The Memo
June 16 - 17, 2018
Thank you for the AWESOME attendance at our
Feast Day celebration on June 8!
Special thanks to the Knights of Columbus,
Altar Society, and Boy Scouts who assisted
with the events!
2 Bulletin Announcements are due by Noon, Monday to appear in next week’s bulletin. Thank you!
If you had to choose one food that you would have to eat for every meal for the rest of your life, what
would it be? It doesn’t take long to grow tired of eating the same thing all the time. If we never have
variety in what we eat, we may even grow to hate what we once thought to be so wonderful. The way our
faith guides our daily lives is very much the same; if it is just for church on Sundays, it doesn’t take long for
us to find other things we would rather do. Over time, our faith can grow stale.
Perhaps one of the reasons so many reject religion or those who publicly proclaim their faith is because they don’t see how the
beauty of the freedom that true faith in Christ brings can flavor their lives. Instead, it is as though their daily diet revolves around the
same emotional responses, until their lives have lost the flavor of wonder and awe that could guide them to true happiness, peace,
and joy.
Jesus teaches us how to live an active faith that fills our lives with goodness after goodness as we grow in virtue and love. It draws
us out of a world of black-and-white reruns and into a world of high-definition color that is so vibrant that we cannot help but see the beauty and glory of God in everything we see, and the light of his Truth illumines the
pathway to peace.
Travis Mecum, seminarian

We all bear responsibility to ensure children are safe and
unharmed in homes, schools, churches, on playgrounds or at the
mall - wherever children are.
We encourage all parishioners to attend this one time training
session, Protecting God’s Children. If you are a volunteer in
any capacity, you are required to complete Virtus training prior to working with children. The
training makes participants aware of the signs of child abuse, the methods and means by which
offenders commit abuse, and five easy steps one can use to prevent abuse.
Upcoming training dates at Sacred Heart are:
Thursday, August 23, 6:30 - 9:30 p.m.
* or *
Saturday, September 8, 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
Please preregister online at www.virtusonline.org.
Upon registering, you will complete the required paperwork and background check.
Call the parish office if you need assistance with registration or have questions.
If you had to describe yourself in five words what would they be?
Travis Mecum, our seminarian with us this summer, will be presenting a series designed to help you describe your true
spiritual identity, how God sees you as you are.
Please join him on Mondays starting June 18th at 6:30 p.m. in the parish
office conference room. The series will meet for 4 weeks.
Topics that Travis will cover: 1. What is a Spiritual Identity? What is Your Spiritual Identity? 2. Christ's Identity in Us. 3. Exploring Emotions within Our Spiritual Identity. 4. Praying to God vs. Praying to the Idea of God.
God and Father of all creation, we come before you today
with humble hearts. You are our model of a loving father.
When we fail and fall short of your expectations, you are
always there at the end of the day with open arms, ready
to heal the cuts and scrapes of the day and to encourage
us to try again and not to give up.
We hold up these men in our midst who act in the world
as fathers to their children or models of fathers for others.
Bless them in their moments of doubt and frustration with their children. Give them warm and
open hearts to forgive failures. Provide them with the words needed for encouragement and
perseverance. We ask all this in the name of Jesus. Amen.
Newly registered parishioners since January 2018 are invited
to a small gathering with
food and fellowship on Thursday, June 21
at 6 p.m. at the rectory.
RSVP to Staci at [email protected].
