The Centre will soon startlinking driving licence withAadhaar, Electronics and ITMinister Ravi Shankar Prasadsaid today.

“It would be done soon to

check the menace of multiplelicensing,” he said after inaugu-rating the Haryana DigitalSummit-2017 here.

“I have already had a word withUnion Minister for Road Transportand Highways Nitin Gadkari, in thisregard and the process to link

Aadhaar with driving licence wouldbe set in motion soon,” he said.

Referring to the debate onsecurity of Aadhaar data, Prasadsaid the biometric information —which includes iris scan and fin-gerprints — is stored in anencrypted form and is very secure.

“If you look at the physicalcard, it has my photo, says I am amale and has my permanent Patnaaddress at the back. It does nothave details like names of my par-ents, caste, religion, educationalqualification, financial income orhealth records.(PTI)

HYDERABAD, Sept 15:

Senior Congress leader MVeerappa Moily today said RahulGandhi would like to emerge asthe party president through aninternal election process, andhinted that he may assume thecharge as early as next month.

The Gandhi scion hadrecently said that he was"absolutely ready" to take up anexecutive responsibility if theparty asked him to do so.

The former Union ministersaid that Rahul's taking overwould be a game-changer forthe party.

"He (Rahul) should immedi-ately take over as Congress presi-dent. That's good for the party,good for the country," Moily said.

"Everybody (in Congress)feels it is (his elevation) delayed.Now, he (Rahul) is waiting fororganisation elections. He wouldlike to emerge as the president ofAICC only out of the electionprocess," he said.

The internal election processin states is expected to be com-pleted this month, which wouldbe followed by the one at theAICC level, the former chiefminister of Karnataka said.

Asked if he expected Rahulto take over next month, Moilysaid, "Possibly yes".

On what needs to be done toboost the prospects of theCongress, he said, "RahulGandhi is doing it. We will haveto address the issues in respectof each of the state, becauseeach state is different from therest. So, that requires state-wisestrategies not only for the com-ing state elections but also par-liamentary polls in 2019."

Moily said Rahul has a "newapproach and new method".

"...Definitely very much root-ed with the legacy of theCongress party. It (Rahul becom-ing Congress president) is agame-changer. Not only game-changer but also Congress is well-rooted in continuity and legacy...With Congress virtues, he has anattitude for change, and he will dothat," Moily said.

On what he wants Rahul todo once he assumes charge,Moily said he has to "first thor-oughly reshuffle the people whoare in-charge of the states,reshuffle immediately within atime-frame, all the state-levelorganisations right from grass-roots levels. These things willhave to be reorganised."

"Our policy at the nationaland state levels should be reori-ented and published so that peo-ple think there is always analternative to the present NDAgovernment," he said.

On the coming Assemblyelections in Karnataka, Moilysaid, "Congress will come outwith absolute majority. There isno question of BJP comingback."

Moily charged the BJP withfailure to honour election promis-es and alleged that the economyand exports have sharplydeclined. "They (NDA govern-

ment) have failed miserably. Thisis a worst scenario. The myth ofthe present NDA government willexplode during the Lok Sabhaelections in 2019," he said.

On the government favour-ing bringing petroleum productsunder the ambit of GST, Moily,the former oil minister, indicat-ed that it would have to be doneeventually.

"That (proposal to bringpetrol and diesel under GST)cannot be opposed. It has to bebrought under the GST today ortomorrow; instead of bringing itin future they have brought it(proposed now). (But) the man-ner in which they are hiking thepetrol and diesel prices is totallyunjustified," he said.(PTI)
