Gungahlin Park Run

Coffee and conservation coming soon to Throsby!

The first week of May brought the first Throsby Resident’s Catch up. Resident Catch ups are an informal feedback and brainstorming session hosted Mingle every couple months. It’s a chance to meet others that live in your suburb, hear from different agencies invested in Throsby, share feedback, and brainstorm new ideas to build community connections.

For those of you who couldn’t make it, we have captured the highlights below:

Residents are keen to arrange a Halloween activity this year and are very keen to receive ideas from kids, parents and everyone in between.

With many dog owners amongst the community, Mingle are discussing ways in which you and your furry friends can mingle together.

Litter and illegal dumping were of concern to all in attendance. We shared ways in which these issues should be reported, and brainstormed ideas for encouraging active ‘rubbish picks’ within the community.

Activities for the youth are always tricky to tackle. We’d love to be able to engage your teens and are seeking ideas from them about what they’d like to be involved in. We encourage any resident interested in generating engaging and ‘out of the box’ activities for teens to get in touch.

If you’d like to hear more about any of the above, wish to be involved in seeing an idea come to life or have new ideas to share, please contact the Mingle team on 02 6205 0600 or email us at [email protected].

Are you looking for a local fitness activity to get you out of bed on a Saturday? Why not try the Gungahlin park run, a FREE 5km run held every Saturday morning at 8:00am at Yerrabi Pond in Gungahlin. Visit the course page for more details parkrun.com.au/register/

The Woodlands and Wetlands Trust shared news at the recent resident catch up of the soon to be developed Mulligans Flat Visitors Centre. A contemporary facility that will showcase the best of Australia’s biodiversity right on your doorstep. The new Centre, which will encompass a café and other community spaces, will allow people to experience the Australian landscape, and encourage conservation education, inspiring Australians to care more for their wildlife. We look forward to sharing more news on the Centre and its facilities in upcoming newsletters. Stay tuned for more!

Keeping your community safe and clean

3

We want to help residents of Throsby maintain a thriving, clean and welcoming community, where all are proud to live. With concerns around litter and illegal dumping, we share a few simple steps you can take to help.

• Picking up after your dog. Throsby is full of great areas to walk around. By cleaning up after your dog you can help keep walking through the suburb enjoyable for everyone.

• Reporting Illegal Dumping (RID). With a range of vacant blocks currently in Throsby there is a higher chance of people trying to dump household or building waste. The Suburban Land Agency have installed new CCTV cameras to aid in identifying and resolving these actions, but we cannot rely on cameras alone. If you see something, say

something – dedicated phone lines are open to receive your reports, phone RID on 13 22 81

• Take rubbish with you. If you head out for a walk, or join the family for a day in the park, please be mindful to take all your rubbish with you. Rubbish left in playgrounds are a hazard to children and to our environment.

Any other issues you notice within the suburb (broken street lights, abandoned vehicles, dangerous trees, pot holes, graffiti and more) should be reported to Fix My Street, accesscanberra.act.gov.au/app/forms/fixmystreet/. The updated website also allows you to view and track the progress of all issues raised by others.

Good to know

Next Ranger Walk

We have one last Throsby Ranger Walk scheduled for

the year, on Saturday 13 July at 7:00pm. For those who haven’t

made it before, our Ranger Walks through Mulligans Flat gives you the opportunity to join a free guided tour through the reserve at night. You will learn about the sanctuary and endangered woodlands, experience nature at night and search for nocturnal animals (we’ve seen bettongs, currawongs, wallabies, echidnas and more).

Registrations are now open. throsbyrangerseries3.eventbrite.com.au

With limited space on these tours, and always strong interest from the community, we do ask that you are considerate of your neighbours and only book if you know you can make it along. Book now and pop it straight into the diary – we look forward to seeing you there.

If you miss out on the free tour, you can book a paid tour at another time through the Mulligans Flat website. Visit mulligansflat.org.au/tours/
