Press Release – 17th January 2014

scabal autumn-winter 2014-2015 trends

The highest standard of weaving infused with technical innovation characterises

the Scabal collection for Autumn-Winter 2014-2015. Avoiding fashionable

gimmickry, the collection concentrates on superb quality and refined and

exquisite design for a knowledgeable clientele. A luxurious approach to a man’s

contemporary wardrobe epitomises the next season from Scabal.

Suitings

Always the keystone of the Scabal collection, its new suitings bunches offer a huge range of options in designs, weights and colours. As always, the finest yarns are used to create cloths that combine good looks with performance, but always with a luxurious attitude.

Typical of Scabal’s comprehensive approach is ETON, a highly popular selection which has been updated to offer no fewer than 91 options for next season. A Super 130’s quality weighing 280g, Eton will continue to be a best-seller all year round. At first glance many of the cloths seem to be plains, but the collection in fact contains many subtle fancy designs, such as shadow stripes, soft checks, pick-and-picks and semi-plains.

FIDELIO is the name of a new bunch that offers two options with interesting provenance. The first half comprises double plains, a 340g quality that was very popular more than 20 years ago. The nine options – all in shades of blue and grey - present a clean and modern look thanks to its false plain design that includes a motif. The other part of FIDELIO is a complementary selection on nine venetian cloths, again in the same blue and grey shades, which weigh 300g. Both qualities are woven in Scabal’s mill in West Yorkshire, England.

Building on the success of its launch two years ago, the latest CORTINA collection offers 25 wholly new designs in a milled semi-flannel finish. Qualities include Super 100’s, 120’s, 130’s and even some 150’s, with weights ranging from 290g up to 360g in a few instances. The cloths are built around bold designs such as white windowpanes on a grey ground, grey chalk stripes on a light blue ground and Saxony looks in fancy checks and some semi-plains.

Aimed squarely at the high-end market, LUXXOR is a very refined suiting that combines Super 150’s merino wool with 10% cashmere. It is inspired by luxurious designs from 30 years ago, but, woven in Scabal’s West Yorkshire mill. The 21 designs, which weigh 320g, are more than they seem at first glance. Look at the cloths from two metres and they seem almost plain; look more closely and the complexity of the soft, subtle and exquisite designs reveal themselves.

Typical of Scabal’s commitment to offer specialist cloths, SUPER 180’S & CASHMERE

FLANNEL is a small range of just five numbers that combine Super 180’s merino with 2% cashmere. The yarns are woollen yarns so the result is a very soft quality that weighs 340g. The designs are suitably classic – two chalk stripes on grey and navy grounds, a medium grey, a dark grey and a navy. The cloths are produced in Scabal’s own mill near Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, England.

Jacketings

Each season sees jacketings become even more important in the collection. As well as being an ideal leisure time option, a finely tailored jacket is increasingly acceptable as business apparel. Scabal’s extensive range for Autumn-Winter 2014-2015 brings together a huge range of appealing designs.

A very well-named bunch, FINEST JACKETINGS brings together 57 designs ranging in weight from 280 to 450 grams. All the classic designs, such as herringbones, glenchecks, houndstooths and hopsacks, are represented. Colours are also classics, like greys and rusts.

A brushed finish produces a 100% cashmere cloth that looks as good as it feels in the new CASHEEN bunch. The 320g cloths, which are woven by a specialist cashmere mill in Italy, have a very faint sheen thanks to the finish process to create a luxurious selection of just eight designs. Colours are classic favourites, such as grey, bordeaux and blue. At first glance the visual effect is of a plain cloth, but these include very subtle, diffused glenchecks and micro-design patterns to provide even more interest.

Scabal’s technical expertise has enabled it to add a 100% silk quality to this autumn-winter collection. Woven in Italy, ROYAL SILK is a new offering of only eight patterns weighing just 210g. The cloth’s brushed finish resembles brushed cashmere and makes it warm despite its light weight. The finish also means the cloth lacks the usual shininess associated with pure silk. The colour range runs from beige, greys, blues to violets.

There are undisguised sporty overtones to HERALDIC, a range of just six intriguing patters that feature motifs woven into the cloth. A royal orb, a stag’s head, a Tudor star, a coat of arms, crossed golf clubs and the Scabal lion are the motifs, which are light blue on a navy blue ground. Woven in England with Super 120’s merino and 2% cashmere, the cloth weighs 320g. While it has been designed as a jacketing, these cloths could make a very striking suit for a confident dresser.

With the party season in mind, Scabal has produced FESTIVAL, an impressive bunch of 64 designs that provides a vast range of options for special occasion jackets. The more traditional part of the offer includes five variations of fancy stripes for trousers to be worn with a morning coat to a range of black baratheas (from 280g to 440g) in Super 120s, cashmere Super 150’s, and mohair-wool Super 100’s. The more contemporary selection includes pure silk jacketings in fancy velvets, jacquards and embossed designs. Lurex threads highlight some variations, while a Super 130’s quality in black or navy presents a damask design. Typical of the restrained extravagance of this technically advanced bunch is 60-40 wool-acetate cloth that has a navy blue and black random-pattern “camouflage” design that makes a superb tuxedo.

Continuing its tradition of bringing extra-special products to the luxury market, Scabal is introducing ALPACA, a superb cloth that weighs 600g, but does not feel like it. A combination of 72% alpaca and 28% fine merino wool, the cloth has unusually long surface hair, which makes it warm without feeling heavy. Developed with a specialist mill in Italy, this extremely refined cloth needs no embellishment and so comes in just three classic colours – natural beige, a dark grey and a black. Like so many of Scabal’s cloths, it will appeal to the true connoisseur.
