GOD’S GIFT FOR GIFTING

November 13th $ 9, 542. 75 Last Year $ 7, 369. 79

A WORD FROM OUR WEEKEND ASSISTANTChrist, the King –the source of mercy! The closing ofthe Year of Mercy does not end our availability to Hismost precious gift. All of the experiences during thisyear offered opportunities that either opened us to His

gifts or reminded us of the many times and many ways thatGod has blessed us with His presence. For us to accept God'smercy requires humility of heart and a willingness to listen toHis Spirit speak within us to reveal the Father's will. That wasthe essence of Jesus' life and ministry. It is why He invited thedisciples to follow Him so that they also could reveal in theirown lives the essence of God's life and joy. In only a week, wewill begin our journey into Advent that invites us to journey intothe mystery of God's love. It is the reason why every year ofour life we relive this journey. Perhaps this time, God is invitingus to reflect on two questions. First, it would be beneficial forus to consider what God wants to be in my personal life. Then,He would like us to consider what He wants us to be in thelives of others that can be an example of faith and commitmentthat could call them to a deeper living of their faith as a witnessto our Father. The joy of God's presence within us is the depthof His mercy and His promise to us is that it unfolds into Hispeace –for us to share.

Peace, Fr. Francis

CATHOLIC HOME MISSIONS ANDMILITARY SERVICES COLLECTION

This weekend our 2nd collection will be forthe Catholic Home Missions. The CatholicHome Missions Appeal supports diocesesin the U.S. that lack the resources toprovide basic pastoral ministry to their

populations. Through annual grants, Catholic Home Missionsfunds catechesis, seminarian education, lay ministry training,Hispanic ministry and other pastoral programs in needydioceses. Catholic Home Missions impacts the lives of nearly 9million Catholics. A portion of the funds will also be used tosupport the Archdiocese for the Military Services. ThisArchdiocese is so important because it serves the pastoralneeds of those in military installations in many countries, aswell as patients in V.A. Medical Ctrs. Our priests, religious andlay ministers in the Archdiocese for the Military Services servemore than 1.8 million men, women and children. Having aCatholic presence available to those who serve us, is a greatway to express our thanks for their commitment to our country.Your support will truly make a difference. LITURGY CORNERThis weekend we celebrate the Feast ofChrist the King, the last Sunday of theLiturgical Year. Each and all of us minister

God’s presence in our own way. Each and every one of us arepart of God’s call: those who exercise special ministries andthose who are part of God’s Kingdom as worshiping assembly,as growing believers, and as serving in simple and ordinaryways to those in need. From the Baptismal Liturgy: “As Christwas anointed priest, prophet and King, so may you live out thesame calling as you walk with your brothers and sisters infaith.” This week we also celebrate the holiday of“Thanksgiving”. Saying grace at mealtime used to be a specialpart of the day for many families. Most days I’m sure that manyare eating in the car as they drive their children back and forthto their activities, in front of the TV or if you are like me and eatworking on the computer. Whether you hold hands around thetable or stand behind your chair, it can be a meaningfulexperience not only for your children, but for you too! Here is agrace that you can use for your Thanksgiving dinner (eithertake turns reading it, or run off copies for everyone). It’s entitled“Thankful for Each Other” written by Joanna Fuchs “Dear Lord,as we gather together around this table, laden with yourplentiful gifts to us, we thank you for always providing what wereally need and for sometimes granting wishes for things wedon’t really need. Today, let us be especially thankful for eachother - for family and friends who enrich our lives in wonderfulways, even when they present us with challenges, let us jointogether now in peaceful, loving fellowship, to celebrate Yourlove for us and our love for each other.” Enjoy your week! Have a blessed week and holiday! Lisa

FAITH AT HOMEAnyone would have difficulty calling apoor criminal hanging on a tree “king”.Yet, that is what we Christians call Jesus, the Word made flesh, who died on a cross:

Christ the King! Adults: What have I learned from theway Christ died? Children: Do you ask Jesus to‘remember you’ when you need help? A FamilyPerspective: Understanding today’s Feast of Christthe King may be particularly challenging. While wemay not have a direct experience of kings orroyalty, we have some sense of what these mean.We know that royalty have sovereignty over theirkingdom. We know that those who are subjects toroyalty offer them allegiance and honor. Christ isKing in a way that is different from traditionalunderstandings of royalty. Christ’s kingdom extendsto all places, all people and all times. Christmanifests His kingship through His death on theCross, in which He offers salvation to all. Recall withyour children stories that you may have read aboutroyalty. Talk with your children about what theyhave learned from these stories about what itmeans to be a king. Tell your children that thisSunday is the last Sunday in the Church Year, andon this Sunday, we celebrate a special feast calledthe Feast of Christ the King. Reflect together on howthe various people in this Gospel respond to Jesuson the Cross. Who in this Gospel recognizes Jesus asKing? (the thief) What does Jesus promise the thiefas a result? (The thief will be with Jesus in paradise).Talk about how your family will recognize and honorChrist the King. Enjoy your week! Lisa
