ScUBApRO dEdicATEd niTROX SYSTEMSNitrox (oxygen enriched air) is the term used to describe breathing gases made of oxygen nitrogen mixes with the oxygen percentage higher than 21% (air). SCUBAPRO offers two fully dedicated Nitrox systems based on our piston first stages and developed in compliance with the most stringent safety norms on breathing apparatuses.

Owning a SCUBAPRO dedicated Nitrox regulator means you can •

safely dive using oxygen enriched air with over 21% and up to 100% oxygen concentration at a maximum working pressure of 200bar, in full compliance with EU norms EN 13949:2004 & EN 144-3:2004 for breathing devices.

ScUBApRO fiRST STAGE REGULATORSThe task of the first stage of a regulator system is quite simple: reduce high pressure air coming from the tank to a consistent intermediate pressure. First stage regulators are divided into piston and diaphragm categories, depending on the mechanism used to control the valve allowing air to flow to the second stage. Piston first stages can be further classified between balanced and classic downstream piston design, with specific function and performance of the first stage related to pressure changes in the tank.

SCUBAPRO PISTON TECHNOLOGY The general advantage of a piston first stage lies in its reliability and reduced maintenance requirements, due to an effective but simpler mechanism with less moving parts. More importantly, no other design can reach the high air delivery rate of a balanced piston controlled first stage.

Air-balanced flow-through piston - First stages with air-balanced pistons deliver significantly more air to the second stage than any other first stage, plus their performance is totally unaffected by changing tank pressure. A balanced piston allows the use of lighter and more sensitive components, resulting in ultra fast breathing response, instant delivery of air on demand, and extra high air flow, especially in low tank pressure ranges. The tired diver benefits from a smoother breathing regulator during the ascent or deco stop. Balanced piston first stages are the first choice of demanding sport divers and professionals, and perform equally well in warm and cold water environments. This technology is featured in our MK25 first stages.

Classic downstream piston - The best example of bulletproof reliability and trouble-free, minimum maintenance regulators. The classic downstream piston configuration is the simplest mechanism that exists to control the pressure drop from a tank to feed the second stage. The classic downstream valve is the first choice of diving centers and rental facilities worldwide for warm and moderate water temperatures. This technology is featured in our MK2 PLUS first stage.

A high quality second stage can significantly reduce stress and enhance diver safety by providing smooth, low-effort breathing response, resulting in ample yet controllable quantities of air. The designations balanced and classic downstream are also distinguishing marks for second stages. They deliver ultimate flow performance and stability in addition to reliability, simplicity and solid performance. While all SCUBAPRO first and second stages are fully compatible, some combinations will result in more effective and higher performance systems.

AIR-BALANCED VALVE TECHNOLOGY The air-balanced valve technology of SCUBAPRO second stages features a balancing chamber in the second stage mechanism, slightly offsetting the force of the downstream air entering from the first stage. This allows reduced spring tension and decreases the inhalation resistance to the lowest possible level. The result is super smooth breathing in all conditions. Air-balanced valve technology is featured in S-Series and G-Series second stages. For best results, they should be teamed with balanced first stages like the MK25 or MK17.

CLASSIC DOWNSTREAM VALVE TECHNOLOGY Classic downstream valves are particularly noted for their legendary safety and reliability. When in use, the downstream valve opens in the same direction as the incoming airflow. To close the valve and stop the airflow, a spring counteracts the force of the incoming air. Therefore, a slight inhalation effort is always required to overcome the spring tension and open the valve. SCUBAPRO R-Series robust and reliable R395 and R295 are examples of this design. They are best teamed with the MK17, MK11 or MK2 PLUS first stages.

ADJUSTABLE SECOND STAGE REGULATORS The human breathing process is unique and individual — rather intuitive — and taken for granted at the surface. However, once underwater and dependent on a regulator, we suddenly realize how uniquely we breathe, and how important a regulator can be. The harsher the diving conditions, the higher the flexibility and response we demand from a second stage regulator. This is why SCUBAPRO has implemented diver-adjustable functions on many of our second stage regulators.

Diver-adjustable inhalation effort - This feature enables the diver to adjust breathing effort via an oversized control knob. It is available on the A700, S600 and G250V second stages. All other second stages feature a pre-set inhalation effort that suits the most common diving conditions and can be fine-tuned at an Authorized SCUBAPRO Dealer on request.

