VIETNAM IN FOCUS PHOTOGRAPHY TOUR
This trip takes us to Lao Cai province, in the far north of
Vietnam, for an unforgettable moto-photo adventure among the
stunning rice terraces and valleys around Sa Pa. We will pass
through the bustling hill town on our way to tranquil Ban Ho
village, and a homestay with our Tay minority friends. On the way,
we encounter many people of the Hmong and Dzao minorities, giving
us an opportunity to document their lives through landscape,
relationship and portrait photography. Our stay in Ban Ho includes
a trek up through the terraces to a scenic Dzao village, a swim at
a beautiful waterfall and stream, and a chance to enjoy the
hospitality and delicious cuisine of our hosts. During the course
of the trip, we will compose a 7 picture story reflecting life
around Sa Pa.
Tour Leader Colm Pierces work has featured in numerous
publications worldwide, including The Guardian (UK), LA Times (USA)
and Le Figaro (France). A speaker of English, French and
Vietnamese, he has been leading acclaimed tours for Vietnam in
Focus since 2012.

TOUR PLAN 2 days / 3 nights
Day 1 8:30pm We meet at Hanoi Railway Station, Tran Quy Cap
Street, to board our train at 9pm.
Day 2 5am We arrive at Lao Cai Station, have a quick shower and
breakfast before picking up our bikes. After a brief overview of
camera settings and composition we head up into the mountains for a
beautiful morning ride to Sa Pa. 10am In Sa Pa, we stop for
mid-morning coffee, then take an hour or so to explore the town. We
have an early lunch in Sa Pa, then begin our spectacular journey
towards Ban Ho village. The route takes us past stunning rice
terraces and through Hmong stilt house villages, as we work on
aspects of composition for great travel photography. 2pm We arrive
in Ban Ho village and have time for a rest before heading up to the
waterfall and pools on the mountain nearby for a refreshing swim.
4:30pm Before dinner, we select and edit our pictures from the days
exploration. 6pm Dinner
Day 3 7am Breakfast at the homestay, and then we will head out
for a trek to a Dzao village. During the walk, we will look in more
detail at portraiture and detail shots. Our time in the village
gives us an opportunity to see how the Dzao live and work at
home.
11:30am Lunch at the homestay. Before we hit the road again to
return to Lao Cai, we have a couple of hours to relax or return to
the waterfall for a final swim.
2pm We head back up the valley to Sa Pa, stopping for coffee and
shopping in town.
5pm Our train back to Hanoi leaves at 8:30 pm, so we have time
for dinner and final picture selection before climbing aboard the
Sapaly Express.
8:30 pm - Our train departs Lao Cai.
Day 4 5am We arrive back in the capital. Coffee and
farewell.
