Fresh Veggies! Ever since I was young, I loved going into the
garden and grabbing fresh veggies. My grandma and grandpa
had a large vegetable farm with the best corn on the cob I
have ever eaten. I remember grandma cutting up tomato slic-
es and putting sugar on them for us. There isn’t anything like
snapping a bean off a vine, rubbing the dirt off and taking a
bite.
I guess that’s why I was so excited when I saw a member from the Waupaca
Community Garden stop in with rhubarb and radishes. Bri Grosskopf , Pat
Phair and several other folks involved in the community garden are dedicat-
ed to providing fresh produce in our community at
places like the senior center, food pantry, WIC,
bread basket, churches and more.
We want to extend a heartfelt Thank You to them.
The Community Garden will be dropping off the
fresh vegetables every Tuesday
morning during the summer
months.
We would also like to thank our Chief Hydrator for 2018,
Wallace Koehler. Wally has been watering our strawbale
gardens daily. We will be using the vegetables and herbs
from that garden for our fabulous foods programs.
Finally, the Serenity Park Committee…….you are absolutely amazing! I am
so excited about the mural, swing and the upcoming walkway and fishing
dock. This is a park developed completely by volunteers
and seniors for the entire community to enjoy. If you
haven’t seen it, please stop down and take a look.

Computer News with Forrest
Page 4 Waupaca Senior Center
Hello Computer Club: How time flies. Man, I can’t believe it’s July already. As in the past, computer classes
are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings starting at 5:30 pm. Tuesdays I will be teaching about the internet and the cloud. This class will be everything you want to know about navigating the Internet and using the Cloud so you have a better understanding of how
they work. Thursdays we will continue with Photography. In the photography class we will learn how to get your photos from camera or smart phone to your computer and hopefully a little art in be-tween. Tuesdays and Thursdays I will do an hour of teaching and the rest will be answering questions and one on one help.
Thanks and God Bless Forrest Jay Samuel Peters
Living Well With Janet
Mahjong Class to Begin this Month
Good day, all….WAU-SUP! We’re already in July and summer’s flying by! I hope you’re all enjoying it, after such a l-o-n-g winter’s night! In the last news letter I asked if anyone was interested in stand up paddleboard yoga, or “Just a good paddling?” ….As it turns out , more of
you are interested in just a good paddling! So, because I’m so sure you’ll be absolutely enthralled
with the experience of the serene surroundings of nature while being out on the water, that’s just
what we’ll do!
Just paddle boarding for Fun: Cost is reduced to $90.00 for four weeks. Classes start Wednesday, July 11th

Summer is upon us. It’s too hot to cook, right? We are all very busy. Make life easier when it comes to pre-paring the family meal. Join us on July 12th for Fabulous Healthy foods. Learn quick, easy and healthy, slow cooker dishes. From start to finish, appetizers to dessert, you will enjoy a lunch with us for only $5.00. The recipes are included of course. RSVP please….
A BIG thank you goes out to all the volunteers. The brat fry at the Piggly Wiggly store was a great success. Also thank you to all that supported the brat fry by stopping by and having a brat. Thank you to Scott & Lorrie for allowing us to hold the benefit at the Piggly Wiggly Store & for the advertising on WDUX. The proceeds will help pay for the swing in Serenity Park. Did you participate in the 4th of July parade? Another
great event the volunteers helped put together. We truly are a melting pot in America. Did you notice the mural? Again the volunteers did a wonderful job. Do you want to be a part of all that goes on at your Waupaca Senior Center? Join us for the July meeting. On Tuesday July 10th at 11:00 we will again have a meeting of the minds and discuss future events. Other upcoming events include grandpa’s grill & grandma’s lemonade stand, sock hop, volunteer luncheon, and other events in the planning.
The move to 10:00 Qi Gong on Friday mornings has been a positive change. Classes are well attended. We also offer Qi Gong on Wednesdays at 10:00. Need gentle exercise & relaxation? Join us on Wednesday morning at 9:00. The Mind/Body connection class is a great time to reflect on the positive. The gentle chair exercises help to release tension while stretching & strengthening the body. Breathe in with a sense of gratitude & love. Breathe in this positive feeling and let it into your heart and then flow through the rest of your body.
Live imperfectly with great Delight! Helen

