A Note from the Director

Dames At Sea” is just a feel-good, easy-going, fun-filled show. The plot is simple, and deals with 3 kinds of relationships: 1) falling in love; 2) reconnecting; and 3) discovering an “old flame”.

It is the kind of show where you can sit back, forget your everyday woes, and just be entertained.

So set your anchor down, and enjoy!

He believes this production marks his 50th in his career and plans to take a breath after this show to pay the bills. Second job, here he comes!!!

Samantha Stidham (Ensemble) Samantha is back for her ninth productions with WVLO, most recently seen in her ERMA-award-winning performance as Jane in “Irene” last season. Some of her favorite shows she has appeared in at WVLO include Jan “Grease”, Rosemary in “How To Succeed…” and Marge in “Breaking Up Is Hard To Do”. She has also worked on our stage crew over the years in a few of our shows. Other credits include performances with FMT, PYT, SCP, TITM and YPT. Samantha is a graduate of the Foothill Theatre Conservatory and most recently earned her make-up certification from the Academy for Salon Professionals to use in her theatrical endeavors and more. Robert Summers (Ensemble) Robert returns for his seventeenth production with WVLO, his most memorable was in the role of Jim in “Big River” which earned him the ERMA Award for Best Supporting Actor. Other credits on our stage include roles in “Jesus Christ Superstar”, “Cats”, “Aida”, “Damn Yankees”, “Will Rogers Follies”, “Guys & Dolls”, “42nd Street”, “South Pacific”, “How To Succeed…” (twice), “Camelot”, “King & I”, “Man Of La Mancha”, “A Funny Thing…Forum” and “Music Man”. He performed in “Les Miserables” with the Monterey Peninsula College and in “A Change Of Heart” with 8 Tens and 8 in Santa Cruz. He recently performed a double-run of “Tomfoolery”, a musical revue of comedian Tom Lehrer both in SC and SF where he and another cast mate did “The Elements” as a gangster rap. Last fall you may have seen Peter in Great America’s HAUNT as the Cajun voodoo man with the snake. He had a wonderful time getting paid to scare people, describing it as ‘Theater without the 4th wall’. Other roles include Rolf in “The Sound Of Music”, Harry Beaton in “Brigadoon”, Scrooge, Harold Hill and Joey the jock in “Zombie Prom”, Baby John in “West Side Story”, Benjamin in “Joseph…Dreamcoat” and the Lion in “The Wiz”. WHO’S WHO ON OUR STAFFElizabeth Dale (Producer) Elizabeth was Assistant Producer on our first show this season and now moves up to Producer for this production. Her involvement during the past 27 years has included various Staff positions, such as SM, ASM, stage crew, lighting crew in addition to assisting most of the other staff positions. She has served on the Board of Directors for several years and is one of our most dedicated volunteers. She has always received major

support from her husband, Lester, during their 59 years of marriage, and soon to reach 60 years! Congratulations, you two; that’s very special.

Earl Masuda (Assistant Producer) This is Earl’s 20th WVLO production since 2008! He’s been in the Cast or Staff and involved with the crew for all of them. Earl’s favorite role was being in the quartet in “Breaking Up Is Hard To Do”. Earl sends thanks to his wife, Pat, sons Matt & Chris, for putting up with him during productions and lastly, thanks his family and friends for their continued support.Nancy Kwong (Associate Producer) Nancy produced our first show of the season, “Nice Work If You Can Get It” and now joins the other Producers for her thirteenth assignment. She has performed, choreographed and served as a Board Member and at last year’s Banquet was honored for her 35 years with the Association. She earned her BA from CSU and MBA in Speech Pathology at SJSU and applies that knowledge and teaching skills in the OGSD.

In her spare time, she manages to keep up with her charming and talented boys, Cameron and Riley.

Richard Krishnan (Music Director) Richard is making his musical director debut with WVLO in this production. He has previously played woodwinds in the pit here starting back in 2010 with “White Christmas”. When he is not conducting or playing shows throughout the Bay Area, he is usually teaching music at a variety of schools, from elementary to High School, as well as private lessons. He also runs a saxophone ensemble and arranges most of

the music for them as well as other chamber groups in which he plays or coaches. Welcome, Richard!

Jesse Sanchez (Resident Music Director and this show’s Vocal Director) Jesse returns for his third WVLO production in this Staff position; his first was “Irene” and then “Nice Work If You Can Get It” last Fall. He was Music Director for “The Boy Friend” last season. He has played trumpet in many of our pit orchestras since the age of 14 and currently serves as Director of Instrumental and

Page 16: SARATOGA CIVIC THEATER - WVLO Dames at Sea.pdf · “Mulan, Jr.” at Pac. Rep. Theatre (*Tap Choreography*) In addition to coaching and choreographing for dance competitions throughout

14

Choral Music at Westmont HS. A graduate of Lincoln HS and the University of Idaho, Jesse was a finalist for the Comcast Bay Area All-Star Teacher Of the Year and the Music Educator Grammy Award. As always, he sends love to his precious family and friends.

Andrea Furtado (Choreographer) Andrea makes her debut in this Staff position, but she has appeared ON our stage in “The Drowsy Chaperone”, “Sugar”, “Crazy For You” and last Fall in “Nice Work If You Can Get It”! She’s been dancing for 23 years of her young life and earned her BA in Dance from SJSU and performed with the program’s company called ‘Company One’. She has taught dance for six years at Atlas at the Branham Dance Center choreographing

many numbers each year. She has also directed and choreographed for elementary schools in the past few years as well. She extends her thanks to everyone for their support.

Andrew Duprey (Scenic Designer) Andrew is delighted to be designing his first set for WVLO. His last set design was for “Cinderella” (carriage and all!) at Del Mar HS. He has designed and supervised construction of some 20 shows in the CUHS and Elementary School districts, in support of his children’s involvement in theater, though his favorite has to be the rats climbing the walls during “The Pied Piper” at his son’s elementary

school. He is a Recreation Therapist in Polytrauma at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System.

Michael Glenn Munoz (Lighting Designer) This will be Michael’s 53rd WVLO production, having created the lighting design for all of our musicals last season. Other lighting credits include CCMT, SCPL, SSCP, Teatro Vision, LTSJ, Woodminster Amphitheater and dozens of productions with SBMT, his most recent was “Forever Plaid” on this same stage. Michael earned his BA in Fine Arts from SJSU with a Minor in Dance. He was honored to be

invited to design VMT’s production of “Broadway Unplugged” with the cast of “Wicked” and friends at the Ford Amphitheater in LA.

Michael MacKenzie (Stage Co-Manager) This will be Mike’s 40th production with WVLO, his most recent in “Nice Work If You Can Get It” in the same Staff position. He was responsible for the smooth transitions in those set changes which were as entertaining as the actual scenes! The majority of his time has been spent on stage crew, but he often dons a character costume to appear onstage (which he’s done on several occasions!) He is a retired electronics

tech and his hobby is photography. Mike also loves to travel, but he especially enjoys ‘manipulating’ the sets and his crew!
