thought. Then I can get over it completely without the other person ever knowing about my struggle. Monthly Debt Reduction Report Beginning Balance 8-01-17 $4,808,652.67 Interest due $18,267.32 Payment -$30,000.00 Balance 8-31-17 $4,796,919.99 Patriot Day

Patriot Day is observed every September 11 to mark the anniversary of the terrorist attack against the United States. Patriot Day fall on Monday this year, so

before each weekend Mass we will take a moment of silence to remember those who lost their lives on that tragic day 16 years ago, as well as those First Responders, both men and women, who lost their lives since in military service and for their families. Remember to pray for peace. The following is a excerpt from a reflection of Fa-ther Joseph Bayne, OFMCONV, Chief Chaplain of the Erie County Emergency Services, chaplain of the Buffalo Fire Department and Executive Director of the Franciscan Center, a runaway homeless youth shelter, in Buffalo, New York. He wrote this on the tenth anniversary of 9/11, which is still very relevant: “In the days following the tragedy, some said they saw the face of the devil in the smoke at Ground Zero. Many asked me about the same, and my an-swer hasn't changed in 10 years. No, I did not see the devil's face at Ground Zero. I saw the face of God in the people working, caring, sweating, crying, rescuing, recovering and being very spiritual in their very humanness. I was moved and changed and felt God's hand in the goodness that followed such tragedy. My ministry embodied the prayer of Saint Francis, "Lord, make me an instrument of your peace." Have a great week and I pray that our Lord contin-ue to bless you abundantly with his love and for the protection of our patron, Peter the Apostle.

In Christ’s Peace,

For Jesus forgiveness does not begin with the of-fender but with the one offended (victim). For-giveness is not to be confused with reconciliation. Reconciliation is the restoration of the relationship between the parties involved. Forgiveness is an act of will, while reconciliation is an act of the heart. So often I hear people say, “I just can’t forgive.” The reason for this is that most people believe that for-giveness automatically includes reconciliation. Not so. These are two different processes and one does not always follow the other. Last week we heard Jesus say, “If you wish to be my disciple, you must pick up your cross and come after me.” Forgiveness at times is our cross. But as I said last weekend, “Jesus carries our cross with us.” With His help each of us has the power to forgive anyone. That does not mean that it is easy for me to forgive. I may even resist forgiving. But the possibility is al-ways there. The hurt may be so deep that it could take the rest of my life to do so. It is also important to note that forgiveness is a per-sonal act that does not depend on anyone else. In fact, the person I chose to forgive may continue to be cruel, thoughtless, and harbor ill feelings towards me. Ultimately, forgiveness is a spiritual act where I depend and rely on God’s grace to forgive. Forgiveness is an ongoing act of my heart and soul. It is an overall attitude toward others and life itself. If I am judgmental and bitter, forgiveness will be diffi-cult. If I hope to forgive specific wrongs committed against me, then I need to begin this very day to look at others with compassion, to be slow to place blame, and to resist revenge. And I can practice for-giveness without anyone else knowing what is hap-pening inside me. I may be terribly hurt at something another person said, and I know that before I con-front that person in any way, I need to choose for-giveness. I might work on forgiveness in my prayer, with a counselor or spiritual director. Other times, I might go through a private process, realizing that the wrong wasn’t as blatant or as intentional as I first

“If your brother sins against you, go and tell I, his fault

between you and him alone.”

It's one of the greatest gifts you can give to yourself, to forgive.

Forgive everybody. —Maya Angelou—

AMAZING ALUMNI Highlighting Graduates from St. Peter the Apostle Catho-lic School

Trevor Salyers attended St. Peter the Apostle Catholic School from kindergarten through eighth grade and graduated in 2007. During his four years at Fallbrook High he played basketball and football and was captain of the football team in

his senior year. He then attended the University of Mas-sachusetts: Amherst where he received the Chancellor’s Scholarship and majored in Sport Management. He worked all four years for the football program at UMass and simultaneously completed two internships in the NBA: one with the LA Clippers and the other with the Boston Celtics. He was a Dean’s list recipient at UMass and earned his Bachelors of Science in Sport Manage-ment. Trevor is currently the Account Manager, Member-ship Services for the Sacramento Kings. When asked what he remembers most about St. Peter the Apostle Catholic School he tells us it is how close he became with everyone there, and still keeps in touch with many of his classmates from our school. He claims that our parish school taught him discipline with regard to homework and made the workload in high school very manageable. Trevor says that St. Peter’s taught him the value of strong, meaningful relationships, and led to some of the strongest relationships in his life. Our school gave him a strong faith foundation that has enabled him to stay in touch with the Lord and his faith. His advice to current students at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic School is, “Enjoy your time there and count your blessings. Although the grass may seem greener else-where, you have it much better than most students your age. Listen to your teachers and value your friendships.”
