BA Hons Principle Design Project: Iveagh Gardens, Dublin-Culture Embassy, Dublin
The design for this project was situated in the public park of
Iveagh Gardens in Dublin and acts as a transitional layer between
the greenery of the park and the dense urban environment that
surrounds it. The brief for the project entails a series of public and
private function spaces such as a gallery, library and 2 theatres
that all together make up an embassy that would host a sharing
of culture for all the people of Ireland. The scheme is fit for
hosting events such as film festivals and art exhibitions as well as
social & public gatherings.

Development Board: Above is a photograpgh depicting a key componenet to my final exhibition for my Part 1 display. It is a collation of various models I created throughout the design development proccess of this project. It conveys the project’s evolution from one solid building to a more free flowing dispersal of volumes through the site’s dense greenery. The models were stuck to this black board and hung vertically at the top of my exhibition display.
To the top left is a photograph of an initial concept model, conveying my intention to interact with the levels in the site.To the bottom left is one the latter designs before the penultimate.
This site context model (left), and rendering (right)
depict the massing of the Embassy, in the context of
Iveagh Gardens. The scheme is placed to mindfully
co-inside with the park’s existing circulation route,
and to increase the qualities of the site, whilst taking
up as minimal a footprint as possible

The image below depicts
an elongated section of the
Embassy. In this section, the
different colours of people
occupying the various parts
of the design convey different
types of users from ocupants
(red), employees (blue), and
public users (green).
1st Semester Design Project: Beflast, Cathedral Quarter-Students’ Union Design, University of Ulster
These 2 images were created as competition summary pages for the principal design project of my first semester of 3rd year undergraduate. The scheme is an attempt to create a more fluid and approachable building in an area with buildings that refuse to interact with the street scape. The internal layout is a pragmatic approach to creating a very social building by fusing different layers of programme together.

University Project
EDUCATORIUM, OMACase Study
Group project aimed at gaining a deeper understanding of a building’s key concepts by working backwords from its design origins. Below and to the right shows a collection of images, sketches and diagrams that convey my groups findings. One of the most prominent features to the university building was its fluidity. Each of the large spaces from floor to floor are blended so much that it is difficult to determine where one zone ends, and another begins.
As a result of this conclusion, the centre piece to my case study is the large jelly model depicted to the bottom left of the page. The red jelly is used as a conceptual representation of the building’s fluid, public spaces. Embeded within the jelly, are timber made representation of the private and semi-private spaces that exist around the distinctive open space.

Hierarchy of Spaces
The photographs to the right depict a large (1200cmx700cm) case study model I created as part of a University project aimed at gaining a greater understanding of buildings by studying their core concepts.
The result of this excercise was the Jelly & Timber Model shown on these pages. The jelly was used to represent the free flowing internal spaces apparent in OMA’s ‘Educatorium’ in the Netherlands. Part of the driving force tfor the building was create spaces that were shared by all faculties of the University, and hence the spaces seem to blend together, making it difficult to determine where one begins and another ends.

design project with !melk-Pier 57, NYC
This project, which is currently approaching construction, was initially a successful internatonal competition.
I personally worked on both the conceptual and schematic phases of design for Pier 57’s roof and public promenade, as well as drafting and preparing construction documents for New York’s city planning.
The current design entails a public promenade walkway that encricles the pier and connects it to the surrounding Hudson River Parkway; a 2.5 acre skypark with undulating floor surfaces; 3 large movable, sculpted cranes with hanging gardens; as well as a giant outdoor film screen, to be managed by the Tribeca Film Festival.
