    PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Welcome to “A Chorus Line”, the second production of WVLO Musical Theatre Company’s 52nd Season, the 40th Anniversary celebration of those unsung heroes of the American Musical Theatre—the chorus dancers who back up the stars and make them look even more talented than they are. Our final production of this season will be “Catch Me If You Can”, based on the hit film that starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks.

It will open with “Bullets Over Broadway”, a South Bay Premiere of Woody Allen’s Broadway hit, followed by “Sister Act, A Divine Comedy”, based on the popular film starring Whoopi Goldberg and closing with another great musical comedy, Monty Python’s “Spamalot”.

    A Note from the Director

I have a particular connection with this show as I was 1 of the original 15 dancers asked to meet weekly at a dance studio in NYC late at night to discuss ‘why’ one became a dancer, or ‘how’ one took the path to become one. The reasons varied. . . some using it as an escape or some because it came naturally. We would also discuss what other aspirations we had in show business, maybe becoming a designer of costumes, lights, sets, or having desires to choreograph, which we did for each other over a 6-month period. All our sessions, and answers were put into a tape recorder as we let it pour out from ones heart and soul. We were all honest, and true about all our responses.

So, what you are about to hear, and see is not from a writer sitting down with a pen and paper, and creating these characters, but rather true stories that gave the reason of ‘why’ and ‘how’ one wanted, needed, and loved to dance.

This production is for anyone who ever put on a dance shoe.... tap, jazz, ballet or ballroom, and sacrificed during their lifetime by giving their total commitment and dedication to earn the title and honor of being called ‘a dancer’.

“Dancers are considered insane by those who cannot hear the music.” —unknown

    Enjoy, ah 5,6,7,8....