Happy 4th of July! I hope you’ve been having a great summer so far and that you’re getting
outside as much as possible. I was beginning to wonder if winter was ever going to end Thankfully, it has and I will NOT complain about how hot or humid it is…..I’ve said many
times that I’d rather run the a/c than the furnace! Thanks to everyone who helped with the mural painting project last month AND for your continued support and loyalty to the most amazing Senior Center out there! We have the greatest members – you are the folks who make this a great place and make it enjoyable to be here. We have several events coming up this month, including the 4th of July parade. However, we will be closed on the 5th, reopening on the 9th. We have the bus trip to Madison on the 11th – it will be a long day, departing at 7:30am and returning at 8:00pm. Bring your appetites that day; lunch at a Chinese food buffet, a trip to the Dane County farmer’s market, ice cream at Babcock Hall AND a dutch treat
dinner stop (if needed) on the way home. There will be lots of walking, which means you’ll be able to
‘work off’ all that food. Speaking of bus trips, we still have lots of openings for the rest of the bus trips for this year. As of this time, we still have 18 openings for the August trip to Lake Geneva and 9 openings for the September trip to the Fireside Theater. Stop by the office for more details and to sign up. I am hoping we don’t
have to cancel any more trips this year, so I will be ‘pushing’ these trips in my classes. Also coming up this month (on the 20th) is the Brat Fry at Piggly Wiggly at 10:00 am, which will be a fund raiser for the Senior Center. As always – there’s lots going on, so read your newsletter carefully
and be sure to check the posters “hanging around” here. Have a wonderful month and enjoy the summer.
Keep smiling – it’ll make people wonder what you’re up to!
Harmonica Club: Look What it Can Do For You
Harmonica playing could be good for your health, physical and mental status. Some ex-perts believe that playing a wind instrument such as the harmonica can benefit everyone especially as we age. Blowing the blues is good for your lungs. So is just about anything else you play on a har-monica. Whether your tastes run to “Love Me Do,” “Sweet Home Chicago” or that 19th
century nonsense ditty “Oh Susanna,” as little as 10 minutes a day playing a harmonica may
give you better breathing. In fact, what they’re calling “harmonica therapy” is gaining
steam in pulmonary-rehabilitation programs across the country for people with asthma, COPD and even lung transplants. But don’t let the word “therapy” put you off. Playing
the harmonica is a ton of fun, and it’s good exercise for healthy lungs, too. We have a course for beginners on TUESDAY mornings at 10:00 am. If you don’t have a
harmonica we can order one for under $8.00 from Amazon. Come try the class out. Have fun and better your health!

Happy 4th of July, may the entire month sparkle for you!
The Wii bowlers finished their spring league on Friday May 25th. After the final games the bowlers met
at Schuellers for a wonderful lunch and a healthy dose of laughter. Thanks to Mary Kurylo, who tallied
up all of the points. Cash prizes were given out for the most points scored during the season. Josie Tron-son took 1st place, Nancy Wendtland took 2nd place and Carmen Bessette took 3rd place - congratula-
tions! The other awesome bowlers in the spring league included: Louise Buchholtz, Inez Everts, Jeanne
Falke, Wally Koehler, Mary Kurylo,Terrie Ostrander, Karen Peters and my walking buddy, Liz Rolph.
The Wii bowling lanes will sadly be quiet until the fall league begins in September, that's when the virtual pins will be
flying and the bowlers will be smiling. This is just one example of the many opportunities to connect with others and
develop friendships at the senior center.
Pool News: In the April tournament Jim Larson took 1st place and Dennis Looker took 2nd place. In the May tour-
nament Stan Golla took 1st place and Bob Dickerson took 2nd place.
ADVANCE DIRECTIVES HELP FOR YOUFinally, do you have an advance directive? Do you know the difference between a Declaration to Physicians (Living
Will) and a Power of Attorney for Health Care? If you're interested in learning more about these two state docu-
ments come to the senior center on Monday July 16th at 1:30 and I will put my nursing home social worker hat back
on to review the forms with you.

Hello carving friends. We are into our summer months and thus carving slows down some. Our group numbers drop some during the summer, but we still meet each Wednesday. There will be no carving on July 4th as we celebrate our independence. Our club meeting is scheduled for July 11th. We also plan on starting a new project then. We don’t have a pot luck planned for July due to other commitments. Stop in to see if this fun hobby is for you.
Keep your knife sharp and the chips flying. Harold