Venturi-Initiated Vacuum Assist (VIVA) - Another SCUBAPRO patented feature, VIVA is available on all SCUBAPRO second stages. VIVA uses the power of a vacuum assist to reduce work of breathing and increase breathing comfort. It is diver adjustable on all current SCUBAPRO second stages except the R295, which is intentionally designed for diver training courses, rental facilities, and divers demanding ready-to-use equipment. A VIVA in MAX position gives powerful breathing support on every single breath. A VIVA in MIN position helps prevent free flow on the surface, ideal for training, buddy breathing, in currents, or when used as an octopus.

Characteristics such as natural and low-effort breathing behaviour, minimum flow resistance, drag of the second stage while swimming, freedom of movement and overall low effort contribute to enhancing comfort. Below are some key comfort features of SCUBAPRO regulators.

Orthodontic mouthpiece - SCUBAPRO uses a comfortable orthodontic mouthpiece on every second stage to reduce jaw fatigue and gum irritation. It was developed by dentists and dental laboratories and lasts longer than any other mouthpiece, because only a minimum effort is needed to hold it comfortably in place.

Twin opposing high pressure ports - The arrangement of high and low pressure hoses is crucial to diving comfort. Two opposing high pressure ports facilitate individual positioning of the first stage (pointing up or down). This allows the diver to position the gauges either on the right or left side and increases the freedom of movement for head and neck. Featured on all first stages except the MK2 PLUS.

Multiple low pressure ports - For ultimate freedom in the arrangement of low pressure hoses, the MK25 accommodates 5 HF (high flow) ports on a swiveling turret, which allows for 360 degree swivel of hoses. The MK17 and MK11 feature four stationary low pressure ports, two of them are HF. High flow ports deliver about 15% more air than conventional ports.

DIN/INT first stage configurations - To ensure worldwide compatibility, all SCUBAPRO regulator systems are available in a 232bar INT version as well as 300bar DIN version.

Externally-adjustable intermediate pressure - Allows authorized SCUBAPRO service technicians to quickly fine tune or make adjustments after maintenance without the need to disassemble the first stage. Featured on the MK25, MK17 and MK11 first stages.

BALANCED TECHNOLOGY

THREE TYPES OF SCUBAPRO BCSDifferent needs, various solutions. Here is a quick look at the three types of SCUBAPRO BCs.

Front-adjustable jackets - Front-adjustable jackets allow variations of fit, regardless of the thickness of suit worn. Quick-release adjustable shoulder buckles make this style of BC very easy to put on and take off, making it popular for training and dive centers and for all levels of recreational divers. A variety of styles and sizes offer a custom-like fit.

Stabilizing jackets - Stabilizing jackets were invented by SCUBAPRO. They feature the most harmonious buoyancy control of all by utilizing unrestricted internal passageways to allow air to flow continuously throughout the jacket and accumulate at the highest point. The diver is surrounded by this bubble and moves easily and precisely underwater. On the surface, it supports a comfortable and relaxed “face up” floating position.

Back flotation jackets - Back flotation jackets are the BCs of choice for divers preferring a totally uncluttered chest area. The design positions the air bladder on the sides of the tank, rather than under the arms or over the shoulders of the diver. SCUBAPRO integrates this design with a patented back flotation harness that provides superior load carrying technology designed for increased comfort on prolonged or repeated dives. Underwater, it helps the diver automatically attain a horizontal floating position.

DESIGNED TO LASTA robust jacket is highly resistant to punctures and abrasion, and carries heavy load tanks without compromising longevity and comfort. SCUBAPRO achieves this by using the best materials, reinforcements and seam constructions.

Materials and reinforcements - The core bladders of our BCs are made with Cordura® 500 or 1000. Polyester and nylon are then selectively chosen to reinforce the most exposed areas of our BCs.

Seam construction - SCUBAPRO was the first manufacturer to use a high-tech method of welding to achieve a flawless seal on all jackets made from polyurethane-backed nylon. The use of high-power radio waves bonds the polyurethane material, resulting in a very strong and long-lasting seam.

DESIGNED FOR COMFORT AND PEACE OF MINDA comfortable jacket disperses the tank load evenly to the diver’s hip area — away from chest and shoulders — and offers soft interior padding. It conforms securely to the diver’s body to minimize drag and provide a nonrestrictive fit around shoulders and waist.

