the first 10 minutes of class or the last 10 minutes of class (exceptions can be made by the teacher when issuing a student pass is deemed an emergency.)
