A Note from the Director

There is something to be said about the way our stage of life influences the way we respond to tragedy . As teens, when there is nothing but potential and possibility, we tend to face the world with resiliency,

energy, fearlessness, and excitement . Tragedies happen, but instead of cowering under the heavy weight of loss, a youthful response might more likely be one of movement—moving through the tragedy to overcome it, fix it, change it or change the world that created it in the first place . Life seems long and difficulties seem to fade quickly . And they can’t stand still .

As we age, we are confronted with the reality that life is short . Time is precious, and people we love are paramount in our priorities . With this awareness, adults, especially parents, often face tragedy differently . When confronted with loss, they might want to cocoon, shelter, avoid, and protect . The result of tragedy stirs in them a sense of fear, a heaviness, a powerlessness, a desire to avoid anything and everything that could possibly lead to another tragedy . They stand still .

The message that Footloose inspires for us is that sometimes, whether we are young or old, when the pressures of the world are heavy, when the stresses of life and loss are overpowering, or when it seems that “time is holding you down”…you’ve got to cut loose of those heavy chains . Let go . Release . And dance with the people you love…as often as you can!

WHO’S WHO IN OUR CASTAlly Boles (Ensemble) Ally returns for her third WVLO production, having

previously performed in “Oklahoma!” and “The Boy Friend” . She is a 16-year-old Sophomore at Westmont HS who has been singing for 8 years, dancing for 10 years, and has been training with Upper Floor Studio for 2 years . She has been in over 20 productions and her favorite roles include Sandy in “Grease”, Scuttle in “The Little Mermaid” and Princess Jasmine in “Aladdin” . She was recently awarded the Gypsy Robe Award for her performance in “Bring It On” at Presentation HS . Ally was given the amazing opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall in the NY Pops Gala this past April . Besides being on stage, Ally enjoys spending time with friends & cheerleading and wants to thank you all for coming and hope you enjoy the show .

Christopher Brady (Chuck Cranston) Christopher marks his third WVLO production, his first was in 2007 when he played Benjamin in “Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and the other was the leading role in last fall’s “Nice Work If You Can Get It” . His list of credits includes several performances in his former HS, Bellarmine College Preparatory, in such roles as Freddy in “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels”, the lion in “The Wiz” and Selsdon in “Noises Off” . Christopher hopes you enjoy this show!

Michael Brothers (Coach Roger Dunbar) Michael is also back for his third show with WVLO . With a background in music, he plays several instruments and our regular patrons will remember him for his “Big Bass” playing in “Crazy For You” as well as his banjo pickin’ in “Oklahoma!” . Though something of a newcomer to musical theater, Michael is no stranger to the stage, having performed with a number of theater groups and in a variety of musical reviews across North America . He loves working with all of the WVLO gang and says it’s like having a really, really, really big family . .and the audiences are the best! Michael is so grateful to be able to give something back to the community by sharing some of the joy that music and live theater has given him for so many years .

Rebecca Brownson (Betty Blast) Becky first appeared with WVLO in a 1980 production of “Good News” . She appeared in or worked backstage on many of our productions in the 1980’s . She then took a long hiatus to raise her family before rejoining WVLO in “Hello, Dolly” in 2003 . Since then she has been involved in a number of our productions both acting and directing . She has directed our recent productions of “Oklahoma!”, “Fiddler On The Roof”, “Sugar”, “The Sound Of Music”, “Big River” and “Oliver”, and was most recently seen in “Crazy For You” as Ms . Fodor and “Bells Are Ringing” as Sue the owner of the answering service . Becky has also been in shows with TheatreWorks, Tabard, SBMT, SCP, SJCLO and other organizations . She enjoys the support of her husband, Don, who is often seen in our orchestra pit playing trombone!