Integrated weight system - Most SCUBAPRO jackets have a U.S. patented integrated weight system to replace the traditional weight belt. Weights are carried in separate pouches that slip into specially-designed pockets at the waist. The pockets are closed and secured with oversized buckles that prevent weight pouches from falling out during the dive. These weight pockets accommodate up to 10kg (5kg each), which is usually sufficient weight for a recreational diver using a wetsuit. Weight integrated pockets help to avoid sore hips and backache, usually caused by weight belts, and are easy to handle even with thick gloves.

Trim weight - In most jackets, rear trim pockets are located on both sides of the tank and hold at least 1,5kg of non-releasable weights each. Together with front pocket weights, they optimize diver‘s trim and adjust to varying equipment configurations and diving conditions.

Super cinch tank band - No other system offers the strength, security, and reliability of SCUBAPRO’s proprietary stainless steel cam action buckle system: Engineered to allow both ease of adjustment plus a secure grip on the tank.

DESIGNED FOR SAFETY AND CONTROLA safe jacket enables you to react quickly to changing conditions while providing sufficient lift capacity. SCUBAPRO BCs achieve this with perfectly-positioned air release valves (dump valves) reachable and effective in any position. The diver can add the right amount of air instantly upon demand using the SCUBAPRO BPI (Balanced Power Inflator) or the optional AIR2 (Alternate Inflator Regulator). These features ensure stability and facilitate precise changes in underwater body position.

Dump valves - Because divers are not always in an upright position when they need to vent air, SCUBAPRO jackets feature several dump valves at different positions: on the right shoulder, equipped with an easy to find lanyard handle; on the left shoulder, integrated in the corrugated hose; in the rear at waist level, for a diver in a head-down position.

BPI (Balanced Power Inflator) and AIR2 - The compact SCUBAPRO BPI inflates and deflates at the touch of a button. It features special soft-touch, ergonomically shaped buttons for a good grip and easy, one hand operation with gloves. The specially designed red color inflation button for easy distinguish. All of our jackets come standard with BPI and inflation pressure hose which is fabricated with Kevlar® reinforcement with a neoprene coating, giving flexibility regardless of water temperature changes, guaranteeing maximum flow and resistance.

The single-hosed AIR2 is two products in one, integrated balanced power inflator and alternate air source. Great for travel, it eliminates the need for an additional octopus hose.

Lift capacity - All jackets need a minimum internal volume to allow sufficient air to be injected inside to reach neutral buoyancy, and when needed, to create lift for ascent and flotation on the surface. European Norms require a minimum lift capacity in relation to the size of the tank used, measured in kilograms. This is a comfort and safety issue because a jacket also needs to be streamlined to reduce drag in order to save energy when swimming.

Tank sizes - Our T-Line BCs are all CE approved using a maximum size 15 liter tank (depending on jacket size). Our T-Black BC can carry up to an 18 liter tank.

surface with at least the set gas reserve. Transmitters only need to be paired once and our coded transmission technology prevents interference.

PDIS (Profile Dependent Intermediate Stops) optimizes •

your dive in complete security. The PDIS option calculates an intermediate stop based on how much nitrogen uptake your body has endured, taking into account your current dive, previous dives and breathing mixes. The all new Galileo platform is our most recent state-of-the-art breakthrough and delivers the future of diving today. Galileo by UWATEC is as revolutionary for diving as Galileo Galilei’s discoveries were for XVIIth century science. And science is the essence of Galileo.

ADAPTIVE TECHNOLOGYBÜHLMANN ZH-L8 ADT (ADAPTIVE) ALGORITHMIntuitive and innovative, adaptive computers from UWATEC are a step ahead of standard computers. Using the Bühlmann ZH-L8 ADT mathematical algorithm, these computers adapt to diver behaviours and environmental conditions, accounting for such variables as workload, water temperature, ascent rate, even pulmonary shunt during surface intervals.

MICROBUBBLE MANAGEMENT BÜHLMANN ZH-L8 ADT MB (ADAPTIVE MICROBUBBLE) ALGORITHMThis variation of the Bühlmann algorithm enables divers to reduce the effects of microbubble build up. Microbubbles are tiny but potentially highly dangerous bubbles that can build up in a diver’s tissues. Often present without visible symptoms, they could damage soft tissues and lead to decompression illness. The ZH-L8 ADT MB algorithm features six diver selectable microbubble suppression levels: from L0 (minimum microbubble reduction corresponding to the UWATEC ZH-L8 ADT algorithm) to L5 (highest degree of microbubble reduction). Divers can program the level of microbubble reduction according to their personal preference and diving environment. In practical terms, the diver will have either shorter no-stop times or deeper and longer decompression stops (level stops) than when diving with L0. As a consequence, the body will either take up less nitrogen, or will be able to off-gas more before returning to the surface, therefore reducing the amount of microbubbles present in the body at the end of the dive.

MULTI–GAS DIVINGBÜHLMANN ZH-L8 ADT MB PMG (PREDICTIVE MULTI-GAS)Galileo Sol, Aladin TEC 2G and Smart TEC computers feature a predictive multi-gas algorithm (available as an upgrade on the Galileo Terra), which takes into account all planned gas switches throughout the dive. In the background, the algorithm also calculates the decompression schedule for the currently active gas only, so if you fail to switch to the “deco gas” at the planned depth, the computer can quickly revert to this calculation. This means the decompression schedule shown on the display gives you the actual total time of ascent. For your convenience, a gas switch is suggested automatically by the computer once you reach the planned switch depth, but the diver must confirm the switch manually. A switch can also be initiated manually at any time, giving you total flexibility in the use of the deco gas(es), always with an up-to-date decompression calculation.

NITROX COMPATIBILITYAll UWATEC dive computers are Nitrox compatible. Nitrox is the term used to describe breathing gases made of oxygen-nitrogen mixes with the oxygen percentage higher than 21%. Because Nitrox contains less nitrogen than air, there is less nitrogen loading on the diver’s body at the same depth as compared to breathing air. However, the increase in oxygen concentration in Nitrox implies an increase in oxygen partial pressure (ppO2) in the breathing mix at the same depth, which can have toxic effects on the human body. UWATEC computers keep you safe from these potential negative effects:

They have a maximum operating depth alarm alerting divers when •

the partial pressure of oxygen (ppO2) reaches the maximum allowed level (ppO2max).

They “track” the exposure by means of the Central Nervous •

System Oxygen (CNS O2) clock. At levels of 100% and higher there is risk of long exposure effects, and consequently an alarm will be activated when this level of CNS O2 is reached.

TRUE REMAINING BOTTOM TIME (RBT) CALCULATED WITH GALILEO SOL AND SMART GAS-INTEGRATED COMPUTERSThe RBT is the time divers can spend at the current depth before needing to ascend in order to be on the surface with the minimum gas reserve as set in the dive computer (range is 20-120bar, default 40bar). Galileo Sol and Smart dive computers calculate the RBT by taking into consideration all parameters which affect the ascent, such as tank pressure, breathing rate, depth, ideal ascending speed, all incurring and upcoming decompression obligations and the set tank reserve. In addition, tank pressure is temperature compensated in order to correctly follow the diver during an ascent through thermoclines. Once all of these factors have been considered, Galileo Sol and Smart dive computers calculate the actual RBT, while constantly monitoring each variable and updating the calculation if needed to ensure that the RBT is always accurate.

SMART TRAK AND INFRARED TECHNOLOGY

Infrared technology allows divers to interface wirelessly and without hassle with a personal computer, for example to download their dive profiles. Smart TRAK is a dedicated software application which lets divers log, organize, analyze and print the details of each dive, taking advantage

of the 4-second sampling rate in UWATEC dive computers’ memory; it also allows for customized dive computer settings, including features and alarms. This powerful, full-color software is supplied with every UWATEC dive computer and is compatible with Windows Vista. UWATEC also supports other platforms such as Windows CE, Macintosh and Palm OS with dedicated software. Free updates for all software are available for download at scubapro.com.

INFRARED INTERFACE (IRDA)If your PC does not have an infrared port, this interface plugs into the USB port for quick and simple downloading from your UWATEC dive computer. Multi-flex - Four-way-stretch nylon weave that creates comfort and better fit without compromising robustness and durability. Used in selected models in critical areas where added flexibility is required.

Heliospan - Superfine fleece weave used for interior lining. Smooth and comfortable against the skin and easy to take on and off. Soaks up and holds water, providing extra insulation to keep you warm and comfortable.
